Instructional
System Design
• ISD requires defining what is to be learned,
planning an intervention that will allow
learning to occur, measuring learning to
determine if objectives were met and refining
the intervention until objectives are met.
ADDIE
• An organized procedure for developing instruction
that includes:
Analyze Designing Develop Implement Evaluation
• Most of the ID models are based on the ADDIE
model.
Seels and
Glasgow Model• Barbara Seels and Zita Glasgow
• Developed in 1990, presented in 1997 and published in
1998.
• Product-Oriented ID Model
• Design happens in a context of “project management”
• Divided into three distinct stages:
1. Analysis Management
2. Instructional Design Management
3. Implementation and Evaluation Management
Instructional design
Need analysis Implementation
evaluation
Stage 1: Analysis
• Involves designer finding solution using needs
analysis.
• Issues addressed: needs assessment,
performance analysis and context analysis.
Stage 2: Design, Development
and Formative Evaluation
• Includes all steps involved in the design,
development and formative evaluation of the
course.
• Done in order, but can be returned to again.
Stage 3: Implementation
& Maintenance
• Involves real life settings
• Preparation of training material and programs are being done
• Instruction is evaluated
• Project disseminated, ideas are diffused
• Instructors and learners need to learn new technology
p/s: Once the stages are completed, a summative evaluation is to be
conducted. Each stage can then be repeated.
What makes Seels & Glasgow
model
• Itbis edetstigenerr-ftrhienadnly! other models?
• For novice designers:
Model provides an easier way of breaking down the
processes (has more specific steps than the general
ADDIE model), which can be followed by asking the right
questions.
• For advanced designers:
Can be developed in a non-linear manner, no need to
complete a certain step before moving on to the next.
Conclusion
“It is not necessary to complete a step before
proceed and the order can be changed so that
steps can be performed simultaneously. “
