Battles of Shadows

I thrashed around violently as security guards

pulled and tugged on my limbs. They tossed me
into what I assumed was a laboratory. A
balding man with a large coat sauntered over
and raised a needle. The needle was injected
into my neck as I flinched and fell unconscious.
I awoke with a strange feeling in my arms, only
to discover that my limbs and torso were
replaced with robo?c parts that then faded into
my usual limbs and such.



I suddenly felt like a bi@er taste erup?ng from my throat. My body
felt as if it were on fire. Next thing you know, I was spewing up
some smoky substance. I felt disgusted and horrified as I rushed
to get up. Suddenly, I ran out the room, feeling as if I needed to do
something with a situa?on, like a hero. I didn’t know where I was
going, but I did know that I was running to a dense, humid forest.
From afar, I could make out two people and one appeared to be
stealing the other’s belongings. I snapped into ac?on as puffs of
smoke emi@ed from parts of my body like an ins?nct whilst a metal
robo?c suit engulfed me. ”What do you think you’re doing?!”, I
called out to the man stealing the woman’s purse.

I t was a couple years later aMer I had discovered my powers. Bored, I called up

a friend of mine to come over. AMer a while, I was alerted that my friend had
arrived. I stretched and got up to open the door. “Hey!”, Exclaimed my friend
as I side-stepped so they can come in. “So, what’d you wanna do?”, He
ques?oned. “I dunno, just chill.” I stated bluntly. We plopped down and
switched on a movie. A scene in which involved a robbery appeared and my
friend visibly tensed. “What’s wrong?” I asked, clearly concerned. “Kush, I have
something to tell you,” he paused. “I know your secret. From the suit, smoke,
everything.”. “Oh. Well, I was going to tell you- I swear! But I was to scared.” I
hesitated before con?nuing, “Do you, um, know how I got them?” I wondered.
“No, but I’d like to hear.” He prodded. “Well, you know those 2 months I
‘disappeared’? Yeah. I was taken by the government to do an experiment but
escaped unknowingly. The smoke and suit only appears when someone is
someone is robbed or worse… and that’s what I felt the urge to do when I
woke up.” I explained.

there needs
my help!!

AM er confron?ng my friend, he ques?oned if it was possible to transfer the

powers into him. I hesitated before nodding my head slowly and ques?oningly.
“How though?” he interrogated. “Well, it would include me having to touch you
while you are distracted. This is because your brain waves will be relaxed rather
than worrying about anything else so that my powers can focus on going
through your veins. ” I described. “Perhaps we could make an a@empt at it.” he
suggested. His phone buzzed with a text from his mother. Stay at your friends,
I’m not going to be home and the house is locked with your key inside since you
forgot it, the screen flashed. “Wanna try the powers?” “Yeah, sure.” I agreed. A
couple of minutes, I had my friend distracted with a show and moved into
ac?on. I lightly pressed my fingers over his temple so that he can fall
unconscious while the powers worked through him.

I hope I’m

My name is Celeste Kong and I enjoy drawing,
sketching, and anything that includes art. I’m an

honors student and I attend the middle school, M.D.
Roberts. At the school, I find math as my strongest,

and favorite subject.
