A Message From The Chairman

Welcome to Midsomer Norton Illuminated Carnival, its created by local
community volunteers, of all ages and from all sorts of backgrounds, we’ve
united to bring you a spectacular illuminated show to entertain our community
and to raise money for charity.

The Carnival Associaons dedicated team have been working for a whole year
on this year’s grand illuminated procession and as the Chairman I’m exceponal
proud of what they have achieved, it’s not an easy task and like you, I’d like to
thank them all for everything they have done to make it happen.

Our Illuminated carnival is indeed a very special event, its shrouded in history
and so much a part of growing up in Somerset. I can remember be a young
child and braving the cold weather to watch Midsomer Norton Carnival with my
family, a tradion today that I’m sure many of you will also remember fondly
and perhaps you’re now aending with your own children.

Of course Carnival isn’t really about all the brightly lit carts, it’s about coming
together as a family and as a community to enjoy me together to light up a
dark winters night in November.

You can help us to keep the wonderful tradion alive for future generaons, it’s
really simple, you can donate during the procession or online but if you really
want to get involved, come and join us, we’ve got
plenty to keep you occupied and you’ll meet
loads of fascinang people and do some
interesng things along the way.

Have a great night!

A Message From The Town Mayor

As this year’s Town Mayor it gives me great pleasure to exercise the privilege
of welcoming everyone to the 2019 Midsomer Norton Carnival. The crowds
which flocked to see the Carnival Procession as soon as it was revived (and in
spite of driving rain!) proved how fondly people remember and embrace the
Carnival tradion in our part of the country.

And what a tradion it is. It is a feast of light defying the darkness of winter. It
celebrates and showcases our human creavity and ingenuity; all those floats
being carefully prepared over the months before, the dance steps choreo-
graphed and rehearsed, the route planned and tested. It takes an old Somer-
set tradion and shows its relevance to our modern world, where the tempta-
on to be passive in front of a screen is all too real.

And even when the weather is unkind, it demonstrates the determinaon and
resilience of young people who dance in the cold and rain, and the stoicism of
the audience who stay to watch them. Let’s hope the weather isn’t so unkind
as recent years – but even if it is, let’s enjoy the spectacle and support the
Carnival charies.

Yours sincerely

Cllr Michael Evans
Mayor of Midsomer Norton

Light Up Carnival Toys

Make Your Purchase Count – Ensure Your Money Goes To Charity

In recent years there has been an explosion in the numbers of pedlars descending on
Somerset towns during carnival season, some even sporng fake Official Seller uniforms, these
traders have brought very lile benefit for organising commiees or clubs who voluntarily put in
hours of work to put the show on the road.
These pedlars seldom contribute anything towards the running costs of the fesvies and
Carnival organisers have serious concerns that the public mistakenly assume that they are

supporng Carnival through their purchases from these traders, which is NOT the case.

As part of a Carnival Consorum of 14 towns we will be selling our own light-up toys, all CE
marked. Products offered for sale by the Official Carnival Sellers will include flashing wands,
batons and windmills, whistles and many other items which children love at carnivals, prices will
range from £2 and £4.
Please only buy goods only these recognised and authorised sellers, with all profits being
ploughed back into Carnival.

THIS YEAR OUR ADVANCE SELLERS,
WHO WILL SHARE IN THE PROFITS ARE:

Royal Family

A very big thank you to everyone
who took part in the Carnival
Royalty compeon; we really do
appreciate your support.

As far as we are concerned every-
one of you is a winner and if we had
room in our coach you would all be
riding in the procession.

However, as we cannot accommo-
date everyone, our Royal party for
this year are:

Carnival Queen (back le) Skyla Hagen
Carnival King (back right) Toby Wya
Carnival Prince (front le) Jack Wya
Carnival Princess (front right) Leia Wilson

You may be thinking that you recognise the Carnival King and Prince; and you’d
be right! Unfortunately, those who had entered these categories failed to turn
up! Thankfully, both Toby and Jack were more than happy to reign for another
year.

Could You Be One Of Our Royals
Next Year?
