A MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD COACH

AFTER AN INCREDIBLE SEASON WHERE WE WENT 18-2, WINNING OUR STRIKE OUT COLON
CANCER TOURNAMENT AS WELL AS THE CHRISTIE SERINO MEMORIAL TOURNAMENT
AND GOING TO THE CITY FINALS, THIS YEAR WILL BE QUITE DIFFERENT. We lost 12
seniors but still have a good young core of players. Our team will be led by returning players
Alexis Amparo, Jonathan Pimentel, Joshua Rivera and Euddy Brito, as well as a mix of new
and younger players. We are looking forward to another successful season and our goals are still to win the City
Championship and qualify for the state tournament.

Jeff Arinella // VARSITY HEAD COACH

I was born and raised in East Boston. I graduated from Boston Latin School, then
went to Wheaton College and finally acquired my Master’s in Education from
American International College. This will be my 10th year not only teaching at East
Boston HS but also coaching baseball. I started as an assistant coach at Newton
South High School for a few years. I then started coaching the JV team here at East
Boston High, and after a couple of years, I became an assistant coach for Varsity.
Last year was my first year as the head coach of Varsity Baseball.

Myles Layne // JUNIOR VARSITY HEAD COACH

Coach Layne was born and raised in Dorchester Massachusetts. After graduating
from East Boston High School in 2011, Coach Layne received a degree in Business
management from Miles College located in Birmingham Alabama.

After college Coach Layne worked for a large nonprofit organization helping better
the lives of youth throughout the city of Boston. Coach Layne is currently a substitute
teacher and is in the process of becoming a full-time business teacher.

During time not coaching the Jets, Coach Layne enjoys coaching younger kids
through the city of Boston, playing basketball and baseball, and spending time with
family and friends.

A MESSAGE FROM THE VARSITY HEAD COACH

THE 2018 SEASON SHOULD BE EXCITING, STARTING WITH OUR NEW UNIFORMS! Seniors Kayla
Elliott and Juliana Vasquez will lead a squad of Lady Jets made up mostly of sophomores and juniors
in quest to regain the City North Championship! Go Jets!!!

A MESSAGE FROM THE JV HEAD COACH

THE LADY JETS JV SQUAD IS LOOKING TO IMPROVE UPON THEIR SUCCESS LAST YEAR.
With games scheduled against tough City League opponents such as Latin Academy, Brighton,
and O’Bryant, this season will be a challenge that we are ready to take on.
This year, we will also be playing against multiple strong non-league teams including Brookline, Randolph, and
Lynnfield. As multiple talented JV players got called up to varsity at the end of last year, we are looking to round out
our roster with a solid group of sophomores and freshmen.

Matt Sances // VARSITY HEAD COACH

Coach Matt Sances is a proud BPS graduate, teacher, and soon to be parent! Mr.
Sances has been a history teacher at Eastie since 2013. Prior to working at East
Boston High School, Coach Sances taught middle school in South Boston and
Chelsea, and was the varsity baseball coach at Charlestown High for two seasons.

Coach Sances is the parent to two daughters, Shannon (4) and Abaigeal (4 months),
husband to Kate, and enjoys golf, cooking, traveling, and spending time with family.

Amanda Abromson // JV HEAD COACH

Coach Abromson was born and raised in Braintree, Mass. After graduating from
Braintree High School in 2011 where she played 4 years of varsity ice hockey and
softball, she continued on to UMass Amherst, where she played Div. 1 ACHA ice
hockey. She was also selected to play hockey for the United States National University
team and played overseas in the Winter World University Games (Trentino, Italy 2013
and Granada, Spain 2015), winning the bronze in 2013.

Coach Abromson earned her Bachelor’s degree in Sport Management from UMass and
has worked in the BSA Zone since graduating in 2015. She is currently pursuing her
Master of Education in School Counseling at UMass Boston. This is her third season as
the JV coach for EBHS Softball. When not coaching, Coach Abromson enjoys traveling
and spending time with her family.

A MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD COACH

AS COACH PARZIALE BEGINS HIS 23RD SEASON, THE JETS HOPE TO DEFEND THE CITY
CHAMPIONSHIP ON THE BOYS SIDE. They were a perfect 6 wins and 0 losses. The girls also had a
great year with 5 wins 1 loss. Both teams should be in the hunt this year for City Titles.

John Parziale // SPRING TRACK COACH

John Parziale graduated from Malden Catholic High School and Merrimack College.
He received his Master’s Degree in Special Education from Salem State University
several years later.

His first coaching job was at Winthrop Middle School. They won a couple N.E.C.
championships. He then took over the East Boston Outdoor Track program in 1996.
They have had numerous undefeated seasons on both the boys and girls side. They
have won many North League and City Titles. Assistant Coach Jocelyn Kane has
been a great addition to the program working with the distance runners.

2018 SEASON PREVIEW & COACHING STAFF & SCHEDULE

A MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD COACH

THE EAST BOSTON HIGH SCHOOL SAILING TEAM PRACTICES AND COMPETES ON THE
BOSTON HARBOR, OUT OF PIERS PARK SAILING CENTER IN EAST BOSTON. They will be
racing a range of small performance sailboats, no larger than 14ft, and each meant to be
operated in 2-person teams. With support from My Brother’s Keeper Boston and Piers Park
Sailing Center, the team will be equipped with performance dry suits and raise brand new
sails to represent East Boston with pride as one of the only Boston Public Schools in the sport.

Jasmine Nijjar // HEAD COACH

Jasmine was born and raised in East Boston. In 2012 she started attending East
Boston High School where she participated in girls’ soccer and swimming. After
graduating in 2016 she went on to study Biology at Suffolk University. Jasmine
started sailing at the age of 8 through Piers Park Sailing Center summer youth
program. She developed her sailing skills and knowledge of marine ecology over
several summers and began to mentor others through the program. Jasmine
has since honed her sailing and teaching skills further, and now leads the East
Boston High School Sailing Team into their first competitive season against other
Massachusetts based schools.

Daniel Moreno // ASSISTANT COACH

Daniel has been a resident of East Boston for over 20 years, with 15 years of
experience in sailing. Daniel was introduced to sailing and the Boston Harbor
through Piers Park Sailing Center’s programs in his childhood. He has refined
his skills serving as crew on ships on the harbor and racing competitively in local
regattas. Daniel will work closely with Head Coach, Jasmine Nijjar, to train the East
Boston High School Sailing team as they prepare for their first competitive season
in the Massachusetts Bay League.
