PLANS FOR 2019/2020

Heads of four Egyptian oil companies have announced
their investment plans for the fiscal year 2019/2020 which
begins on 1 June 2019.
This came during a meeting of the companies’ general
assemblies on 1 January, which was attended by Minister
of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek El-Molla and
Minister of Local Development Mahmoud Shaarawy.
The four companies presented their plans as follows:
■ Ebrahim Hossny

1. Cairo Oil Refining Company

Chairman of the Cairo Oil Refining Company, Gaber
Hassan, said his company has an ambitious plan to
reduce costs and preserve the environment through the
implementation of a number of projects. These mainly
include a project to recover butane gas and reuse it
as fuel for boilers and furnaces, which helps reduce
emissions and preserve the environment, he said.
There is another project to construct cooling towers for
refrigerant and condensate water at the Mostorod and
Tanta refineries to be reused as a closed circuit, Hassan
added.
He noted that the company plans to refine 7.8 million
tons of oil at Mostorod and Tanta refineries, including
750,000 tons belonging to the Egyptian Refining
Company.
It also plans to produce 82,000 tons of butane gas,
183,000 tons of naphtha, around 1.2 million tons of
various types of benzene, 50,000 tons of kerosene,
520,000 tons of jet fuel (aviation turbine fuel), 1.2 million
tons of diesel, 3.6 million tons of mazut, and 20,000 tons
of aromatic solvents, he said.
The company plans to continue local manufacturing
work worth more than EGP140 million for the benefit of
the oil and gas sector’s firms, Hassan stated.

2019/20 to cover local market’s demands, said head of
the company Adel el-Shuwaikh.
The company plans to keep, develop and increase the
efficiency of productive assets, in addition to conducting
rehabilitation and renewal processes on the equipment
of the health, safety and environment system, he added.

MOLLA REVEALS 2019
STRATEGY: 15

DEVELOPMENT OF

REFINING

LABORATORIES

■ Basil Atef

Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek
el-Molla has said that the oil sector’s 2019 strategy
aims to achieve comprehensive development of the
refining laboratories via new refining projects and
expansions currently being implemented.
The strategy aims to develop the existing production
units to increase their efficiency and output capacity,
he noted.
It also aims to develop the industrial safety and
security systems in order to increase the performance
rates in refining laboratories and maximize their
strategic role in securing the country’s needs of fuel
supplies, the minister said.
These remarks came during a meeting held in early
January by the general assemblies of the public

likely to be ready to ship gas in the early 2020s if
approved.
Increasing demand
Huge increases in China’s demand growth as part of
a programme to shift households and factories from
coal to gas, increased LNG import dependency in
Europe, and a backlash against dirtier coal is driving
optimism in the industry.
LNG supply will already grow by an estimated record
40 million tons, or 13%, this year, potentially putting
pressure on Asian LNG prices, currently around $9
per million British thermal units.
In terms of demand, China continues to post strong
growth while Europe could also see increases after
years of stagnation, growing by about 20 million tons
and playing a key role in absorbing new American
supply, Siau said.

INVESTMENTS

The Chinese company “Chint” has celebrated the 40th anniversary of its foundation. The
celebration, held in the industrial complex of the 6th of October City, was attended by its
Egyptian partner “Egemac”.
The POWER MAGAZINE was there at the ceremony where awards were distributed to the most
productive workers.
Chint’s General Manager, Dr. Tao, stepped onto a stage to answer questions raised by the
company’s workers and employees. It was an interactive Q&A session.
As soon as the young manager left the stage, we approached him and conducted the following
interview with him:
