Bakalova, 29, playsAbby, a woman grieving herfather (David Strathairn) whobuys Sam's (Pally) simulation ofhim. In a recent Zoom interview,Bakalova said even if AI couldaccurately simulate a loved one,she could tell the difference. Infact, the film backs her up asAbby corrects the AI father, thustraining it after her purchase.\"I myself correct him, 'That's notthe way it should be saying[things],' basically educating himhow to be the better version ofmy pretended person,\" Bakalovasaid. \"I don't think it's going to beable to get to an unrecognizablepoint.\"Bakalova added that humanswould always have theirauthentic memories to compareto the simulation. Pally, 44,agrees that interaction betweentwo humans cannot bereproduced no matter how muchdata the AI scrapes.\"I think that every interaction isspecific in its own alchemybecause there's two sides of it,\"Pally said. \"Even if it's anamalgamation of differentinteractions put into a computergone through really quickly andit spits out the one interaction, it'sstill not authentic.\"Strathairn, 77, said he did notchange his performance betweenflashbacks of his living characterand his portrayal of thesimulation. Though he agreeswith his co-stars, Strathairn alsoworries that AI will try harder toconvince people.\"If we can't tell the difference, Ithink we're in for some reallyweird times,\" Strathairn said. \"Itis a little anxious making.\"Sam sells Abby on the emotionalreconnection with her father.Pally believes his character'smotivations are not so pure.\"Once you buy the app, I couldcare less how you use it,\" Pallysaid. \"I'm proud of thetechnological advances that I'vemade and then also am a whiterabbit businessman at heart.\"The first time Abby speaks to hersimulated father, Bakalova letsloose an emotional outpouring. She said she used her own humanconnections to generate thatperformance.\"My whole life, I've tried to getin characters in a little bit of adifferent way and to not comefrom my own experiences,\" shesaid. \"With this one, I did theopposite because I feelpersonally connected to it.\"Bakalova said she lost \"one ofmy closest people on this planet\"12 years ago, and the loss stillfeels fresh. She also saidwatching the film gave herunique insight into what her owngrief looks like.\"You never will get a mirror andpoint it at your face so you don'treally know how you look,\" shesaid. \"You might think that youwill scream. You might not beable to make a single sound in asituation like this. So it's been aninteresting exploration ofhonesty.\"Though Abby knows thedifference between the app andher father, Bakalova adds thatusing a simulation can aid inprocessing grief \"if you do itcautiously, if you do it with apurpose, if you know when andhow to stop. Maybe because ofthat, you need people around youas well so you're not alone in this,so you don't become delusional.\"Strathairn believes his characterwould also welcome the abilityto continue being a presence inAbby's life.\"It's great that I can talk backdown to my daughter and catchevery day what she's doing,\"Strathairn said. \"In a way, I havethe opportunity to continue to beher friend, her dad, her pal everyday and help her navigate whatshe's going through until she'sable to really hold it herself.\"Pally isn't so sure that is aproductive coping mechanism.\"It feels like prolonging somekind of inevitable because assoon as the wifi goes out, yourdad's going to die every time,\"Pally said.O Horizon opens in Los AngelesJune 19.By Karen ButlerBulgarian actress Maria Bakalova made her USbreakthrough in 2020’s “Borat SubsequentMoviefilm” as the daughter of the title character. She now stars in the AI-thriller O HorizonFYIMaria BakalovaBornMaria Valcheva BakalovaJune 4, 1996 (age 30)Burgas, BulgariaBakalova began taking singing lessonsand playing the flute around age six, andsang in a choir that toured across Europe.Bakalova enrolled in acting classes at theage of 12, majoring in drama theater andminoring in flute at the National Schoolof Music and Stage Arts in Burgas, whereshe was a straight A student.Bakalova later moved to Sofia where shemajored in drama at the NationalAcademy for Theatre and Film Arts. www.hap2it.com June 18, 2026 HAPPENINGS Page 7Helsinki – Europe’s youngest andnorthernmost capital city – feelslike an outpost of Europe. While itlacks the cutesy cobbles ofCopenhagen, the regal setting ofStockholm, or the futuristic vibeof Oslo, Helsinki holds its ownamong Nordic capitals with itscreative spirit, zest for architectureand design, and steamy love ofsaunas.Perhaps the best way tounderstand Helsinki’s origins is totake the short ferry ride across theharbor to the island-fortress ofSuomenlinna (now a popularpark). Little Finland was longcaught up in the superpower chessmoves of its big neighbors,Sweden and Russia. The Swedesdominated the country frommedieval times until 1809, whenthey lost it to the Russians, whoheld it until 1917.The Swedes built Suomenlinna inthe mid-1700s to counter Russia’srising power. Peter the Great hadjust created his new capital nearby,at St. Petersburg, and he waseyeing the West. With five milesof walls and hundreds of cannonsguarding the harbor, Suomenlinnasquelched the Russian threat (atleast for the time being). With allthat activity, small-time Helsinkitook off, becoming a boomtown insupport of the grand strategic fort.Helsinki is buffered by more than300 islands, and its harbor isalways busy. Frequent passengerferries cross the Baltic Sea fromStockholm and Tallinn. The arrivalof cruise ships – gliding throughtight passages between thesurrounding islands – energizesthe city each day. Mighty icebreakers moored in their summerslumber are the only reminder ofthe bitter Baltic winters.Almost everything worth seeing iswalkable from the harbor. Mostvisitors head directly to Helsinki’sfun harbor square, calledKauppatori. This colorful outdoorfood bazaar is the place in townfor a casual, quick-and-cheaplunch (moose meatballs are afavorite). Everyone from theFinnish president to visitingtourists stops by for a dash of localflavor.Daily bus tours depart from thedocks for a rapid-fire overview ofFinnish history and a quick look atthe top monuments and churches.Or you can stretch your legs alongHelsinki’s grand boulevard, theEsplanade, leading from the waterinto town. With wide sidewalksand a friendly park sandwiched inthe middle, this is the city’s beststroll for window shopping, people watching, and sunworshiping. Then delve into the boutiques ofthe Design District for some ofEurope’s most eye-pleasingfashion and home decor. Asurprising number of global trends– from Marimekko’s patternedfabrics to Nokia’s pioneeringmobile phones to the Angry Birdsgaming empire – have been bornright here in design-consciousHelsinki. (The local DesignMuseum displays theseinnovations and more.)Helsinki is famous for its 20thcentury architecture, from itscentral train station (an ArtNouveau masterpiece by ElielSaarinen) to the modernistsimplicity of the Finlandia concerthall by Alvar Aalto. The city alsoboasts beautiful and diversechurches: the gleaming whiteHelsinki Cathedral, a LutheranNeoclassical gem; the red-brickRussian Orthodox Cathedral, areminder of Russia’s longdominance here; and theunderground TemppeliaukioChurch, blasted out of solidgranite and capped by a copperand glass dome. There’s also the little KamppiChapel. Sitting unassumingly on acity plaza, the spruce structureencloses a windowless cylinder ofsilence. Inside, indirect lightbathes the alder-wood paneling inwarmth and tranquility. Does itresemble Noah’s Ark? The insideof an egg? Although it’s a church, there are no services; it’s open toanyone needing a reflective pause.Overall, I find Finns to be prettyquiet and contemplative. I oncewandered into a flea market inHelsinki, closed my eyes, andlistened to the soundtrack of 300Finns. It was almost silent – Icould have been in a mountainmeadow. So, I was surprised todiscover the Finnish love affairwith lotteries and gambling. Slotmachines and games of chance areeverywhere in Helsinki, includingrestaurants, supermarkets, andtrain stations, manned by Finnseagerly stuffing in coins.A more traditional touchstone ofFinnish culture is the sauna. Thesedays, with so many Finns affluentenough to have saunas in theirhomes (5.6 million Finns haveroughly 3.3 million saunas), publicsaunas are becoming less frequent, and many working-class spotshave gone upscale. The chic Löylycomplex is typical of the newtrend, with its saunas finelycrafted from warm woods, arestaurant serving fashionableNordic cuisine, and a seasideterrace for lounging.Helsinki seems designed topromote a sense of community, and when the weather warms, everyone takes full advantage. Thecity blooms with bikers, picnickers, runners, and walkers, and cafés push their tables out tothe sidewalk. Café Kappeli, an OldWorld oasis of pastry andrelaxation, sits proudly at theharbor’s edge. It’s the perfect spotto sip a coffee while waiting foryour ship, already savoring yourHelsinki memories.By Rick StevesHelsinkihighlightstravel Travel_9x.qxp_TRAVEL KEN 6/16/26 10:51 AM Page 1

CALL 988Weight Up, Cognition DownCognitive decline with age is anormal process. Our brains simplydon't function as effectively asthey did in our youth. But inotherwise normal healthy adults, the changes are gradual and subtle. The best way to slow cognitivedecline is to adhere to a few basicbehaviors: Get plenty of sleep.Handle stress. Interact socially.Learn new things. Exercise. Eatwell.A new study out of the Universityof Georgia underscores theimportance of those last two items.Researchers followed more than8,200 people over the age of 50 for24 years. They found that for everyunit increase in body mass index, there was a more rapid decline inbrain health.BMI is a screening tool thatestimates total body fat based onthe ratio of your height to yourweight. You can easily find BMIcalculators online. The researchers found that higherBMI over time led to more rapiddeclines in cognitive functions, memory and executive functioning— managing emotions, organizingand planning tasks, concentratingand more — than what is typicallyseen in aging adults. The good news: They also foundthat people who managed theirweight could significantly lowertheir rate of cognitive decline injust two years.Body of KnowledgeThe average person shedsapproximately 121 pints of tears ina lifetime or in one Lifetimemovie. It comes asno surprise, then, that people wantto stay in their home for as long aspossible. While it isn’t alwayspossible with advancing age, it isdoable for many. If you or a lovedone is starting to experiencetroubles maintaining theirindependence at home, try thesestrategies.Adapt the homeThe smallest of changes can makea big impact on a senior’s life andallow them to live safely at homefor a longer period of time. Take alook around the home. Where arethe trouble spots? Are there rugsthat need to be tacked down toreduce the risk of tripping? Arethere rooms where furniture needsto be removed to permit easiermovement? Are there placeswhere handrails would come inhandy, like in the bathroom tomake getting in and out of the tubeasier? There are a lot of adaptiveproducts on the market. Use them.Improve securityInstall a security system as well asa medical alert system in thehome. This will provide peace ofmind and allow the senior to seekhelp when in need. Should thesenior fall, they can call for help atthe touch of a button on a medicalalert bracelet or necklace. Forseniors who have troubleremembering to take theirmedication, personal medicationsystems are available. These willremind seniors to take theirmedication when needed and letthe designated contact knowwhether the medication was taken.Seek helpMany seniors are eligible forservices outside of the home. Takeadvantage of these, whether thedelivery of hot meals, transportation or cleaningservices, or home health care. Themore help provided, the longer thesenior can reside comfortably intheir home. For seniors ineligiblefor such services, friends andfamily can come in handy, whether taking turns cleaning, cooking or checking in from timeto time with the senior. While sometimes necessary, assisted living centers and nursinghomes can be expensive. Do yourbest to keep expenses down bytaking the steps necessary to helpyourself or the senior in your lifestay at home as long as possible.Try the strategies above, speak toa doctor and do what you can tokeep the senior independent for aslong as possible.By Tresa EricksonStay Independent LongerFamily Caregiver Support Group Meets inperson and virtuallyFamily caregivers often don’t seethemselves as caregivers, theysimply think of themselves as thehusband, sister, daughter, or friend.Defined, a family caregiver is aperson who provides support for anadult who needs assistance withdaily living activities, such ascooking, driving, shopping, laundry and paying bills. Page 26 HAPPENINGS June 18, 2026 www.hap2it.comI have seen several news storiesrecently that were critical of theSocial Security Administrationand the way the agency handlesoverpayments -- money sent toSocial Security beneficiaries thatthey were not due. I'm going toaddress that issue in today'scolumn. But before I do, I've got toput things in perspective. If you had read any of these newsreports, you likely would comeaway thinking something like this.\"Those dumb bureaucrats. Theycan't do anything right. They aresending millions of dollars inincorrect payments to peopleevery year!\" But here is a dose ofperspective you need tounderstand. Social Security is a$1.6 trillion per year program. Andthose millions of dollars inoverpayments make up less thanone-half of 1% of the program'sannual payout. Or to turn thataround, more than 99.5% of thetime, people are being paidcorrectly. So overpayments are aproblem. But nowhere near as biga problem as sensational newsstories would have you believe.Still, millions of dollars is millionsof dollars. And the Social Securityoverpayment problem is an issuethat needs to be dealt with. Whydo people get overpaid? Thebiggest reason has to do with asimple law that needs to bechanged. More about that in aminute. But first, let's briefly deal with oneof the issues discussed in the newsstories. Once it's been decided thatsomeone has been overpaid, should the SSA take the moneyback? Some have alleged that theSSA was being too ruthless in itsoverpayment collection efforts. In a nutshell, one part of theoverpayment recovery rules saysthe incorrect benefits must berepaid if the person who got theextra money was at fault incausing the overpayment. Mostpeople probably would agree thatpart of the rules makes sense. Butwhat if the overpayment was theagency's fault? On the one hand, you could argue that even thoughthe SSA made a mistake, theoverpaid person still got money heor she was not due and the moneyshould be repaid. But others wouldargue that the government screwedup and they should write off theoverpayment as a loss. Therulebook actually says that even ifthe overpayment was the SSA'sfault, it must be repaid IF theoverpaid person can afford torepay it. And carrying out that rulecan really get messy and besubject to different interpretations. And on that issue, let me make thispoint. Many years ago, the SSAinterpreted that part of the lawmuch more liberally and waswriting off (\"waiving\" is the legalterm) many overpayments. Andguess what? There were newsstories back then critical of theagency for \"wasting the taxpayers'money\" by not more aggressivelycollecting overpayments. So youcan understand why an old civilservant like me might be inclinedto throw up his hands and say:\"OK, people, what do you want?Do you want us to collect theseoverpayments or do you want us towrite them off?\"But we wouldn't have to answerthat question if a big part of theproblem could be eliminated. Sohow do we do that? By getting ridof the major cause ofoverpayments: A provision ofSocial Security law that is ratherarchaically called the \"annualearnings test.\" It is sometimes alsocalled the \"retirement test.\" (Moreabout where those terms comefrom in a minute.) But I call it theSocial Security earnings penalty,as I have never liked this law. Before I explain why, let meclarify what I am talking about. The rules say that if you are aSocial Security beneficiary who isunder full retirement age and stillworking, one dollar must bededucted from your SocialSecurity checks for every twodollars you earn over a limit thatchanges annually. It's currently$24,480. (Once you reach yourfull retirement age, that penaltygoes away.) On the surface, the law seemspretty straightforward. You maywonder why it causes so manyoverpayments. Well, it's becausewhen you scratch beneath thesurface, it is an absolute mess toadminister. To illustrate, I'll use anexample. Fred is 63, getting Social Securitybenefits, but takes a part-time jobpaying more than $24,480annually. So he reports hisanticipated earnings to his localSocial Security office. They wouldadjust his benefits accordingly, applying the one-dollar deductionfor every two dollars earned. But then, as the year goes on, Fredends up working a little overtimeor otherwise picking up a coupleof extra hours of work. He woulddutifully report the increase inanticipated earnings to the SocialSecurity people, and furtheradjustments would be made to hismonthly retirement checks. Moreoften than not, he'd be chargedwith an overpayment and be askedto return some of the SocialSecurity funds already paid to him. Next, let's say Fred is laid off for atime, and so his anticipated 2026earnings go down. Then he'd haveto file yet another report with theSSA and there would be moreadjustments to his benefits. Andnow perhaps the SSA owed himsome extra money. Eventually, once the year is overand Fred gets his W-2 form, hewill make a final report of hisearnings to the Social Securityoffice, leading to yet anotherbenefit adjustment -- usuallyanother overpayment. And on topof that, they would ask for anestimate of his anticipatedearnings for the new year, yetmore adjustments would be made, and the whole vicious cycle wouldstart over again. And of course, Fred is not alone.Millions of Social Securitybeneficiaries are under their fullretirement age but working. Andmany of them are going throughthe same cycle of being eitheroverpaid or underpaid.I've always been puzzled by theearnings penalty law. From aphilosophical perspective, I justdon't understand why someoneshould be punished if they try towork and earn a little money tosupplement their Social Securitybenefits. Having voiced that philosophicalconcern, I should point out that Iknow the practicality of the law. Itgoes back to the very beginning ofSocial Security in the 1930s.Retirement benefits were intendedto replace the earnings a personloses when he or she retires. Or toput that another way, a person hadto retire to get \"retirement\"benefits. And this provision of thelaw was a \"test\" of their retirementstatus. (Thus, the term \"retirementtest.\") Initially, the law said you had to becompletely retired. But over theyears, Congress eased up on therestrictive nature of the originallaw. They said people over FRAcould work full-time and getbenefits. But they kept the messyearnings penalty for anyone underFRA. Why? I'm not sure. But getrid of that penalty and you will getrid of many millions of dollars inoverpayments every year. The Real Story Behind Social Security OverpaymentsIf you have a Social Securityquestion, Tom Margenau has twobooks with all the answers. Page 28 HAPPENINGS June 18, 2026 www.hap2it.comIn my time on Earth, I have lostone parent, four grandparents, afew close friends and one child.OK, the last one occurred at Targetand I found her after a fewpanicked runs through the aislesbut it was both sad and traumaticnonetheless.During the other times ofbereavement, I found myselfleaning on the Kubler-Ross model, created in 1969 by SwissAmerican psychologist ElisabethKubler-Ross to help terminally illpatients and their loved onesaccept death. Kubler-Ross breaksthe realization of dying into fivestages:Denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance.I now submit the five stages oneendures when losing the mostimportant thing in our lives. Andno, it’s not our relatives. Somestudies show a quarter of us haveceased contact with some, if notall of them. Search “no contact” ifyou don’t believe me.It’s our phones.Sure, not everyone has lost theirphones. But I submit every phoneowner has misplaced it, oftenmultiple times a day. Our phonesare no longer just a device wecarry; they are removableappendages, capable ofperforming more tasks thananything we were born with. Ourlegs, for example. Legs help usstand and walk but they can’tcontact an Uber for us at 2 a.m.We can misplace our phones inany room where we live. The samecannot be said of, say, a pizzacutter. Also, we don’t take thepizza cutter with us when we leavefor the day.Stage 1: Denial – It’s In MyOTHER PocketMy lost phone saga began when Irented a bicycle outside mycondominium complex, unlockingand paying for it using my iPhoneof course. Fifteen minutes later, upon inserting the bike at adocking station two miles away,my pants pocket failed to vibrate.Fearing I had locked the bikeincorrectly, I reached for myphone to verify I had received an“end ride” text message.Enter Stage One: Denial. So far,Kubler-Ross and I were in sync.Denying you have lost your phonemeans thinking you simply placedit in another pocket, backpackcompartment, whatever. Nevermind that we always carry ourphones in the exact same spotbecause, as previously mentioned, the phone is an appendage. Wedon’t wake up one morning andswitch the locations of our fingers.Ditto for a phone.Stage 2: Anger – ProfanitiesWithin a 50 Yard RadiusIn Kubler-Ross’ grief model, thedenial stage can last weeks or evenmonths before one moves to anger. When losing the phone it takesabout 13 seconds. At least in mycase. Anyone within a 50-yardradius of the docking stationwould have been privy to alengthy stream of profanitiesuttered at increasing volumes.Stage 3: Helplessness –Can’t Venmo Buy Me aDrink?Stage three is where Kubler-Rossand I parted ways. Rather thanbargaining, phone losersexperience helplessness. Call ortext whoever you were supposedto meet and explain yourpredicament? Not gonna happen.Retrace your steps by returning tothe starting point? Good lucksecuring transportation. Go intothe nearest bar and order a shot ofwhiskey to calm your nerves?Let’s hope the bartender acceptssomething other than Apple Cashand Venmo.Stage 4: Survival – What doI have Left?Stage four can best be described as“survival.” Phone losers must takestock of what remains on theirpersons and adapt accordingly. Inmy case, I had my wallet andcredit cards so I could walk to anearby bus stop and pay for a oneway fare back to my condo tobegin the retracing process.Luckily the Chicago TransitAuthority accepts credit cardsbecause my bus pass resides on…you guessed it.I also have the advantage ofowning an Apple Watch, alsoknown as “iPhone Lite.” Unable toperform all of an iPhone’s task, thewatch at least allowed me toaccess the “Find My Devices”app. From there I composed amessage that would appear on theiPhone in the event a strangerpicked it up. Almost laughingly, the app asked what contactnumber I wished to include so thestranger could contact me.Uh, the number associated withthe phone you are now holding?I typed in a friend’s number andtexted her from the watch, lettingher know not to “mark as spam”any text stating a phone had beenfound. She responded withsympathy but added, “I’d be lostwithout my phone.”Oh, just you?Stage 5: A Longing for APrevious CenturyMinutes later, I checked “Find MyDevices” again and received amessage that my phone had notonly been found, but turned in at aT-Mobile store two miles away. Itook the bus to the store and thereit was, safe and still functional.Store personnel would only tell meit was a woman who turned it in.She didn’t leave a name.If that woman reads this column, Ican only say “thank you” from thebottom of my heart. For you savedme from entering Stage Five:A desire to be transported back tothe 1800s.greg schwemSince 2010 Greg Schwem has written the nationallysyndicated Humor Hotel column forTribune Content Agency. Greg has returned to his comedyclub roots, testing material at someof the nation’s mostpopular comedy clubs, includingseveral appearances at the Kenosha Comedy Club I lost my phone and lived to tell:The 5 stages of iPhone griefAn iPhone lost in a SouthCarolina river was foundunderwater 15 months later andstill functions thanks to awaterproof case. Theacademy announced the addition of a best Asian pop music performancecategory — celebrating releases across K-pop, J-pop, C-pop and beyond— awarded to the performer. A new best traditional pop vocalperformance category will be awarded to performers whose music\"cannot properly be intermingled with present forms of pop music,\"according to a press release. Also, a new best Latin song category willrecognize songwriters for their work on Latin songs recordedpredominantly in Spanish. The other changes affect the R&B and folkcategories. A new best R&B collaboration or duo/group performanceaward joins the reimagined best R&B solo performance category. Folkhas experienced a similar change that country experienced lastyear: Best folk album has become best contemporary folk album. A besttraditional folk album category has been added. In addition to the five new categories, changes have been maderegarding the criteria of a few releases. Most noteworthy: alterations tothe best new artist category. The Grammys will now allow artists tosubmit in the category four times, up from three. That is in an attempt tobetter reflect the current music market, where it can take time for anartist to break through. There is no specified maximum number ofprevious releases and a screening committee is tasked with determining\"whether the artist had attained this high degree of impact in the musicindustry prior to the eligibility year,\" according to the rule book. Anartist who has received a Grammy nomination in the past is not eligible. The Grammys add 5 newcategories, changesMusic News.qxp_My Turn 1-2H 6/16/26 2:31 PM Page 1

For you, today could be about making tangible moves that can sweeten your financial future.GEMINI (May 21-June 20): With today’s Sun and Moon hanging out with asteroid Midas, most signs have some kind of financial focus now. Yours relates to how you identify with money and wealth, the degree to which you feel your financial status identifies you.CANCER (June 21-July 22): For you, Cancer, today’s money process is taking stock of your beliefs around abundance and scarcity. Inner beliefs drive outer realities. What are you holding from your past that’s limiting your future?LEO (July 23-Aug. 22): Finances and friendships are the mix for you today. Do you do business with friends? How should boundaries work in dual relationships? One obvious thing is to always vet opportunities thoroughly regardless of where they originate.VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22): Career/workplace is likely your focus today — how you put your energies into the world, how the world compensates you for your contributions. More money could be coming through your pipeline.LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 22): Teach and learn not just about money, but what it represents energetically. Money is fundamentally a means of exchange, but because of its relationship to power, it can corrupt also and morph into endless greed for more.SCORPIO (Oct. 23-Nov. 21): Money can become more complex when resources are shared. Everyone has different thresholds for safety, risk, wealth, scarcity, then egos get involved. Even if everyone is fully in integrity, it can get very complicated.SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21): A business or financial partner should be working harmoniously with you now, interests appear to be well-aligned. When both people share the same objectives and working style, synergy can multiply results.CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19): The costs of daily routines could come up to be examined — how much did that latte cost? It’s not necessarily due to lack, it may just be time for a review. Consider your health hacks too.AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18): You might find a way to monetize something you’d do for free just for the joy of it. When work is also play, it’s not so heavy. When work is a personal joy, it’s not so boring. See if you can connect these dots.PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20): Building a safety net has become nearly impossible for most today, but your foundation can rest on something more powerful than a bank account. Rest your security on the richest, most creative resource of all, the Universe.ACROSS1 Adele’s “Water __ the Bridge”6 Salsa choice10 Covertly include on an email13 “Nope” and “Get Out” director Jordan14 Mountaintop nest15 Sound from a warm tub16 Road division18 Reed of the Velvet Underground19 Like most prime numbers20 Thai neighbor21 Band output23 Task that’s a piece of cake28 Accurate29 Burgundies30 Dough31 Open a tad33 Fundraiser for STEM programs36 Home of Christopher Robin’s friends40 Gp.41 Walkman maker42 Quite a distance43 “Stat!”45 AirPlay tablet46 Japanese dramatic form with elaborate costumes52 Soccer Hall of Famer Lalas53 Aardvark’s snack54 Vegan milk choice57 Streamlet58 Closely knit community that provides social support, or what 16-, 23-, 36-, and 46-Across contain?63 Apple on a teacher’s desk, perhaps64 Simmers with rage65 Low point66 Pokémon trainer Ketchum67 Small samples68 Pic-sharing appDOWN1 As many as2 One with deep knowledge of a subject3 Completely mistaken4 “The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear” film5 NBA official6 Salsa choice7 401(k) alternative8 Songwriter/actor __-Manuel Miranda9 Considered10 Model material11 Gospel singers12 Toss away14 Fruit from a Brazilian palm17 Sort22 FedEx rival24 “__ Lang Syne”25 TV producer Norman26 “Fast Car” singer Chapman27 Munich mister28 Series of gigs30 Old electrical unit31 Bring home from the pound32 Abbr. at the start of a day planner33 Pictures that don’t need to be shaken34 Pigeon-__35 Spots that may be classified37 “Titans” actor Morales38 Radiate39 Diaper bag cloth43 Stereo input letters44 Flat-bottomed boats46 Cosmic fate47 Name on a false document48 Sandy spot49 Jockey rival50 Loose __51 DOJ branch55 Touched down56 Supermodel Banks59 Yes, from Yves60 Strike caller?61 Vader, as a boy62 Guyhoroscopein the starsSOLUTION
Page 34 HAPPENINGS June 18, 2026 www.hap2it.com\"The best thing about being 80 isthat you outlive the clocks that havebeen chasing you. It's freedom fromthat lie that anything was everunder control. You don't chase theparade anymore. You're an old kingfrom some vanished country. You'reharder to program… (On thedownside) The old fire in yourheart still tells you to do this andthat, but your body says we alreadydid it. Also, nothing surprises you. It sounds like a luxury butit's not, and also you've run out of illusions. The really worstpart about being 80 is that you find, at last, you've got anunderstanding of something that might have altered everythingin the past, had it come at a time when something could still bealtered. When you're young you think that time moves forward. At 80 you know that it doesn't, it stands still.
