In New Orleans its Central Grocery, in New York, it’s Katz’s, and one of the oldest delis in Los Angeles, Canter’s, draws a big crowd of both locals and tourists. However, not many cities the size of Kenosha can boost of having a deli with the reputation of Tenuta’s Delicatessen and Liquors, 3203 52nd Street. However, a closer look at license plates in Tenuta’s parking lot underscores the popularity of this venerable deli as a foodie destination. For out of town visitors closer to home, the enriching aroma of Italian meats, cheeses, and other delicacies floats through the air welcoming you to Tenuta’s. In 1950, John and Lydia Tenuta opened a small corner store serving malts, sundaes, deli, and grocery items on the corner of 52nd Street and 32nd Avenue. Over the years, Tenuta’s has been remodeled and expanded several times to accommodate its growing selection of specialty merchandise. Pictured above is Ralph Tenuta with parents Lydia and John. Ralph lived a long fruitful life and passed away at the ripe age of 87. It is now being run by the 3rd and 4th generation of the the family. Throughout this grand historic Kenosha landmark, they provide high quality Italian food, one of the largest liquor and beer selections in the city, specialty candies, hand-rolled cigars, and much more.
