I was inspired by what I was doing with my son and
his cousin in our own backyard. I wanted to share ONLINE AT DOWNTOWNKENOSHA.ORG & HAP2IT.COM
the experience with everyone and how it felt.
With the customers, I can see how proud they are
with themselves that they took on the experience
and created something that is beautiful and unique.
Everyone leaves with a smile saying it was a
surprising stress relief. I feel excited that I created
a space for people to find other ways to be
proud of themselves

Tell us about the Creatives for Community

The idea of Hot Mess really became a reality when I
needed a way to support Creatives for Community -
the artist/crafter collective I founded. Creatives for
Community is a no fee artist/crafter collective where
all of us give back to the community, whether it’s
sharing a percent of sales on the website to an
organization in need, or other supportive efforts.
This year, we will be hosting the Creatives for
Community Fall Fest! A hats and gloves drive at
Fusion, 5014 Seventh Ave., while selling our arts and
crafts! The donated hats and gloves will be shared
with public transit riders who may need while
waiting around for the bus this winter.

How did Blue House Books begin? - Samantha Jacquest
Blue House Books started in August 2017 as a

In September, you took over your new location at
5915 Sixth Ave-A, what inspired the change?
I had been considering looking into a larger location Open Tuesday - Friday, 11am - 6pm
since early Spring this year. While I absolutely loved
my cozy little shop, things got challenging when I Saturday & Sunday 10am - 4pm
would hold events and the checkout line would blue-house-books.com

browsing.
I am so fortunate to have found an amazing and ONLINE AT DOWNTOWNKENOSHA.ORG & HAP2IT.COM
supportive landlord. Neil completely renovated the
storefront and all I had to do was move in my
fixtures and of course the books!

What kind of books does Blue House
Books specialize in?
We try to carry a little bit of everything, but there
are definitely some areas that are very popular with
our customers, such as adult fantasy and thriller
titles, and children's books. If we don't have it in the
store, we can most likely order it for you!

How has owning Blue House Books
changed your life?
In so many ways! I have met the most amazing
people as an indie bookstore owner, from the
passionate readers in my community, to the
amazing business owners in town, to other
bookstore owners around the world. This is truly a
passion industry, and there's no better place to be
than surrounded by books every day.

What are your goals for Blue House Books?
Blue House Books has already come so far, but
I still have a ton of plans for the future. I'm sure I'll
be happy in our new location for a few years, but I
think I can see one more expansion in our distant
future, with a cafe and larger event space. I also
hope to utilize my education and develop a
publishing branch of the company. My hope is to
refresh my knowledge of the industry by becoming
involved with a publishing company, then
eventually start my own.
