In June 2021, after 34 years at Beach Park School
District #3, Terri Poulsen will retire from the Beach
Park School District.

Terri started as a volunteer for various school
events. Her efforts led her to become PTA President of
all 5 Beach Park schools and eventually, wanting to
make an even bigger impact in her community, she
became a school board member.

In 1993 Terri took a position as Administrative
Assistant, and then Health Clerk, and for the next 29
years she selflessly attended to the needs of
administrators, staff, and students. She always made
the office a welcoming environment for all who
walked through its doors, with her warm, friendly
smile and bright, seasonal decorations. For the
students and staff at Oak Crest School, the office was
a place that they would come to be sung to on their
birthdays, receive a treasure box for a lost tooth, an ice pack or bandaid for the occasional bump, scrape or cut, or just to get a hug if they were
having a bad day. Terri made each person feel important! Terri served as the classified staff Union President for 22 years.

In addition to her contributions to the Beach Park School District, Terri was a 16 year member of the Board of Education of Zion-Benton Township
High School serving as President. She was also the President of the Special Education of Lake County Governing Board.

When asked about her retirement, Terri had this to say, “I have been asked what I am going to do now. I am going to read books that have been
on my ‘must read’ list for years. I will crochet, volunteer at the fire department and the hospital, play with my grandchildren, enjoy more get-
togethers with friends, and, did I mention, I will crochet.”

“I would like to thank my colleagues for their support and friendship during this important part of my life’s journey. I will always remember the
laughter, joys and struggles we faced together and I will be forever grateful for the stimulating company and the enormous collection of shared
experiences indelibly printed on my mind. I am still working on finding the best of me. This is an exciting, on-going journey.”
