Page 4 HAPPENINGS May 2, 2024 www.hap2it.com Elisabeth Moss said The Veil, on Hulu, required innovative choreography to make her into a convincing action hero with her 5' 3" frame. Moss stars as Imogen, a MI6 agent trying to recover suspected terrorist Adilah El Idrissi (Yumma Marwen) before the United States gets to her. "I'm quite small, so [Imogen] had to use her skill and intelligence rather than brute force," Moss said in a Los Angeles interview. "It was a lot about wrist manipulation and quick movements." Speaking in Imogen's British accent required as much training as the combat, Moss said. She said she worked on the dialect for six months before filming and continued practicing through postproduction. "[Accents] immediately establish a different character when the character has a completely different voice," Moss said. "So, it's a very helpful tool, but they're not easy, especially not if you're a perfectionist like I am." Imogen finds Adilah in Turkey and earns enough of her trust to convince her to flee with her. During their journey, Adilah and Imogen bond in unexpected ways, Moss said. Moss said the friendship that evolves is genuine, even though Imogen still suspects Adilah is a terrorist. "As they learn more about each other, it might ebb and flow," Moss said. "She actually likes Adilan and she respects her." Moss said Imogen makes Adilah feel seen and thus encourages Adilah to open up to Imogen on their journey. "They've had very different lives, so they've wound up in very different places," Moss said. "They both go to a place that they didn't expect to go." The story of The Veil developed from an idea from producer Denise Di Novi. She pitched Steven Knight, who "created the whole world and characters," Di Novi said. FX, which produced Knight's Taboo, A Christmas Carol and Great Expectations, developed the show before it offered The Veil to Moss. Hulu is FX's exclusive streaming home. Moss also is an executive producer of The Veil with Knight and Di Novi. Di Novi said Moss matched her passion and work ethic. "She was 100% my partner as a producer in this," Di Novi said. "She's obviously done a lot more television than I have." Moss said she was grateful that Di Novi welcomed her as a producer, because Di Novi has been producing since the '80s with films like Heathers and Edward Scissorhands. Moss said both she and Di Novi worked weekends across international time differences. "We both understand that it can be a 24/7 job," Moss said. "We're both very relentless in our pursuit of the best possible creative [outcome]." That pursuit included organizing The Veil production on location in three countries, Turkey, Paris and the United Kingdom. Di Novi said the production scouted "places where these characters would really inhabit, not just the Instagram version of Paris or Istanbul," adding that The Veil worked around the 2023 French pension reform protests in Paris and earthquakes in Turkey. "It was totally worth it," Di Novi said. "The business is now a global business and the world is global so we really wanted to reflect that." By Fred Topel Fight scenes and accents challenged Elisabeth Moss on Hulu’s ‘The Veil’ Elisabeth Moss plays a MI6 agent on the FX/Hulu series "The Veil." born Elisabeth Singelton Moss July 24, 1982 (age 41) Los Angeles, California Initially, Moss aspired to be a professional dancer. In her adolescence, she traveled to New York City to study ballet at theSchool of American Ballet. She continued to study dance through her teenage years, but started getting acting roles as well. To manage her education and career, she beganhomeschooling, and graduated in 1999. Moss began acting in the early 1990s and first gained recognition for playing theyoungest daughterof President Bartlet, in theNBCpolitical drama seriesThe West Wing(1999–2006). She earned wider recognition for playingPeggy Olson, a secretary-turnedcopywriter, in theAMCperiod drama Mad Men(2007–2015), and subsequently won theGolden Globe Award for Best Actress for portraying Detective Griffin in the BBC miniseriesTop of the Lake(2013). For producing and starring as June Osbornein theHuludystopian drama seriesThe Handmaid's Tale(2017–present), Moss won the Emmy Award forOutstanding Lead Actres in a Drama Series and Outstanding Drama Series, among other accolades. Moss has also attracted acclaim for her film performances, notably supporting roles inGirl, Interrupted(1999),Get Him to the Greek(2010), andUs(2019), and starring roles inThe One I Love(2014),The Square(2017),The Invisible Man(2020) andShirley(2020). Moss was raised under and still practicesScientology and identifies as afeminist. After a fan questioned whether her role in the Hulu seriesThe Handmaid's Talemade her think about her involvement with the Church of Scientology, Moss defended her beliefs onInstagram, writing that the idea that Gilead in the series and Scientology "both believe that all outside sources are wrong or evil", as the fan had described, is "actually not true at all". She continued, "Religious freedom and tolerance and understanding the truth and equal rights for every race, religion and creed are extremely important to me. FYI Elisabeth Moss

Don’t forget to grab your tickets now for the hilarious announcer for WGN Morning News, Mike Toomey, performing at the Kenosha Comedy Club on May 10th and 11th! As an Illinois native, Mike has been performing in comedy clubs around the Chicago area since 1982. His quick wit and sharp delivery have made him a very popular television figure, starring on various HBO, MTV, and A&E comedy programs. Being a part of the morning team, Mike has had the opportunity to perform with Wayne Newton, Crosby, Reba McIntire and many more. You do not want to miss this polished act! Q: How did you get started in comedy? A: Comedy is what I have wanted to do since I was very young. I started performing stand up at the age of 16 and after I graduated from high school, I started going to the comedy clubs trying out until I was ultimately hired as a regular. Q: What makes your set/style of comedy unique and different from other comedians? A: I think in the case of any comedian, what makes their comedy different is their background, life experiences, and their particular take on everything around them. Q: What is the biggest inspiration behind your material? A: Inspiration can come at any time: when you’re on stage, driving, walking the dog, anything, really. You just have to be alert enough to grab it when it hits you. For me, it's then a matter of talking them through until the words all fall into place. Q: Who is your favorite comedian or someone you idolize in the industry? A: My comedy idol has always been George Carlin. My brother had one of his albums that I listened to over and over. I always appreciated his comedic intellect, his powers of observation, and his mastery of the English language. There will never be another like him. Q: If you weren't a comedian what else could you see yourself doing? A: I probably would have been one of those guys who goes door to door selling steaks out of the back of a station wagon. Page 6 HAPPENINGS May 2, 2024 www.hap2it.com Man runs one mile in swimming pool in 35 minutes, 24 seconds A British man ran a distance of one mile through the water in a swimming pool in an attempt to break a Guinness World Record. Adam Lopez, 37, ran 63 laps in the 82-foot pool with a time of 35 minutes and 24 seconds. Lopez bested the current Guinness World Record by four and a half minutes. Lopez said he started exercising in the pool after being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes "When someone tells you your life's under threat it changes your complexion on how you look at your mortality," he told the BBC. "Sometimes we take our lives for granted and our health for granted and we shouldn't, we should look after ourselves, look after our body because it's the only place you've got to live." The record attempt raised money for a 5-year-old girl named Grace, who was diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy. Alligator rescued after six months trapped in drainage pipe A wildlife rescuer in South Carolina came to the rescue of an alligator found to have been trapped in a drainage pipe for nearly six months. Matt Kraycar of K&K Wildlife Services said he was summoned by Port Royal Plantation security in Hilton Head when the gator was spotted trapped underneath a grate. Kraycar said the alligator apparently became stuck while swimming through the pipe in October and had been trapped ever since. "Well they can go into brumation, which is basically like hibernation for reptiles," Kraycar told WTOC-TV. "So as it gets cooler, they're going to shut their body down. So by doing that, he doesn't really need to eat as much as he typically would during the summer, and I'm sure there were still fish and turtles coming through those pipes as well, so it didn't look like he was starving by any means." He said the reptile had minor injuries including a chaffed snout from rubbing up against the grate, but will make a full recovery in the wild. Laos immigrant battling cancer wins $1.3B Powerball jackpot A Laos immigrant battling cancer was identified as the winner of this month's $1.3 billion Powerball jackpot. Cheng "Charlie" Saephan, 46, of Portland, Ore., was the holder of the winning ticket for the fourth-largest grand jackpot in Powerball history. Saephan is sharing the prize with his wife, 37-year-old Duanpen Saephan, and friend Laiza Chao, 55. They have opted for the more than $422 million cash option that they have agreed to split down the middle. The 46-year-old told the lotto that the money will allow him and his family to live "worry free" as he fights his illness. Saephan said he has been battling cancer since 2016 and is currently undergoing chemotherapy. "I will be able to provide for my family," he said, stating his prayers were answered. Saephan had bought more than 20 tickets for the April 6 draw. In the weeks preceding the drawing, he slept upon a pillow under which was a piece of paper with the numbers of the game written out, it said. "I prayed to God to help me," he said, according to Powerball. "My kids are young and I'm not healthy." He said Chao had given him $100 toward purchasing the tickets, and he called his friend following the draw to drop the good news. The win is by far the largest ever claimed in the state, with the second largest being a $340 million jackpot in 2005. Report estimates a quarter of U.S. women will have an abortion in their lifetime As the battle over abortion continues to rage in the courts and American politics, a new report estimates that one in every four U.S. women will undergo the procedure during their lifetime. The study was issued by the Guttmacher Institute, a research and policy organization focused on sexual and reproductive health that supports access to abortion. Researchers there surveyed nearly 6,700 U.S. women who accessed clinical abortion care at 56 nonhospital facilities in 21 states between June 2021 and July 2022, just prior to the Dobbs decision overturning Roe v. Wade. Using that and other data, the Guttmacher researchers found that 20- to 24- year-old women had the highest rate of abortions. This survey did not include women who managed their abortions outside of the formal healthcare system. The statistic showing that a quarter of women will undergo an abortion "confirms what we already know: Abortion is a normal part of the reproductive lives of people with the capacity to become pregnant," said Rachel Jones, principal research scientist at Guttmacher. "Bans and restrictions are designed to stigmatize abortion, but our study shows one in four women is expected to have an abortion in their lifetime," she said. "That means that almost everyone, including abortion opponents, knows someone who has had an abortion." Other data from the report: • Adolescents ages 15 to 17 had the lowest rate of abortions, at 2.1 per 1,000 • 58% of all women surveyed said this was their first abortion • 57%-59% women in their 30s and 40s who were surveyed said this was not their first abortion • 13% of women could be expected to have an abortion by the age of 25 Another recent Guttmacher report found that between 2020 and 2023, rates of abortion rose by about 10%, which might push the percentage of women who get an abortion in their lifetime even higher. coast to coast Healthy lifestyle could counteract effects of lifeshortening genes A healthy lifestyle could counteract the effects of lifeshortening genes by more than 60%, a new analysis of several large long-term studies suggests. "The study probed into the joint impacts of lifestyle and genetic factors on human lifespans," said one author, Dr. Xifeng Wu, dean of the School of Public Health and vice president of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine in China. An unfavorable lifestyle was associated with a 78% heightened risk of death, regardless of genetic determinants. But a favorable lifestyle could potentially mitigate the genetic risk of premature death by approximately 62%, said Wu. The greatest danger applied to participants with both a genetic predisposition to short lifespans and an unfavorable lifestyle. They had twice the risk of death compared to those with a genetic predisposition to long lifespans and a favorable lifestyle, the researchers noted. However, they pointed out that individuals with a high genetic predisposition for shorter lifespans still face a 21% increased risk of death compared to those with low genetic risk, irrespective of their lifestyle choices. The study identified an optimal combination of four lifestyle factors -- no current smoking, regular physical activity, adequate sleep duration and a healthy diet -- for prolonging human lifespan. "Given that lifestyle behavioral habits are typically developed before middle age, implementing effective public health interventions is quite crucial for those at high genetic risk to extend their lifespan before the formation of a fixed lifestyle," Wu said. Based on the study's findings, it's best to "focus on building and sticking to healthy habits, no matter what your genes say," she added. Adam Lopez Cheng Saephan

www.hap2it.com May 2, 2024 HAPPENINGS Page 7 Shogun executive producer Michaela Clavell says she thinks the themes of honor and purpose in FX's adaptation of her late father James' historical novel is resonating with audiences in 2024. "It's really a story of how you choose to live and die at its very basic essence," Clavell said in a recent Zoom interview. "It's a story of choices, and one thing my father was known for in his writing is his way of presenting many different points of view within the one book," she said. "Each character has a different point of view. I think when you are presented with choices, it's never a bad thing." Clavell added: "Do you live with honor or do you live without honor? Do you die with honor? Do you die without honor? These topics are brought up, and it's thought provoking, and that's always timely for a culture to examine." Having recently wrapped up on FX and available to stream on Hulu, the 10-episode miniseries is set in Japan in 1600 at the start of a civil war. Husband-wife team Justin Marks and Rachel Kondo were the showrunners, while producer Hiroyuki Sanada starred as feudal lord Yoshii Toranaga, who enlists the help of marooned English ship pilot John Blackthorne (Cosmo Jarvis) and translator Mariko (Anna Sawai) as he battles for power against the local council of regents. Clavell described seeing the latest screen translation of her father's 1975 book as "mindblowing." The novel had been turned into a beloved 1980 miniseries. "You always hope that things will turn out spectacularly. But it's still breath-taking when it does," she said. "As a personal journey, as a representative of his estate, we wanted so much to do justice to his incredible and complicated and layered writing and book, which is one of several he wrote on the subject of Asia." Marks and Kondo spent nearly a decade developing and writing the 2024 version. The coronavirus pandemic gave the married collaborators even more time to polish it into "the incredible jewel and shining star that it is right now," according to Clavell, who praised the quality of the production, acting and writing as "extraordinary." "It's very gratifying to see something come to life when you haven't even dreamt it that well," she said. "It was a real work of passion and a great deal of thought and energy went into it -- to get this right, to get this authentic, to get the Japanese point of view told authentically and well." Clavell said the biggest challenge regarding casting was coordinating people's schedules and abiding by COVID-19 protocols. "It's a juggling of people's timetables. Who can make it? Who can't? From the beginning, Hiro was committed and he was Toranaga from the start. That was a wonderful beginning," Clavell said. "Cosmo Jarvis is so perfect for this Blackthorne," she added. "He brought humor to the part, which was in the book and was nice to be able to bring to the screen. "Mariko is a very modern portrayal of a woman while still keeping the traditional values of the time period. Anna is a fierce Mariko and that comes through very strongly." Clavell said she thinks these characters will appeal to the younger generation of viewers. "My daughter, who is 30, is very impressed by Mariko and her unapologetic fierceness," Clavell added. "It's a modern tale, as well as an ancient tale." Also because of the pandemic, the show had to be filmed in British Columbia instead of Japan. Clavell said she doesn't believe the production suffered for the cinematic sorcery, however. "The cinematography of British Columbia has never been done more beautifully filmed than it has in this show," she said. "Nature, which is a part of the Japanese culture, is a part of this Shogun. It's in every scene -- the mountains the ocean. I think it's a character in itself and that comes through so beautifully." Mother Nature also worked against them at times with British Columbia experiencing one of its rainiest periods in history, Clavell noted. "It wasn't an easy shoot at all -- weather-wise and COVID-wise -- but yet you don't know that. You don't see that [on-screen]," she said. "It was a triumph over adversity." By Karen Butler Michaela Clavell: 'Shogun' themes of honor, sacrifice resonate in 2024 Left to right, Cosmo Jarvis, Anna Sawai, Hiroyuki Sanada and Tadanobu Asano attend the premiere of the Hulu TV mini series "Shogun" at the Academy Museum in Los Angeles on February 13.

One of the earliest catchphrases from the film is “May the Force be with you.” Over the years, May 4th has become an unofficial Star Wars holiday due to the pun “May the Fourth be with you.” The very first reference of this pun has been noted from May 4, 1979 the day after Margaret Thatcher was elected as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. They picked their 100 favorite Star Wars heroes, villains, and droids from all across the franchise. Here is their top 10. Entertaiment Weekly Star Wars has always been a story built on archetypes: the scoundrel, the farm boy, the grizzled wizard. But there's nothing typical about Carrie Fisher's Leia Organa. From the moment we meet the princess she's a new kind of hero, a damsel in distress who happily hijacks her own rescue mission. What makes Leia extraordinary is her complexity: She's a princess and a general, a daughter and a mother, a lover and a warrior. She's also deeply funny, and she can deliver a one-liner that would disarm even the most unflappable Imperial officer. Although the first Star Wars film was released in May 1977, it didn’t reach Kenosha until July 15th of that year when it opened at the Roosevelt Theatre

The yowling started shortly after I folded myself into seat 6C on the Southwest flight from Washington, D.C., to Chicago. It was coming from 6D or, specifically, under 6D, where emotional support animals congregate. “She’s mad at me,” said the woman occupying 7D, gesturing to the flowered bag nestled on the floor between her and the forward seat. “I gave her a ball of yarn, but she wants out.” The conversation didn’t include me; it was directed at a fellow cat lover, sitting directly behind me. Together, the two swapped stories of taking their beloved kitties on flights to Lord only knows where. “She’s NEVER been away from me,” the woman said, as the meowing increased, loud enough to pierce a jet engine’s hum. “But next week I’m going to a bachelorette party and there’s NO WAY I can bring her.” In the next few minutes, I learned the cat was a hypoallergenic Russian Blue breed; she was not a rescue; her first flight was to New Orleans where the woman’s parents lived; she was still full of “kitty energy” despite her advancing age (the cat, not the owner) and cat toys interested her for five minutes tops, even those crocheted by her “mom.” as the owner referred to herself. Glancing over, I noticed the rambunctious, yet still unseen feline also occupied the woman’s iPhone screensaver. I have grown accustomed to airline passengers who insist on plane travel with their animals, whether it’s for emotional support purposes, they’re too cheap to pay for boarding, or they don’t trust friends or relatives to tend to their animals’ every need via daily visits. While doing research for what may be an upcoming book on “gig work,” I briefly drove for Uber. One fare consisted of a couple on their way to Los Angeles with their two dogs. I didn’t recognize the breeds, but one pooch was significantly larger than its travel companion and commanded most of the owners’ attention as we crawled to O’Hare. The couple was convinced the larger dog could potentially be trouble. Both dogs, I learned, were given ample amounts of medication prior to my arrival, in hope they would sleep the entire flight. Later that day I texted the husband, half-jokingly inquiring if the dogs caused them to lose their frequent flier status. “We got written up,” he texted back. “Because of the little dog.” Like I said, I find these stories amusing. Pet lovers, travel with your live creatures at your own risk. I’m fine with that. It’s the fake ones I can do without. I’ve lost count of the number of passengers I’ve seen trudging down airplane aisles with stuffed animals. Their owners are typically female, late teens to early 20s, and clad in workout pants and bulky sweatshirts bearing the name of either a university or a sporting event. During the flights, they cradle their cotton, hug it tight, or, worse, shove it in overhead bins reserved for other items. Like actual BAGS! Thankfully, it appears the FAA has taken notice. While stuffed animals are not illegal, larger ones now qualify as “luggage,” a rule the Southwest gate agent confirmed over the loudspeaker as we lined up to board. In typical Southwest fashion, it was done in a humorous manner; but the message was clear: If you want to caress your fake animal in flight, plan to keep doing so while awaiting the bag you could have brought aboard but now have to check. Hear that, Gen Z sorority sisters? You may want to look into train travel. I didn’t know how many stuffed animals were aboard my flight but, considering college spring break was in full swing, I guessed at least a dozen. Luckily, I found overhead space for my suitcase, allowing me to contemplate whether the cat owner next to me will actually be able to survive her upcoming bachelorette party without her beloved companion. Maybe there’s a Russian Blue stuffed kitty that will soothe her in flight. Let’s hope the bag she had to check doesn’t go missing. www.hap2it.com May 2, 2024 HAPPENINGS Page 13 Copenhagen is known for happy people and hygge (pronounced HEW-geh), which means enjoying the cozy simplicity of everyday life, like walking along the beach, or sharing a picnic of smørrebrød (open-faced sandwiches) with a friend. Where else would Hans Christian Andersen, a mermaid statue, and lovingly decorated open-face sandwiches be the icons of a major capital? For the tourist, Copenhagen is compact. After a busy day cruising the canals, touring its palace, and strolling a shop-lined pedestrian boulevard called the Strøget, you'll feel right at home. Start your city visit at Rådhuspladsen (City Hall Square), the bustling heart of Copenhagen. This used to be the fortified west end of town. The king cleverly quelled a French revolutionarytype thirst for democracy by giving his people Europe's first great public amusement park, Tivoli, in 1843 – just beyond the city walls. When the train lines came, the station was built next door to Tivoli – for the best possible access to all the fun. Today the walls and moats of Copenhagen are long gone. They’re replaced by a ring of lush parks and tranquil lakes – so appreciated by the nearly naked sunbathers who savor the short Danish summer – oblivious to all the history that surrounds them. The train station, Tivoli, and City Hall huddle together. From there, the Strøget pedestrian street stretches through the heart of the old køben (merchant's) havn (harbor) to the old sailor’s quarter, a 15-minute walk away – but don't rush it. Nyhavn, formerly a sleazy sailors' quarter, lounges comfortably around its canal. A few lonely tattoo parlors and smoky taverns stubbornly defend their salty turf against a rising tide of trendy, expensive cafés. Glamorous sailboats fill the canal. Any historic sloop is welcome to moor here, temporarily joining the fleet that makes up Copenhagen's ever-changing boat museum, a scene of modern-day Vikings gone soft. While tattoos were once the mark of crusty old sailors, today they are Viking chic. Young Danish bodybuilders showing off muscles, tans, and tattoos, clog the harborside promenade working their way through cases of local beer. The scene is off-putting to many tourists who don’t realize that, in a land with astronomical taxes on serving alcohol in bars, this is just the only affordable way for the normal working-class gang to “go out” for a few beers. I consider the outdoor beer consumption in Denmark no different than the consumption in an English pub…just on the curb rather than at the bar. The city's most famous (and photographed) citizen, the Little Mermaid, sits demurely a few blocks away, posing patiently for all the tour groups and wondering when a prankster will steal her head again. (The poor mermaid has been victim to decapitation and other acts of vandalism over the past century.) If your rambles whet your appetite for history, the excellent and curiously enjoyable National Museum traces the Danish civilization from its ancient beginnings. English explanations make the prehistoric passage graves, mummified Viking bodies with armor and weapons, the rustic yet mysteriously exquisite 2,000- year-old Gundestrup Cauldron, ancient lur horns that still can be played, and mead drinking horns particularly interesting. Copenhagen is one of Europe’s most expensive cities, but smart travelers can keep expenses down without going to extremes. A Copenhagen Card sightseeing pass covers entry to many city sights (including pricey ones, like Tivoli) and local transportation. (It can save money if you plan to visit a lot of attractions, especially the ones with steep entry fees, but do the math to see if it adds up for you.) Do as the Scandinavians do and stay in budget hotels with shared bathrooms or in hostels (most have private rooms and great breakfasts). Both are respectable options in clean and wholesome Scandinavia. Breakfasts offered at lodgings are all-you-can-eat and so hearty that you’ll need only a light lunch. Budget travelers eat well with a few tips. Viktualiehandler (small delis) and bagerier (bakeries), found on nearly every corner, sell tasty pastries such as wienerbrød. (These are what the we in the States call a "Danish"). Try the drinkable yogurt, caviar paste in a squeeze tube, creamy Havarti, and dense rugbrød (rye bread). Treats like these make picnics as memorable as they are inexpensive. Denmark's famous open-face sandwiches cost a fortune in restaurants, but many street corner smorrebrød shops sell them for more reasonable prices. Drop into one of these often no-name, family-run alternatives to Yankee fast food, and get several elegant sandwiches to go. There's no more Danish way to picnic. The tradition calls for three sandwich courses: herring first, then meat, then cheese, washed down with a local beer. "Skål!" By Rick Steves Glimpse the ancient past in northeast England travel The colorful Nyhavn neighborhood is the place to moor on a sunny day in Copenhagen.

But maybe not. In a report published in Applied and Environmental Microbiology a few years ago, researchers collected samples of bacterial colonies on plates. A typical bathroom air sample averaged less than one colony, while those positioned under a hand dryer for 30 seconds averaged 18 to 60 colonies per plate. The researchers couldn't determine whether the dryers were actually harboring bacteria or simply sucking it up and then blowing a concentrated amount back out. The dryer nozzles harbored only minimal bacteria levels. They deduced that bacteria in public bathrooms was likely originating from nearby lidless toilets, which can release fecal particles when flushed. So even if you thoroughly wash your hands, you may end up just blowing new microbes on them. Grab a paper towel next time. Body of Knowledge Cognitive neuroscientists estimate humans are conscious of only about 5% of their cognitive activity, leaving most decisions, actions, emotions and behaviors to brain activity operating beyond our awareness. Best Medicine Did you hear about the veterinarian who is also a taxidermist? The sign outside his office reads: "Either way, you get your dog back." Hypochondriac's Guide Rapunzel syndrome involves the behaviors of pulling out one's hair (trichotillomania) and eating it (trichophagia). It is generally seen in children and adolescents. If untreated, it can cause serious complications because the hair collects in the stomach and intestine. In one documented case, a woman complained of sudden vomiting and constipation. She also described a recent history of appetite and weight loss. Clinical investigations could not provide an immediate explanation, but her deteriorating condition eventually prompted exploratory surgery. Doctors found a 5-inch hairball in her stomach and a slightly smaller "trichobezoar" in her small intestine. Following the surgical removal of the hair, the patient was discharged and referred for psychotherapeutic treatment. Medical History This week in 1880, the first U.S. patent for an electric hearing aid was issued to Francis D. Clarke and M.G. Pop music star Taylor Swift took to social media last weekend to thank her fans for the support of her latest album The Tortured Poets Department, which was released April 19th. "My girls are all Swifties. They went to see her on the Eras tour. My eldest daughter isn't as much of a Swiftie as my younger ones, and she was like, 'I don't really want to go.' And I was like, 'Listen. I'm not the biggest Taylor Swift fan in the world, but I will say this, what you're about to go to will be a thing of legend. You'll be able to tell your kids you went and saw her on arguably the biggest tour and artist the world has ever seen. So just for the historical component, you have to go.’ And she ended up having the best time ever. So yeah, my kids are fullblown Swifties." While speaking with People about The Osbournes Podcast, 38-year-old Jack Osbourne shared that his four daughters are all big fans of Taylor Swift. To realize that the effect that some of these songs have had on cultures is humbling." "I love music and it's something that's been special to me.
