2020 seemed to last much longer than a year for so many of us.

Kenosha History Center

The Kenosha History Center (220 – 51st Place, Simmons Island) and Southport
Light Station Museum (5117 4th Ave) are excited to announce their reopening
for the general public. While visiting the Kenosha History Center and Southport

Light Station Museum there will be some guidelines in place to help protect the
wellness of the community: masks will be required. Staff and volunteers will be
wearing masks when in close proximity to others, and the museum will require
all patrons to also wear a face covering. The museums will operate with a limited
occupancy. If the museum is busy, you may be asked to wait for others to leave

before touring. Please keep a respectful distance from other groups. Please
don’t crowd many groups together.

photo: visitkenosha.com Southport Light Station Museum Open for the Season
The 1866 Southport Lighthouse tower, located at 5117 Fourth Ave on Simmons

Island, is open for visitors 8 years of age and older to climb Thursdays - Saturdays from 10am - 4pm and Sundays from noon - 4pm.

Its 72-step spiral staircase will take you to the lantern room for an unparalleled view of Kenosha, the surrounding area, and, on a

crystal clear day, the Chicago skyline. The tower stands 55 feet above the lighthouse grounds. See Kenosha, Lake Michigan and into

Illinois and Racine County. The maritime museum, inside the keeper's house, documents Kenosha's lighthouse keepers, shipping and

fishing history, and local shipwrecks. Admission for the keeper's house tour is free; donations are welcome. Lighthouse climb costs

$10 for ages 12 and over / $5 children 8-11 years old. (Must be 8 or older to climb.) Tours will not be open on Sunday, July 4th.

Kenosha History Center Classic Car Cruise-in Nights
New for 2021 is the Classic Car Cruise-In on the last Friday of each month this summer at the Kenosha History Center, from 4pm -

8pm! Join fellow car enthusiasts in the Kenosha History Center parking lot and show off your classic automobiles. The events are
FREE and open to all classic vehicles. The Kenosha History Center and Southport Light Station Museum will be open until 7pm on

these nights: June 25th, July 30th, August 20th, & September 24th.

Kenosha Public Market

Early bird shopping (8:30 a.m. to 9 a.m.) is dedicated to seniors and those with

disabilities. Hours for the general public are 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. As always, the

Kenosha Public Market offers KPM2GO (online store) ensuring you get your

favorite products. Shoppers short on time during a busy Saturday morning or those

who cannot browse the market to do their own shopping can shop online at

KPM2GO and pick up your bags with ease at the information booth or curbside.

Kenosha Public Market’s vibrant community space is located at 625 52nd Street.

Plentiful free parking is available directly across the street at the Sheridan Road lot

with entrances and exits now on 54th Street for more convenient traffic flow. There

are several reserved handicapped parking spaces as well. Kenosha Public

Market offers an incredible selection of locally grown produce, mushrooms and

fruit, locally sourced meats, and poultry, plus the finest seafood, cheeses, baked

goods, confections, pantry items, prepared meals, plant based and keto foods.

They also offer professional knife sharpening services, soaps and cosmetics,

health and wellness products and local art/crafts, made with love, talent, and

expert skill. Enjoy the food court for easy takeout or enjoy breakfast/lunch at social-

ly distanced picnic tables while listening to live music in Veterans Memorial Park. photo:visitkenosha.com

A core mission of Kenosha Public Market is to help provide access to great, local

food to all people. Their ‘market match’ program serves those receiving supplemental benefits including families with young

children, seniors, and disabled individuals. Those that receive SNAP and/or WIC benefits are eligible to double their benefits up to

$20 each market day, increasing their access to fresh, healthy, and local foods.

Even when being Covid-Conscious, it is nice to see friends out and about. Kenosha Public Market is the place to see people and

enjoy getting out in a safe way. Using Covid common sense, we invite everyone to enjoy the fresh air at our community market. Well

behaved dogs are welcomed in their spacious, congestion free, public market, too.

Enjoy a new way to market at Kenosha Public Market! Shop local. Eat Fresh.

The Anderson Arts Center, a part of Kemper Center, is dedicated to the support and promotion of all arts: fine art, music, dance, lit-
erature and drama. The Center, which opened in 1992, seeks to increase awareness of the arts and contribute to arts education in
the community by sponsoring performances, exhibitions, workshops, lectures and special events. The 9,000 square foot mansion
began life as a private residence. The majestic ceilings and large, open expanses of wall space, which were distinctive features of the
mansion, now lend themselves perfectly to the display of art work. In its history, the Anderson Arts Center has evolved into a full-ser-
vice, multifunctional arts center, showcasing the work of a variety of local, regional and national artists. Admission is free to tour the

Celebrate America

After a COVID-releaded hiatus, Celebrate America returns July 3rd and 4th to
Downtown Kenosha. Now in it’s 9th year, this festival celebrates our nation’s
birthday in a big way with two stages of music, a carnival presented by
Rainbow Valley Rides, food vendors, exhibitors and so much more
co-sponsored by the City of Kenosha, Happenings Magazine and Kenosha
County. The two-day festival concludes with a fireworks presentation
courtesy of Festival Foods.

Kenosha Comedy Club

Every Friday and Saturday evening, the
laughs erupt in Downtown Kenosha at
the Kenosha Comedy Club, located in the
Wyndham Garden Hotel. Featuring
national touring headliners as well as
local comedians, each weekend provides
90 minutes of live entertainment. A few of
the upcoming guests scheduled this
summer include: Nathan “Tricky’ Allen
(July 9th and 10th), David “Mr. Showtime’ Scott (July 23rd & 24th) Jimmy “JJ”
Walker (August 6th and 7th) and Henry Cho (August 27th & 28th) For an
updated list of headliners as well as ticket information, visit hap2it.com.

Will there be a Cheese-A-Palooza? Imperials (August 12th). Don’t forget a chair and some bug spray!

During these uncertain times, planning a festival
on the heels of a pandemic has its challenges…
and Cheese-A-Palooza is no exception. One of
the biggest obstacles is securing sponsors.
Without sponsors, many events would never see
the light of day. Sponsorship dollars go a long
way to help defray some of the expenses
involved with hosting an event.
If you are a business owner or know someone
who wants to help us get a little cheesey this Labor Day weekend,
please contact us Happenings Magzine 262-564-8800. It is only
with the generosity of local business sponsors that events such as
Cheese-A-Palooza become a reality.
