Page 4 HAPPENINGS January 15, 2026 www.hap2it.comWhatʼs Happening!!? Stars of the 1970ʼs sitcom arecoming to the Kenosha Comedy Club Jan. 30-31Fifty years ago, ABC premiered agroundbreaking situation comedyaimed at African Americanaudiences. No one could havepredicted the show, What’sHappening!!, the first TV sitcomabout Black teenagers (looselybased on the film Cooley High),would appeal so deeply acrossracial and cultural cross-sectionsof America. How deep was its appeal? Two ofits headlining stars still crisscrossthe country to meet with andentertain fans. Ernest Thomasand Haywood Nelson will appearJan. 30 and 31 at the KenoshaComedy Club, 5125 6th Ave.Tickets are $29.62 and 23.92 andcan be purchased atwww.hap2it.com“The casting people did aphenomenal job,” Nelson recalledin an exclusive Happeningsinterview. “They had to try tomirror the movie Cooley High, butthey must have seen something ineach of us that was beyond that, and they made our characters all insuch a way that made for a goodshow.”That show followed three Blackteens in Los Angeles. Raj Thomas(Thomas) was the thoughtful lead, joined by his easygoing friendDwayne Nelson (Nelson) and theenergetic dancer Freddie \"Rerun\"Stubbs (Fred Berry). Raj’s wittysister Dee Thomas (DanielleSpencer) and their strong motherMabel Thomas (Mabel King)anchored the family. The group often gathered at a localdiner, served by the no-nonsensewaitress Shirley Wilson (ShirleyHemphill). The show was – andstill is -- celebrated for its humor, warmth and authentic portrayal offriendship and family, resonatingwith audiences across generations.“Unbeknownst to them, they puttogether a family, -- and not justthe Thomas family,” Nelson says.“And that family would remainthroughout the years -- and likeany family, you have your ups anddowns, you have your fights, yourmakeups, but we went through thefull gamut of that and still remainfamily today.”Both Nelson and Thomas say theshow they’re bringing to Kenosha, which they have traveled thecountry performing, is a feel-goodtime for those who fondlyremember their series. “We really love our fans; they’vebeen like family and vice-versa for50 years,” Thomas said in hisexclusive interview withHappenings. “They’ve seen us intheir living room on TV, but this isthe first time we're going to be inperson in your living room. Andyou’re going to hear stories ofthese 50 years you haven’t heardbefore.”Some of the stories will be aboutThomas’ and Nelson’s relationshipduring the show and through theyears. “It's going to be a lot of love, butthe love will come in the form ofthe camaraderie between Ernestand I, the warmth between us, theplay between us, the stories thatwe each can share from two totallydifferent perspectives,” Nelsonexplains. “Behind the scenesstories, peeks into how What’sHappening!! changed everyone onthe show. We're going to helpbring you there right along withus.” And they will talk about their nowdeparted co-stars, like Spencer, who Thomas says didn’t just playhis little sister on TV – but reallywanted to be his little sister in reallife. “She really wanted to believe Iwas her big brother,” Thomasrecalls. “And being older than herbut still young myself, stillimmature, I was trying to get rid ofher because she was a little tooobsessed after the show. I said,‘No, sweetheart, we're doing makebelieve, honey. I'm just your makebelieve brother. We're not related. So, when I go home after the show, you go to your home.’“I will never forget the day we hadrecorded bout four shows, andafter the last one I'm trying toleave, and she jumped in front ofme, and I said, ‘Little girl, get outof my way.’ I'm trying to move herwith my hands. She starts wailingon me, scratching me seriously. “But then Shirley came over andshe said, ‘She loves you, you fool.’And that was that ‘aha’ moment, asthey say. And she would comeover to the house all the time afterthat.”Nelson remembers King as“Mama of us all.”“She had so many prior successesand she would tell us, ‘This showis a gig, and it has a beginning andit has an end. You don't knowwhen that when that end willcome, but it will come. So, youknow, invest everything in that.’ “And Mabel was very, very soberabout helping us to hear that fromher, especially with myself andDanielle Spencer, the youngerones, with all this adorationcoming in. She would just grab ourhand and go, ‘Mama's here, andjust stay close to what we know.’ ”And then there was Berry, theinitial breakout star of the serieswhose struggles with substanceabuse and ego made for a rocky goon the show. “As far as his feeling that hispopularity deserved more money, Iunderstand it,” Nelson says. “I getwhy he would go there, becausethey leaned on him heavily for hisdance, the fat jokes. I mean, as ateenager, meeting him for the firsttime, he didn't come to What'sHappening!! and become famous. He came to What's Happening!!famous. He came to What'sHappening!! as already whatlooked to me to be like a rock star.He had already been on JohnnyCarson. He already done SoulTrain.”Thomas recalls feeling like anolder brother to Berry. Our relationship, we had ourdisagreements like any family,” heexplained. “And when the drugshad a hold of him, he literallychanged his behavior, the ego, where he felt he was a star, ‘I'm thefunniest.’ But he was my youngerbrother. I was two years older thanhim.”Thomas was even asked byBerry’s son to officiate his funeralwhen he died in 2003. That he didso shows the unbreakable bond thecast had with each other, and theKenosha event will spotlight thefamilial feel Thomas and Nelsonstill have with the What’sHappening!! fan base.As Nelson puts it: “Everybody seems to have theexact same commentary, no matterwhat sub-ethnic group or subculture they came from. Theyalways say, ‘I feel like I know youall. It's like I grew up with you. Iwas a latchkey kid. I came home, Idid what I had to do, but I alwaysrushed to the TV to watch What’sHappening!!. “And seeing you again makes mefeel like a kid. Reminds me of mychildhood all over again.”By Gary SchneebergerWhat’s Happening!! stars Ernest Thomas (Raj, right) and HaywoodNelson (Dwayne, left) will share stories and answer questionsfrom fans on the 50th anniversary of the series’ 1976 debut! Page 10 HAPPENINGS January 15, 2026 www.hap2it.comGrowing up, swimming was nevermy strong sport. Nonetheless, thanks to President Trump Idemand World Aquatics, theswimming federation recognizedby the International OlympicsCommittee, reward me for myexploits in the water.Or better yet, honor me for myefforts to bring peace to our world, even though I haven’t been verysuccessful at that either.Mind you, I am a decent swimmer.Toss me into a pool and I will kickmy legs and arms hard enough torise to the surface. Once there Ican tread water or freestyle myway to the pool’s ladder.Submerge me in a lake or river?I’ll find the boat or the dockunaided. An ocean? I don’t want tothink about having to fend formyself there, especially whensharks will ultimately judge myswimming skills.Wait, I’m Still (more or less) SwimmingHowever, when I was 12 and myparents thought it would be a goodidea to enroll me on a competitiveswim team, I quickly realized Iwould never reach the Olympics, earn a college scholarship ormount a podium of any sort. Whenthe starting gun was fired, everyswimmer entered the water atprecisely the same time. That’swhere the similarities ended.Within seconds, I lagged farbehind. By the time I completedmy race, most of my competitorswere toweling off. Or, if it was thebackstroke, headed home. For my efforts, I received a green“participation” ribbon, apolitically correct award for “lastplace” “thanks for stopping by” or“Greg, have you ever consideredclarinet lessons?” Somesympathetic swim team organizerscreated participation ribbons toavoid hurting the fragile egos ofcompetitors who, deep down, knew they would never berecognized for their swimmingskills and had no business at aswim meet.Fast-forward to last week whenthe draw for the World Cup,soccer’s preeminent event, tookplace in Washington D.C. GianniInfantino, head of FIFA, the WorldCup governing body, gave Trumpa newly created award. It was nota ribbon, but a trophy. Along witha medal Infantino said Trumpcould “wear everywhere you wantto go.”President Trump receives a medalfor…what exactly? The award had nothing to do withsoccer, a sport — and I’m going outon a limb here — Trump neverplayed, even at 12. No, the awardwas for peace.A New Definition of “Peace”It’s no secret Trump feels hedeserves the Nobel Peace Prize. This despite renaming theDepartment of Defense to theDepartment of War. Or watching“peaceful” protesters attack theU.S. Capitol. Or standing idly byas War Secretary Pete Hegseth, according to reports, issues ordersto “kill everybody” aboard vesselswhose occupants may or may notbe smuggling drugs.Trump often brags about how hehas ended eight wars in under ayear even though he has neverrattled them off and never beenchallenged to do so by the WhiteHouse press corps. The RussiaUkrainian conflict drags ondespite Trump’s campaignpromise to end it on his first day inoffice.Nevertheless, there he was, accepting his participation peacetrophy and saying it was “truly oneof the great honors of my life.”Making this spectacle even moreironic is that soccer is somehowequated with peace. While somewould argue the sport is a greatworld unifier, I beg to differ. I’veseen footage of soccer riots andstampedes worldwide. I also madethe mistake of wandering into anIrish-themed bar in New York Cityin 1994, the last time the WorldCup was played on U.S. soil. Iendured numerous shoves and onerandom elbow to the face fromIrish fans celebrating a victory bytheir team.Swimming is far more peaceful.Nobody rioted when MichaelPhelps won eight swimming goldmedals at the 2008 BeijingOlympics, did they? So, now I am ready to acceptwhatever peace award WorldAquatics bestows upon me. Oh,and I just remembered, I DIDbring harmony to a swimmingrelated event several years ago. While vacationing with mychildren at a Mexican resort, Isolved an argument concerningwhich child would first get to usean inflatable pool toy.God bless me.greg schwemI Am Ready for my Swimming Peace PrizeMy Turn Schwem.qxp_My Turn 1-2H 1/13/26 1:39 PM Page 1Call For Office Hours011526Fitness Warrior & Super HeroesBaby GymBirthday PartiesPreschool Gymnastics5717 6th Ave. Downtown Kenosha(262)818-8888 donnasgymnastics.comWe have something for everyone!“Educational Gymnastics at its BEST”Donna’s Gym-nastics Register now for term #3!HURRY classes start Monday, January 26th!Gym N’ LearnPerformance Show TeamsNOW HIRING!Newpaymentplansavailable!FUN FOR ALL AGES6 mos & up!

www.hap2it.com January 15, 2026 HAPPENINGS Page 11Whenever I'm in Greece, I don't leta sun go down without enjoying anice glass of ouzo. It's funny, because I don't even like the tasteof that licorice-flavored firewaterwhen I’m back home in the UnitedStates. But you can't experienceGreek culture without reallytasting it – from olives at breakfastto ouzo after dark. You don't drink ouzo straight;instead, you add ice or water, which turns the ouzo from clear tomilky white. When my waiterbrings my glass, I give him amelodramatic little show – artfullytrickling a few drops of water intomy ouzo, magically giving it amilky swirl. It’s a performance in aglass and suddenly, to him, I'm notjust another tourist. I'm a culturalchameleon, mastering a little sliceof the Greek life – indicating I'mready and rarin' for more. When Greeks really want to showhospitality, the drinking shiftsfrom ouzo to its wilder cousin, tsipouro. Similar to Italian grappa, this brandy-like liquor is about 40percent alcohol and makes ouzoseem like kid stuff. It’s the drink ofboisterous toasts, tall tales, andmeals that drag late into the night.Judging from my fuzzy photos, thelast time I had it… well, let’s justsay, it was a great example ofgoing extremely local. In Greece there's no better spot to\"go Greek\" than at the localtaverna. It doesn't matter if I'msnuggled into the car-free island ofHydra, perched above anuntrampled beach on the ManiPeninsula, or enjoying a tiny jointhiding in the shadow of Athens’Acropolis. When evening comes, taverna conviviality is what I'mafter. With their basic décor, ricketystools, and rustic tables, Greektavernas are humble at first glance. But after a few laughs and a fewdrinks, you realize how rich theyare in heritage, character, andcharm. Backgammon dice chatter,as do the wrinkled folks tossingthem. Worry beads click and clackas they’re threaded betweenfingers. Hand-rolled cigaretteshang tenuously from lips, andstray cats wait patiently to takeyour seat – and your dinner – ifyou dare abandon either.I like to grab a table in the middleof this action and order my ouzoand a plate of mezedes– with asmattering of dips, olives, andfeta-stuffed peppers – which is funto nibble on while I debate whichfresh seafood dish sounds righttonight. (At some seaside tavernas,my options are hanging right infront of me, ready to be thrown onthe grill.)Often, music becomes a part of theevening. Greeks love to dance.Popular dances include thegraceful kalamatianos circle danceand the syrtaki, done with armsoutstretched or thrown across oneanother's shoulders. While theseare popular for special events likeweddings and baptisms, I’ve foundpeople don’t need much of anexcuse to break out in dance…especially at a taverna with livemusic. (The ouzo helps.)Music is a part of everyday life inGreece. The traditional instrumenthere is a bouzouki. Wanderingthrough any town on a weekendsummer evening, I like to followthe happy sound of musicianssitting around an outdoor tableplaying traditional folk tunes onthis long-necked mandolin. Asnight descends, the crowd is readyto go bouzouki-crazy, and theouzo-fueled magic of the Greektaverna kicks into high gear. Opa!Going local by drinking local withthe locals isn’t just a Greek thing.Wherever you are in Europe, drinks are a fun and easy way tobecome a temporary European. When I’m in Tuscany, I drink afull-bodied red wine with dinner –but when I’m in the Cinque Terre,I order a glass of the dry, localwhite. When you aren’t sure whatto order, look around, point, andsay: “I’ll have what she’s having”.With that approach, rather thanjust another old-fashioned OldFashioned, you’ll be swirlingsangria in Andalucía, pouringsparkling water into pastis in thesouth of France, and sippingschnapps while perched high inthe Alps.Even if you don’t like the taste ofthe local beverage, order it to gowith the cultural flow. I may farprefer a cold pilsner, but if I’m at aye olde alehouse in England, youbet I’m asking for a roomtemperature cask ale. It follows a natural evolution ofexcitement while continuing the firstfilm's human threads. The Garrity familyand other survivors have lived in theGreenland bunker for five years since theClarke comet hit the Earth. They arerunning out of food and water, thoughstill seem to have plenty of makeup, butthe Hollywood glamour is forgivable. When the bunker collapses, it forcessurvivors to find a new safe haven. John(Gerard Butler), Allison (MorenaBaccarin) and their son Nathan (Roman Griffin Davis) join a group ofsurvivors who believe the south of France remained habitable post Clarke. The film really gets going again and moves briskly from peril to peril. Itmakes sense that Clarke has left the world in a precarious state. Sopressures on the earth would collapse the bunker, and dried up bodies ofwater have created precarious chasms to cross in high winds. More Clarkefragments could fall at any time, and often do. The disasters in theaftermath of Clarke are almost as brutal as the near-extinction event in thefirst movie. Leaders have to make tough calls when escape boats are atcapacity, and a tidal wave wipes out those left on the beach.Panic is as deadly a threat as the storms or violent contingents ofsurvivors, as many desperate survivors take others down with them. Theescape party gets whittled down with extreme prejudice, although onesenses it's likely the Garritys will make it to the end of the movie. That'sthe bargain we agree to in this genre, but the new characters have no suchhall pass.Survival is a base instinct that makes disaster movies easy to relate to, butthe Greenland movies strive to insert humanity into the peril. The Garrityskeep encountering enclaves of remnants of humanity, and the differentvariations of makeshift homes survivors have made are touching.Nathan sees the stars for the first time in five years while traversing theocean. But in the sky, another shooting fragment reminds the Garritys, and the audience, of the new normal. More environmental disaster, violentsociety or both then intrude. The crumbling of the social pact is a moreconventional facet of disaster movies, but no less relevant. The plot relieson some convenience and predictability towards the end, but it's notdisqualifying. www.hap2it.com January 15, 2026 HAPPENINGS Page 23Every year, Ilyce and Samoffer their readers New Year’sresolutions for home buyers, sellers and their personal finances. These are their thoughts on thehousing market and their HomeSeller Resolutions. For the past few years, homesellers have had it pretty good. The post-COVID-19 housingmarket was a seller’s paradise:homes flew off the market indays, buyers waived contingencies, and bidding wars were thenorm. Multiple offers? Check.Above asking price? You bet.But if you’re planning to sell in2026, it’s time for a reality check. The tide is turning.Nearly half of all sellers —42% to be exact — are now cutting their listing prices. Homesare sitting on the market for anaverage of 70 days, up from thelow 60s just months ago. And forthe first time in over two years, home prices nationally have gonenegative, down 1.4% in the lastthree months.Meanwhile, inventory is surging. As of this writing, active listings were up nearly 27% compared to a year ago and on trackto hit pre-pandemic inventorylevels. Translation: Buyers haveoptions again. And when buyershave options, sellers have towork harder.Don’t panic, though. Sellersare still making substantial profits — a median of $119,000, representing a 50.2% return on theiroriginal purchase price. That’snot too shabby. But those numbers are down from 2024, and thetrend is clear: The golden age forsellers is cooling off.So, what’s a home seller to do?The same thing buyers should do:make smart resolutions and stickto them. Here are our first fiveresolutions for home sellers:Home Seller Resolution No. 1:Price it right from day oneHere’s the hardest pill to swallow: Your home is worth whatsomeone is willing to pay for ittoday — not what your neighbor’s house sold for two yearsago. In today’s market, overpricingis the kiss of death. Homes thatsit accumulate “listing stink,” andbefore you know it, you’ve beenon the market for 112 days (thecurrent national average for stalelistings). Look at the data: 42%of sellers are already cutting theirprices.Work with your agent to pricecompetitively based on actualclosed transactions from the past90 days. If your agent suggests alower price than you’d like, listento them.Ilyce Glink is the author of 100Questions Every First-Time HomeBuyer Should Ask (4th Edition). She is also the CEO of BestMoney Moves, an app thatemployers provide to employeesto measure and dial downfinancial stress. Page 24 HAPPENINGS January 15, 2026 www.hap2it.com011526Home Seller Resolution No. 2:Accept that concessions are thenew normalRemember when buyers werelucky if you even looked at theiroffer? Those days are gone.In the first quarter of 2025,44.4% of sellers offered concessions — everything from coveringclosing costs to buying down ratesto repair credits. In some marketslike Seattle (71%) and Portland(64%), it was even higher.Buyers are stretched thin with6% mortgage rates and elevatedhome prices. Concessions mightinclude paying 2% to 5% towardclosing costs, buying down themortgage rate, offering a homewarranty, or providing repair credits. It’s better to offer strategic concessions than have your home sitfor months while carrying costspile up.Home Seller Resolution No. 3:Make your home shine (butdon’t overspend)With inventory at a five-yearhigh, buyers can afford to be picky. That popcorn ceiling or datedbacksplash might turn off buyerscomparing your home to three others in the same price range.Focus on essentials: deep cleaneverything, fresh paint in neutrals, fix obvious issues (leaky faucets, broken tiles), enhance curb appeal, declutter and depersonalize, andconsider professional staging(average cost: about $1,800, but itreduces days on market ).What you shouldn’t do:Undertake major renovations hoping to recoup every dollar. In asoftening market, over-improvingcan backfire.Home Seller Resolution No. 4:Be realistic about timingIf you don’t have to sell rightnow and your local market is softening, consider whether waitingmakes sense — or whether youshould move quickly before conditions worsen. The data shows regional variations. Northeast and Midwestinventory is still relatively tightwith faster sales. But Sun Beltmarkets (Florida, Texas, Arizona)are dealing with inventory buildupand price declines. Tampa, Austin,Dallas, and Phoenix have been hitparticularly hard.If you need to sell (job relocation, divorce, family changes),timing isn’t optional. But talk to atrusted local agent. National trendsare useful, but your neighborhood’s micro-market conditionsmatter more.Home Seller Resolution No. 5:Work with a top-tier agent (andlisten to them)The National Association ofRealtors says “91% of home sellers use a real estate agent —matching the highest percentageon record.” This surprises us.While selling in a shifting marketis complicated, there is so muchdemand it’s worth thinking aboutwhether selling by-owner is wortha try.In 2025, you need an agent whohas deep local market knowledge, can price correctly from day one,has a proven track record in challenging conditions, is an expertnegotiator, and understands modNew Year’s resolutions for sellerscontinued from page 23story continues on page 26HomesPlus.qxp_HAPPENINGS FULL AD TEMPLATE 1/13/26 2:53 PM Page 20

Page 26 HAPPENINGS January 15, 2026 www.hap2it.comern marketing (professional photos, virtual tours, strategic pricing).Make sure you interview at leastthree agents. Ask about recentsales, average days on market, andwhat percentage of list pricethey’re getting. Check onlinereviews. Once you’ve hired anagent, listen to their advice —they’re reading the market datayou’re not seeing.Home Seller Resolution No. 6:Understand the lock-in effect(and why it matters)While inventory is rising, it’sstill not back to healthy pre-pandemic levels in many markets. Onebig reason? About 75% of homeowners with mortgages have ratesbelow 6%— many locked in at 2%to 4% percent from 2020 to 2021.Research shows that for every percentage point below current rates, homeowners are 18.1% less likelyto sell.If you’re sitting on a 3% mortgage, calculate what your new payment would be at today’s 6% rates.Factor in selling costs (8% to 10%of the sale price, when you consider a 5% or 6% commission plusmoving expenses). Then ask yourself: Is this move worth it? Formany sellers, the answer is yes—life goes on. But go in with eyesopen about the true costs.Home Seller Resolution No. 7:Be prepared to negotiate (andnegotiate well)Gone are the days of “highestand best” deadlines. In 2026,you’re more likely to receive oneoffer — maybe two — and it mightcome in below asking price. Don’ttake it personally.Evaluate offers holistically: Isthe buyer well-qualified? Preapproved or just pre-qualified?What’s their earnest moneydeposit? What contingencies? How flexible is their timeline?Sometimes a lower offer withfewer contingencies and a strongbuyer beats a higher offer from ashaky buyer.Remember, everything is negotiable. If a buyer asks for $10,000in closing costs but you’ll only go$5,000, counter. If they want youto pay for a warranty, consider aprice reduction instead. If you needa longer lead time, ask for it. Findcreative ways to meet in the middle.Home Seller Resolution No. 8:Prepare for longer marketingtimesThe median days on market hascrept up to 70 days nationally, withsome homes taking 112 days orlonger.Plan accordingly: Keep yourhome in showing condition forpotentially months, be flexiblewith showing times (evenings, weekends, short notice), budget forcarrying costs (mortgage, utilities, insurance, taxes, homeowner association fees, maintenance), anddon’t panic-price-drop after twoweeks. If your home isn’t getting showings, that’s a pricing problem. In today’s market, that’s a lawsuit waiting to happen.Buyers are doing their due diligence — hiring inspectors, ordering surveys, checking permits, researching flood zones. If you tryto hide problems, they’ll find them, and you’ll either lose the deal orend up in court.Be up-front about past flooding, foundation issues, roof and HVACage, permit status for renovations,HOA issues or special assessments, and neighborhood concerns. Fulldisclosure protects you legally andbuilds trust with buyers.Home Seller Resolution No. 10:Understand your true net proceedsMany sellers focus on the saleprice and forget about costs thatcome out of it. Here’s what you’retypically paying: real estate agentcommission (4% to 6%), title insurance and closing costs (1% to 3%),mortgage payoff, prorated propertytaxes, HOA fees, repairs or concessions, moving costs, real estatetaxes that have yet to be paid, andpotential capital gains taxes (ifprofit exceeds $250,000 single/$500,000 married). On a $400,000 sale, you couldpay $32,000 to $40,000 in costsbefore your mortgage payoff. Youragent (or attorney, if you live in astate where attorneys are used toclose residential deals) should provide a seller’s net sheet breakingdown all expected costs and givingyou a realistic estimate of your proceeds.Home Seller Resolution No. 11:Stay informed about your localmarketNational trends are interesting, but your decision should be basedon what’s happening in your specific market. Is inventory up or downin your ZIP code? Are homes selling above or below asking? Howquickly? What’s the competition atyour price point?Follow local real estate news, check listing sites regularly, attendopen houses in your neighborhood, and stay in close communicationwith your agent. Markets can shiftquickly, and being informed helpsyou make better decisions aboutpricing, timing, and strategy. The bottom lineLet’s be clear: The sky isn’tfalling for home sellers. But theeffortless selling environment of2021 to 2023 is over. You’ll succeed if you price your home properly, are realistic and don’t getgreedy.New Year’s resolutions for sellerscontinued from page 26HomesPlus.qxp_HAPPENINGS FULL AD TEMPLATE 1/13/26 2:54 PM Page 23

His work did more than fill roomswith music,\" Chloe continued. \"It was warm sunlight that filled the soul, building a community, a language and a feeling of family thatgenerations of fans carry with them.\" She said, \"Every chord he played, every word he sang was an integral part of the stories he wove. Therewas an invitation: to feel, to question, to wander and to belong.\"While with the Grateful Dead, Weir and his bandmates combined folk, rock, blues and country music and became one of the first successfuljam bands that thrived on improvisation. They developed a loyal fanbaseof \"Deadheads\" who followed the band while it toured across thecountry, recording musical sets and trading or selling them with others. The band never had any No. 1 hits, but it won a Lifetime AchievementGrammy Award in 2007 and another for Best Boxed or Special LimitedEdition Package for its boxed set of Madison Square Gardenperformances that were recorded from 1981 through 1983. The request was made public byRubén Albarrán, a founding member and lead singer of the band, through a message posted on social media. Albarrán said he sent formalletters to Warner Music México and Universal Music México, which holdthe contractual rights to exploit the band's catalog, asking them towithdraw Café Tacvba's music from the platform. The musician said thedecision stems from a combination of factors, including the presence ofadvertising linked to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, investments associated with wars, royalty payments he described asunfair and meager, and the use of artificial intelligence tools that, in hisview, directly harm musicians' work. Café Tacvba was formed in Mexicoin 1989 and is widely regarded as a cornerstone of Spanish-languagerock. The band made history by becoming the first Latin American groupto record two albums in MTV's Unplugged format, a series that shapedyouth culture in Latin America for decades.Music News.qxp_My Turn 1-2H 1/13/26 11:02 AM Page 1

Page 30 HAPPENINGS January 15, 2026 www.hap2it.comJanuary 15, 2026through January 21, 2026ARIES (March 21-April 19): It’s a week in sunshine from the astro perspective, all week the day scores are above-zero, most days, well above. A desire to believe in something might lead you astray, do your homework before you jump in.TAURUS (April 20-May 20): Someone close may need you to believe in them as a needed love language now. A getaway could be what your soul needs, even for a few hours, see some new sights. If that’s not possible, log in to learn something new.GEMINI (May 21-June 20): When you believe in your mission and purpose, taking constructive action is as natural as breathing. Financial clarity could reveal new options for growth, decide on the best approach for the situation.CANCER (June 21-July 22): If you’re dating, it could be too easy to drink someone’s Kool-Aid now — observe actual patterns instead of blissfully sinking into fantasy. Committed partners could have a sexy evening.LEO (July 23-Aug. 22): You could be asked to stretch credulity past the snapping point, most likely in your home space. Decide what is worthy of your belief based on facts. However, the situation should resolve itself just fine.VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22): Creativity could be calling you, there are feelings inside you begging for expression. Another use of this exuberant energy would be playful sports activities with the focus on fun, not winning.LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 22): What you may want to believe may not be what is. Let wishful thinking pass and focus on the resources really in front of you — work with those. A focus on building foundation may continue for a bit..SCORPIO (Oct. 23-Nov. 21): Surrendering higher wisdom for fool’s gold isn’t likely the best path, search within for clarity and choose long-term goals over short-term dopamine. Juice your message with both energy and grace.SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21): Friends can offer each other understanding from intuition and experience, they can also be the port in your storm, or you can shelter them. Cash flow could be increasing; pay attention to good advice.CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19): Solidarity could be deeply needed now, bring understanding to someone or ask for it for yourself. A sense of standing together unites people so no one feels they stand alone. Bring all your magic into your day.AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18): Believing in the culture may be a job requirement, at least today, but the situation should be resource-rich enough to make this worthwhile. You are likely in a more inward phase for another week or so.PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20): Use careful discernment before buying in to a new thought leader, group, or set of beliefs, you could be more gullible than usual now.
