Greetings Friends of Downtown Kenosha, I wanted to start by saying on behalf of all Lakeshore Business Improvement District what an honor it is to find practical and tangible ways to help improve, beautify and bring a sense of community to our incredible downtown! As we look back on 2023 we wanted to share some of the great projects and events that we saw come together. We went under a massive rebranding process for the Lakeshore Business Improvement District (BID), to help establish and communicate a greater vision and mission as an organization. That process led to the creation of GO Downtown Kenosha. From this work, we were able to work with a local Graphic Designer, Anna Bauer, and local website developers at The Gratzi to relaunch a robust online presence that is available for people to learn about businesses, events, entertainment, and even job postings and commercial/ residential spaces available in the downtown district. BID also has worked closely with Carmichael Communications to produce this publication – the Downtown Kenosha Magazine with gorgeous covers and full color interior, more editorial content and business highlights, and photos to showcase all that is available to enjoy downtown. We had several major installation projects that make Downtown more visible and vibrant. From new bike racks to the beautiful banner project, and the additional decorative lighting throughout downtown to help create an ambiance here. To aid the beautification of downtown the BID formed a partnership with Soul Space, whose volunteers helped organize and staff two clean up days. BID is also working with a professional contractor to remove graffiti from buildings and fixtures. Events upon events are happening yearround! From the Bunny Hop to Lightin’ Up, Sip & Stroll, Small Business Saturday, Third Thursdays and many more, we invite you to come explore our lakefront destination. We are excited to continue to actively pursue ways of helping businesses and to make downtown an attractive and friendly place for people to congregate. Watch for updates about downtown developments, and new ways to get involved! The BID, event organizers, and business owners gladly welcome you to visit us in Downtown Kenosha this year! By Brit Windel Lakeshore Business Improvement District Board, President DayBreak Church, Pastor An Update from the Lakeshore Business Improvement District Sharon Rossow, owner of Copy Center, is a lifelong resident of Kenosha who has lived and worked in the BID district for most of her life. After growing up in the shop, she went on to work for other small businesses before starting to work with her father in 2007. After his passing in 2014, she became the owner of Copy Center. Continuing the business’ integrity and relationships with other businesses and organizations is how she honors the shop her parents started in 1973. She has continued the dedication her mother had to downtown, The Rhode Center for the Arts, Pollard Gallery, and the Bowls and Books Fundraiser. You can find Sharon usually at the shop during the week, running her booth selling upcycled VHS cover notebooks at Kenosha Public Market during the summer; and out and about with her constant canine companion, Buddy. Sharon fills the seat of James Matzur. Mr. Matzur is still a downtown property and business owner, and very supportive of local businesses in our community. We thank him for his service on the BID Board and wish him all the best with his new venture Fin & Ale on the very north end of the downtown area. Welcome to the B.I.D. Board!
