Several years ago, American Express launched a
marketing campaign to support local merchants. First
observed on November 27, 2010, AMEX debuted an
ad campaign encouraging customers to shop local, to
patronize locally owned businesses. It’s primary goal
was to encourage holiday shoppers to patronize local
brick-and-mortar businesses rather than big box
retailers and e-commerce stores.

We think it’s a great concept that not only deserves
attention throughout the year, and should be expanded
to include the many locally owned shops that are inte-
gral to our area, places that help make our community
a great place to live and raise a family. Unlike corporate
owned chain operations, when you choose to support a
locally owned business, you have assurances that those
hard earned profits remain in the community which
benefits us all.

We also benefit from the uniqueness and creativity that
originates from so many of our local business who spare
us from those cookie cutter shopping options.
Throughout the year we want to remind people of the
importance of supporting local businesses and their
owners who have chosen our community to live and do
business in. We can’t think of a better way than to
remind and encourage people to shop local.

Top Ten Reasons To Shop Local
