Auntie Clarine

Founder of Nobel International School

Dear students,

I would like to wrap up the academic year remembering
what you are truly made up of! Despite the many
changes and challenges that you experienced as we
resume back to the physical school setting, you have
bounced back to greater heights triumphantly! I am
extremely proud of both your academic and co-curricular
achievements.

To the Year 11s, I respect and admire you for your resilience and fortitude.
Your impressive accomplishments for the Malay and Mandarin IGCSE proved
to everyone that perseverance is the key to success. Students, as we occupy our
new building next year, let us continue to embrace the school’s core values and
incorporate them into our daily lives as we reach higher for meaningful
wholesome education. I look forward to embarking on a new journey together
with all of you in 2023.

“I cannot control everything that comes into my life. But I can
choose what I magnify.” - Steven Furtick

The experiences of the last two years transiting between learning
in class physically, learning online and learning through a
combination have brought about a lot of challenges to our lives and
taught us many valuable lessons.

Firstly, I had to understand what is within my control and what is
not and not to fret about those that are beyond my control. I was
reminded numerous times not to dwell on those negatives and choose my response
carefully. Steven Furtick remarked rightly that we have the choice to magnify the things
that come into our lives. Our choice will ultimately determine if we can grow and learn
positively. As a school, we must remember the need to take responsibility for our own
learning and take steps to improve, as these are things that are within our control, and
things that we can magnify.

Another lesson that I have learnt is to be grateful for the many things in life, and to
count them as my blessings. Charles Dickens, the renowned writer said:

“Reflect upon your present blessings—of which every man has many—not on your
past misfortunes, of which all men have some.” - Charles Dickens

He reminded us to have the right perspectives: to magnify our blessings and not our
past misfortunes. I count it my blessings to have the opportunities to meet with friends and
family and for us to come back to school physically.

So, as we end Year 2022 and look forward to the Year 2023, let us have the right
perspective, count our blessings, and work towards improving what we are currently able
to do!

God Bless,
Ms Chia Bee Yong

Ms Praveen

Principal of Junior & Senior

At Nobel International School, our focus is on nurturing global
citizens with noble hearts and noble minds by offering a wholesome
learning experience to each of our students. As the first dual-purpose
school in Malaysia, academic excellence sits at the heart of our
mission, supported by a system of positive psychology which
emphasizes wellbeing and character transformation.

In 2022, I am thankful for being able to welcome our students
back to school so they may continue their education with minimal
disruption. It is clear to see that face to face education is critical to the wellbeing of our
students based on my interactions with them since school reopened.

All our students continue to make us proud with their resilience, focus and dedication
to pursue their goals and perform their best. We wish our students in Year 11 well and look
forward to welcoming them back as alumni to share their experiences with the Nobel
community.

Learning outside the classroom is equally important and students are encouraged to
participate in community service projects. An example of this is the Fungates Superflow
Foundation established by our founding director Ms. Clarine Chun which has launched
many initiatives to ensure our Nobel community develops a strong sense of compassion,
empathy and gratefulness.

Despite all the headwinds, we have navigated through it all together and I would like to
thank our students, parents, teachers and staff for their continuous support and hard work
in ensuring our students received the best possible educational experience at Nobel
International School. The school will continue to support our community in all aspects to
the best of our ability and we look forward to a continued partnership with our students and
parents.

Best wishes,
Ms Praveen Kaur Shadaan

Dear Nobelians!! It's been a great pleasure and honor to serve the

I’ve been at Nobel for almost 7 years, and to be honest it has been a
wild roller coaster that ends on a good note! Being a leader with great
responsibilities is a journey I had never expected, and though it is scary
and uncertain at first, it is very rewarding and filled with joy! Plus,

Lee Kai Qi- Assistant Head Editor
Firstly, I want to thank my editorial board members for giving me
this honor to be the assistant chief editor. I'm really grateful for this

the sweetest and best partner I could ever ask for. Although my time
on the editorial board was short, I really enjoyed every single one!!
Everyone was very cooperative and contributed to every discussion,
our meetings are always fruitful. I would like to give a special

It has been such an amazing experience having been able to be a
part of this year’s editorial board because it is very motivating
as someone who loves art and design to be able to work on the
monthly issues where I can use my talents as well as meet other
people in school who share the same love for designing. Thank
you to all my teammates for working together to bringing
beautiful and fun issues to life every month! See you next year!

Being in this CCA has been quite a revealing experience for
me on how much effort it really takes to do a school
yearbook, or a magazine. Like I was running around the entire
school getting photos, managing spreadsheets and so on! It
really was tiring work and I also got to see and get to know a
few of my juniors, something that I barely did due to the
pandemic. And though some may be funny or responsible,
and others a bit more cringe, they all work hard all of them
have garnered my respect. p.s ty to Mr Loong and Ms Sam for
being really awesome teachers to work with.

Nobel Cup
15 July 2022

By Ngei Xin Yan (10 Courageous)
Sports are an integral part of our school life and there have been quite a number
of sports-related events within the school despite the challenges of Covid. Now, why
don’t we take a look at what has happened between the four houses this year?

On the 15th of July, we had our first Nobel Cup
in over two years. This event was held outside of
school where our year 10s and 11s played against
each other in several rounds in both captain ball and
basketball. Balls were thrown and bounced across the
courts, each team racing with each other squandaring
over the ball. The tension in the air was thick as our
students cheered, watched and played against each
other, and finally, after hours in the heat, Homerun
house emerged victorious above all others.

On the 20th to the 24th of June,
we had the four houses compete in
two different games per year. Ranging
from flipping bottles to searching for
marbles in ice, the students had a blast
competing against each other. After
much fierce competition, Homerun,
again, emerged victorious above the
other houses with Slamdunk being a
close second.

Basketball
By: Kai Lee & Yu Xin

The Nobel Basketball Team consists of
players who not only are the cream of the
crop, but are also students who represent
us in various sports competitions. It is led
by team captain Darren Lim and coach
Mr Wong. Meet the players and captains
behind the team.

Basketball is an extremely popular game, possessing a fast and thrilling pace of play
and involving much teamwork and stamina. To start off, we asked Captain Darren
Lim, about what the main goal of the team is. He replied that it was to win a game as
a school team while gaining experience and knowledge of basketball as individuals.
Though the group has yet to win a basketball match, they have put up a good fight
and are continuing to strive for victory, honing their skills through continuous
practice each time the hall is empty, even arriving at school on Saturdays to play.
Next, when asked about what he, as a leader, does when the basketball team lacks
motivation, the captain replies that though it can be difficult to lift up his team
members’ spirits, he tries his best to encourage their efforts and acknowledge their
skills in basketball, while acting as a good, positive role model. Lastly, here is an
inspiring word Darren has for his team: “the wolf climbing to the top is hungrier
than the wolf at the top.”

Chinese
Calligraphy

by: Sahaannaa & Yu Xin

Chinese calligraphy is a set of principles applied in writing

Chinese characters. And due to its special writing tool, a

calligraphy brush, Chinese characters carry artistic values

when different persons write using it in different ways.

This concept is different from the definition of

“calligraphy” from the western world which encourages

creativity. In Chinese calligraphy, the handwriting of a

person itself becomes a unique piece of art when the

principles of calligraphy are applied properly.

In Nobel International School, this is a new area to most

of the students. The interest in this activity is increasing

over the years even though limited events were

conducted under the restriction of MCO in the past two

years. Students started with learning the way of writing

a stroke to writing a character, and even to an extent of

writing a complete poem as the conclusion of their

learning demonstrated in producing a masterpiece

CHESS CLUB
C C A By: Kai Lee, Yu Xin

Chess, also referred to as the Game of Kings, has
a centuries-old legacy, this game of strategy,
structure and judgement booming in popularity
as the years go by. However, what are the
thoughts of the chess players themselves
regarding the game they have chosen as their
passion?
Firstly, we asked two members of the chess team-
Darren Tan and Lee Yu Jie- about what they
believe the main priority of chess is. They replied
that when playing chess, it is important to just
have fun and enjoy the game, as chess is a form
of delight first, and a competition second.
Furthermore, they mentioned that the most important aspect of chess is to be
alert and take time to make a decision.

After all, chess isn't about rushing and abandoning one’s critical thinking skills, but
rather about training the mind. To add, when asked about how the members feel when
faced with losses in a game, Darren and Yu Jie agreed that losing is simply a part of
learning, especially in a game of chess where it is crucial to improve from mistakes.
Due to this, determination is key to practicing chess, and if any of the members give
up, their fellow teammates are sure to encourage them.

All in all, the Nobel Chess Team is definitely one of the
prides of Nobel international School and in the future, it

is clear that they will continue to be so.
