04 Pathway Options

- On Pathways 1 and 2, students who gain a ‘D-grade/Merit’ or above at the end of Year 12 will proceed to Year 13. Other students will be reviewed to ensure the course is still suitable.

06 Outstanding facilities in a
dedicated post-16 learning
environment

We are a modern Sixth Form Centre with a state-of-the-art
design. The Lecture Theatre is a space to reflect, listen and
learn and is a fantastic facility for productions, music and
social events.

Our library is equipped with computers and our spacious
classrooms create great light areas to work in. The Sixth Form
Café provides the ideal social space to meet friends and get
involved with Newman social life.

Personalised pastoral care 07
and exciting self-development
opportunities

We offer a comprehensive programme of academic and personal
support. Form tutor sessions, individual mentoring and reviews
help our students reflect, challenge, progress and succeed. The
Progress Tutor will know each student as a unique individual
and is always there to congratulate, challenge and support.

Exciting self-development and leadership opportunities
include the Student Union, Academic Council, Debating Society,
Extended Project Qualification, Boys Rugby and Girls Football
Academies and the Volunteering Programme. A number of trips
are on offer including skiing, Houses of Parliament and even
extreme-sports in the Alps.

10 A highly successful Sixth Form
with excellent rates of progression

We have a long tradition of academic success and are
regularly the best state school Sixth Form in the city for
A-level results. We aim for every student to work hard, have
high personal expectations and succeed.

Our University and Employment Transition Programme
supports students on the next step of their journey.
This includes university tasters, open days and summer
schools, lectures from visiting speakers and employability
conferences. We engage in partnerships with a number
of top universities and employers. Last year there were
over 180 successful university and apprenticeship places
achieved, including successful Oxbridge applicants.
