Letter from the Headteacher
On behalf of the children, staff and Governors, I would like to thank you
for your interest in Brackenbury Primary School.
Brackenbury is a large, vibrant, welcoming school. Among our facilities is a computer
suite, art room, music room, hall for gymnastics as well as a larger hall used for
performances. We have several group teaching rooms used by specialist teachers
and a wonderful library.
We have a dedicated Early Years building housing our youngest children and facilities
for our before and after school childcare service. We are very proud of our school
and I look forward to welcoming you as part of the Brackenbury School community.

The Brackenbury Curriculum
We offer a very rich and varied curriculum filled with opportunities for all our children.
We follow the National Curriculum and make meaningful links between subject areas. This
curriculum includes the core subjects, English, Mathematics, Science and Computing. History,
Geography, Design and Technology, Music, Art, French and Physical Education, are also taught.
In addition, the curriculum includes Personal, Health, Social Education and Religious Education
which is taught in line with the local authority agreed syllabus. The curriculum is enriched with
many visitors and workshops; these enhance all aspects of learning. The children make regular
visits to sites of interest in London. We also hold themed weeks and days within the year that
support particular aspects of the curriculum including arts week and book week. The school
also provides an extensive and exciting range of clubs for the children.

Teaching and Learning
At Brackenbury we aim for our children to be happy and successful learners
using a wide variety of teaching and learning strategies that take account
of all children’s different abilities and needs.
The staff are very committed and each class teacher is supported by a teaching
assistant. This helps to ensure that the children develop strong and secure relationships
to support their learning. Consequently, standards at Brackenbury are above the national
average and the progress that children make is very high.
Where a child is identified as having particular needs, teachers liaise with the
Inclusion Manager or English as an additional language teacher to identify strategies
to support them in their learning.

my son, and he has been making
up different types of poems
non-stop at home.”

“The proportion of pupils working
at greater depth exceeds the
national average, this is especially
shown in writing and mathematics
and constitutes a strength.”

Care and Support
We believe that the welfare, care and safety of our children are of utmost
importance in order for children to be successful learners and develop
as responsible citizens of the future.
We encourage children to make healthy choices and are accredited as being a ‘Healthy
School’. We are an inclusive school and strive to ensure that all children have equality
of opportunity in accessing all aspects of school life regardless of gender, ability, race,
religion or background. We offer extended care for our children through our onsite
breakfast club that runs from 8am. We also provide after school and holiday childcare
facilities on site until 6.15pm.
