WELCOME TO SARUM ACADEMY
“Improving the life chances of young people.”
Situated on the Western edge of the medieval city of Salisbury, overlooking the stunning views
towards the West Wiltshire Downs and the surrounding villages, Sarum Academy is an 11-18
church school. Our pupils come from a wide geographical area, not only from within the city
but also its rural outskirts.
We are proud to be an inclusive academy which places the care and achievement of our
young people at the heart of everything we do. We want out pupils to become highly
skilled, confident, articulate young adults, well placed to succeed in further education and
employment, and emerge as active members of the community.
All of our staff have high expectations and are committed to helping pupils achieve and
succeed. Pupils tell us they enjoy their time in school with many choosing to enter our thriving
Sixth Form after their GCSE studies in Year 11.
I invite you to experience Sarum Academy for yourself: come and meet our delightful,
hardworking pupils and dedicated teaching and support staff team.
“My child feels valued and is well
looked after. They are challenged
academically and enjoy school. Staff
are friendly and approachable and
listen to parents views.”

EVERY PUPIL VALUED
RESPECT: ASPIRATION: EXCELLENCE: SERVICE:
TENACITY: PARTNERSHIP
At Sarum Academy we value the contribution every child makes to our school. Our aim is to leave
no child behind. We pride ourselves on being a caring school, and as a small secondary school,
getting to know and serving the needs of our pupils. Pupils take a real pride in their appearance,
their work and their efforts. Pupils with special educational needs are well supported in the
Academy by an experienced team of trained staff.
We are proud of the ethos we have created at Sarum Academy, one where pupils support and
encourage one another to succeed, where it is ‘cool’ to do well. We want pupils to feel positive and
motivated when they are in school’ this way they are more likely to be successful pupils, aware of
their responsibilities and able to contribute positively to society.
“Parents feel that their
children are kept safe and
are well looked after.”

RELENTLESS AMBITION
The Academy is relentless in its ambition to provide an
outstanding individualised educational experience for all
its pupils, enabling pupils to leave the academy with the
qualifications, experiences and personal qualities necessary to
fulfil life long ambitions.
Sarum Academy is a place where there are no forgotten children. How would you feel if the day
passed by without acknowledgement or a smile from another adult or a friend. We are a school
where the individual is recognized and where all pupils, no matter what their prior learning,
their perceived ability or their home circumstances, are expected to achieve, are part of a can-do
culture and ultimately of course, are successful.
Pupils are tutored in Year groups and taught in a combination of set groups in English, Maths,
Science and Humanities and in mixed ability groups in vocational subjects.
Many Year 11 pupils chose the Sixth Form to continue their study. This is their stamp of approval
in recognition of the high quality of teaching they receive and an appreciation of the care and
support they are afforded.
“I am pleased with my
child’s progress and the
help she has received.”

AN INSPIRATIONAL ENVIRONMENT
The facilities within the academy are truly outstanding.
Sarum Academy enjoys modern, innovative accommodation
which boasts breath-taking views of the surrounding Wiltshire
countryside and inspires its learners.
Spacious interactive classrooms clustered around welcoming open plan areas sit alongside
fully equipped vocational workshops, laboratories and extensive sports and performance
facilities. Our pupils can enjoy award winning catering provision in a traditional Dining Hall.
Sixth Form pupils occupy their own dedicated space but integrate with all members of the
Academy as role models to our younger pupils.
A dedicated Pupil Services reception area allows pupils to access day to day help and service
with a smile. Our open library encourages pupils to access books and enjoy a love of reading.

HAPPY AND SUCCESSFUL
Sarum Academy provides a relevant, vibrant curriculum, with
educational activities that are both enjoyable and applicable
to real life, equipping our young people for the world in
which we live.
Our core purpose is to provide pupils with excellence in the classroom. Pupils are supported by
qualified and experienced teaching staff. Interests and ambitions, knowledge and understanding,
skills and competence take centre stage in curriculum planning, ensuring the best possible
experience for young people. Teaching staff are passionate about their fields of expertise and take
great pride in nurturing these interests in others.
We want pupils to enjoy school and have fun which is why we place a great emphasis on school
life beyond the classroom. A pupil might not directly get better results by playing sport, by being
in a school production, by performing in assembly, by being in the School Council, by being a
Prefect, going abroad, singing in assembly, winning the Karaoke challenge, or going to an Art club
or by doing the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, but at least they will be in school for longer and they
will be happier and therefore more likely to be successful. This is what builds memory’s.
“There is a sense of
fun and excitement in
lessons. Pupils and staff
get on well together.”
