04 Pathway Options

Pathway Academic Entry Post-16 Courses Available Options for students after
Options Requirements at Newman College completing pathway

Pathway 1+ 6 or more A*-C/9-4 GCSE grades Four A-level courses - Foundation or Degree (Level 4)
mainly at Grade B/6/Merit (or BTEC Level 3 courses) for those courses in Higher Education
(2 years) or above and including either students with mainly A*-A or 9-8 grades. (e.g. University via UCAS).
Mathematics or English
Pathway 1 Language at Grade 4 or above Three A-level courses - Start Level 3 or 4 courses at
(only one BTEC grade may (or BTEC Level 3 courses) + re-take other institutions.

NOTE:
- A student’s qualifications may not always fit exactly with the entry requirements for these 2 pathways. Professional judgement and appropriate “Information,
Advice and Guidance (IAG)” based upon the student’s personal circumstances will dictate which choice of pathway is then most suitable for the student.
- On Pathway 1, a student must also meet the specific entry requirements advised for particular A-level courses as listed in the Curriculum Guide.
- On Pathways 1 and 2, students who gain a ‘D-grade/Merit’ or above at the end of Year 12 will proceed to Year 13. Other students will be reviewed to ensure the course is still suitable.

Newman College is a modern Sixth Form Centre with a
state-of-the-art design. The Lecture Theatre is a space to
reflect, listen and learn and is a fantastic facility for school
productions, music and social events.

The well-stocked library is equipped with the latest technology
and our spacious classrooms create great light areas to work
in. The Sixth Form Café provides the ideal social space to meet
friends and get involved with Newman social life.

opportunities

Newman College is a Catholic Sixth Form Centre which offers a
comprehensive programme of academic and personal support.
Form tutor sessions, individual mentoring and reviews help
students reflect, challenge, progress and succeed. The Progress
Tutor will know each student as a unique individual and is
always there to support, challenge and congratulate.

Exciting self-development and leadership opportunities include
the Debating Society, Student Union, Academic Council,
Extended Project, Boys Rugby and Girls Football Academies.
A number of trips are on offer including skiing, Houses of
Parliament and even extreme-sports in the Alps.

10 A highly successful Sixth Form
with excellent rates of progression

We have a long tradition of academic success and have
regularly been the best school Sixth Form in the city for
A-level results. We aim for every student to work hard, have
high personal expectations and succeed.

Our University and Employment Transition Programme
supports students on the next step of their journey. This
includes university taster days, open days, summer schools,
lectures and visiting speakers. We engage in partnership
with a number of top universities. Last year there were
over 170 successful university and apprenticeship places
achieved, including nine successful Oxbridge applicants.
