got parts?

No?! Check out DMC’s Budget Restoration Program!

Our clients love it, and our competitors hate it. The DeLorean Motor Company (Texas) Budget Restoration Program
(BRP) is the way to save money on everything you buy for your DeLorean. The intent of the B.R.P. is to allow DeLorean
owners who may not be able to complete a full restoration all at one time still get the parts they need to complete
a restoration over time. By spreading out their purchases over the course of twelve months, the project is then much
more manageable.
To be eligible for the B.R.P., an initial purchase of $1500.00 of DeLoreans parts/accessories at regular prices from
DeLorean Motor Company is required. This registers you in the B.R.P. for a period of 12 months from the date of the
initial purchase, future purchases will be discounted by 10%.

Limitations and exclusions apply as follows:
1. DeLorean Motor Company "kits" are not eligible for a discount, as they are already discounted from regular price. However, you are encouraged to purchase the kits as a part of
your initial $1,500 purchase.
2. Purchases in excess of the factory stated number of required parts (per the parts manual) will not be eligible for the discount (i.e., three hoods, etc.)
3. Discounts are not applicable with any other specials, promotions or discounts that may be offered in the future. The BRP is subject to modification and/or cancellation at any time.

More reproduction parts coming this Autumn...
Steering Rack, Door Locks, Headlight Switch

New Steering Racks

DMC (Texas) is nearing completion of their latest reproduction part project - the long unavailable steering rack.
Originally manufactured specifically for the DeLorean, new old stock (NOS) racks have been unavailable for many years.

Armed with an unused, new, original steering rack and a set of the factory engineering drawings, bids were solicited
for the manufacture of reproduction racks, boots and tie-rod ends.

As this issue went to press, samples were installed in DeLoreans on company cars at DMC’s suburban Houston facility
and advanced testing was continuing. Results to date have been very favorable, prompting DMC (Texas) Stephen Wynne
to remark, “it’s very likely the DeLorean community will have the option of a new steering rack at the $300 price point
by the end of the year.”

New Door Lock Cylinders

The scarcity and high prices of replacement door locks is
now over. Newly available from DMC (Texas), “late-style”
one-key door lock cylinders make upgrading from the
flawed (see deloreans, V2N4) early style door locks easy
and inexpensive. These new locksets are available keyed
to your existing ignition, or with a new set of keys at a
lower price.

Headlight Switch Success

On August 31st, 2005, DMC (Texas) announced that
it\’b4s innovative Headlight Switch Pre-Order program
had been successful, with a total of 268 pre-paid orders
received for the reproduction headlight switch. With sup-
port from more than 150 DeLorean owners all around the
world, as well as all the major DeLorean parts vendors,
the success of this program may lead to other part being
reproduced in this manner.

Reproduction headlight switches are expected to be
available in December of 2005.

Performance Suspension Kit

DMC (Texas) is pleased to announce their new performance shock and spring package. Designed and developed in the United
Kingdom by one of the finest suspension engineering companies in the world, this is the only modern, complete shock and spring
package designed for use on the DeLorean automobile. These new springs, manufactured by Eibach, and the new shocks offer better
handling and a better balanced ride by making the front springs softer and the rear springs stiffer which compensates for the unique
weight distribution of the DeLorean.

In addition to improving the handling performance, this package improves the appearance of the car by lowering the rear about
3/4” and lowering the front between 1” and 4” depending on how “nose high” the car sits before installation. This balanced package
of front and rear springs and shocks makes the car level, nearer to the original specification of between 5” and 5 1/2” of from the
front/rear crossmembers and the ground. The new rear shocks feature a threaded adjustable collar to achieve the a perfectly level
ride height, as well. The availability of this affordable new package means that no longer will DeLorean owners be forced to use
modified shocks because proper ones weren’t available or were too expensive.

2005
OPEN HOUSE EVENT

The 2005 DMC Open House Event was my first DeLorean
event, and a new cultural experience for me. Since I
worked on some of the organizational, marketing and
decorative aspects of the event, I was involved with the
attendees (in a sense) from the beginning. By the time
everyone arrived, I felt as if I already knew them! The
DeLorean community is a varied group of people, all very enthusi-
astically involved with their DeLoreans. I thought it was great fun
to be with these people in their element.

Friday dawned, and we were making our final preparations as the Registration at the Sofitel
film crew from Creative Differences had arrived to film a docu-
mentary at the event. They were busy setting up alongside us as
we made ready the finishing touches before the attendees arrived.
Registration started at the Sofitel Hotel at 2pm and we were ready!
Elaine Wynne (DMC, Texas), Robin Thevenot (DMC, Texas), Liz
Ierardi (DMC, Florida), Diane Rice (DMC, Florida), Rose Ballard, Julie
Swilley and I headed over to the hotel to set up for registration.

Once the flow was established, I returned to DMC Headquarters to
work with Jerry Williamson and Dixon Hollinshead on the visual
part of their presentation. It was quite an education for me. As
I was scanning slides, Jerry and Dixon were reminiscing about
the heyday of DeLorean Motor Company – who was who and the
dynamics of the organization itself. Each picture had a story, and
traveling with them on their journey was like being an insider
watching it happen.

It was Friday evening and the presentation was getting ready to Bill Collins, Dixon Hollinshead, Jerry Williamson
start. The final polishing and preening of Proto1 was demanding
the attention of the staff – Stephen Wynne was on the floor under

DiNicola (DMC, Texas), Steve Finberg (DMC, Florida) polishing every
crevice. James Espey (DMC, Texas) then covered Proto1 with a
black cloth for a dramatic unveiling during the presentation.

As the crowd arrived and seated themselves in a semi-circle around Stephen Wynne and Nick DiNicola working on Proto1
the shrouded Proto1, Bill Collins was preparing to give his presenta-
tion. The tension was high and the lights were low as James Espey 11
introduced Bill Collins and simultaneously uncovered Proto1, with
much applause from the attendees. Bill had been Chief Engineer at
Delorean and proved to be an excellent speaker. He came prepared
with great slides to visually augment his talk. One could almost
feel the excitement the dealers and investors must’ve felt when
they watched the marketing presentation. The creation of the DMC
logo, the DSV, ERM, softwood models, tooling and aero-dynamics
were all topics in the presentation, all told by the man primarily

mated conversation between people that were old friends and

midst of the activity as if it were newly made.
Meanwhile, back in the shop, the Millennium Concours entries
were being worked to perfection. Each crew applied elbow grease
and dedication, concentration etched on their foreheads as they
worked into the night. The other attendees went back to the
Sofitel to relax and enjoy a good night’s sleep.
The Concours entries were ready to resume working early the
next morning, and worked until the last second before judging
was to commence. No one said it was easy! Concours judging got
started early Saturday morning, with the tired Concours contes-
tants finally getting some down time. “There are very strict and
numerous criteria for judging these special cars,” Knut Grimsrud
explained to me. “It is a very time-consuming and careful process
to determine the winner. The manner of judging appears to be as
objective as humanly possible.” (See sidebar article).
The attendees arrived on Saturday morning and the agenda was
set. Each attendee was in put in a group – indicated on their
I.D. badges, and the events were set up so that there would be
an even distribution of people. Lunch was served for everyone
at the same time, and there was lively conversation everywhere.
Warren Wallingford, my office next-door neighbor and your
friendly tech and parts guy, was kept busy all day writing orders
for many attendees when they saw the array of parts specials and
goodies for their DeLoreans offered for sale.
Some groups went with Stephen Wynne for a technical seminar,
some toured the warehouse with James Espey, and still others
were enjoying their free time conversing, voting on their People’s
Choice favorite, examining the Millennium Concours cars and
buying parts.
During the seminars, I was still working with Jerry and Dixon

Commemorative Plaque for Dunmurry Factory DeLorean Millennium Concours and it’s Origin

Johhy Carson sitting in the 2nd prototype The Millennium Concours was originally developed and
created by James Espey at DeLorean Motor Company,
Ground breaking ceremony for the Dunmurry Factory (Texas) and the program was debuted at the DOA
DeLorean Expo in St. Louis MO in the fall of 1999. This
14 year’s concours was held at the DeLorean Motor Company,
(Texas) Open House and was the 8th Millennium Concours
competition andthe first Millennium Concours to be
organized and operated by the new Concours committee.

The program is now jointly sponsored by the premier
DeLorean service centers, including DeLorean Motor
Company, (Texas), P.J. Grady, and DeLorean Motor Center.
These changes have resulted in the concours enjoying a
broader support from a number of jointly sponsoring ven-
dors. The new Concours management team consists of Knut
Grimsrud, Marty Maier and Dave Swingle in addition to a
representative from each sponsoring company.

There was sharp competition this year, with what Knut
Grimsrud called, ”the finest line-up of cars ever assem-
bled.” Dave Swingle wrote that, “All of the cars which
were entered in the Concours competition were in unbe-
lievable condition.”

The judging for the event spans 6 separate categories, with
a judge and assistant judge for each category, making a
total judging staff of 12 for the event. In addition there
are two scorers that track the results in preparation for
the awards announcements that evening. The 6 judged
categories are:

• Operating controls (all in working order)
• Exterior condition, appearance, fit & finish
• Interior condition, appearance, fit & finish
• Undercarriage condition, appearance
• Luggage compartment condition, appearance
• Engine compartment condition, appearance

The criteria for judging is that the car should look as it
rolled off the assembly line at the most perfect moment in
it’s creation. Emphasis is placed on originality, condition
and appearance of all items on the car. The meticulous
judging requires about three hours for each car. To insure
the most objective judging possible, the same category is
judged by the same judges across the entire set of cars.
The placement of the cars was as follows:

1st place, Kris Smith, (TX)
2nd place, Ken Koncelik, (OH)
3rd place, Robert Bowman, (GA)
4th place, Sandor Piszar, (MI)
The 9th upcoming Millennium Concours is to be held

years if they’re original. They’ve rusted and become brittle Fig 14
and often grown to the aluminum. Unless the m11 socket
is on absolutely straight, he stud can easily break when
you attempt to loosen the nut (FIG. 10). To make this
as unlikely as possible, use penetrating oil liberally and
warm th engine briefly before attempting to remove the
manifold. With the catalyst and the crossover pipe out of
the way, you should be able to get straight on the nuts
on the driver’s side. You may want to remove the oil filter
and starter on the right side to increase access and swing
room. When the nut and studs are all hot and greasy,
they should come away from the head in some manner,
freeing the exhaust manifolds and exposing the ports. The
Exhaust Gasket Kit contains twelve M7 studs, enough to
replace all the exhaust studs. Any stud that has snapped
must be removed from the head. This can be done with a
variety of methods. If you are going to use and Easy-Out
(TM) or drill and re-tap (FIG. 11), a one-eighth inch pilot
hole in the bery middle of the stud fragment is absolutely
necessary (FIG. 12). When this is accomplished, all is pos-
sible. The reported ease of a melt-and-blow inceneration
using MAP gas is tempting at this point. If you are so
equipped and have confidence in the method, go for it.

Once all of the studs have een replaced and the head
surface is cleaned, the rest of the job is all downhill. Be
sure that the manifold ports are clean and flat. Test the
manifold for level by putting it on the floor, face down,
and standing on it. If it rocks back and forth or if the
middle part doesn’t hit the floor, you will need to have it
milled flat. If any of the M10 studs are damaged, replace
them now. Hang the new gaskets, individually, on the
studs for each port (FIG. 13). You can use a little grease
to paste them on the head if they want to slide off (FIG.
14). Put the manifold on over the studs and instally new
thick washers and nuts. Torque the nuts onto the studs
to 25 ft-lbs. Put the crossover pipe gaskets on the mani-
folds, maneuver the pipe over the transmission and slip it
onto the manifold studs. Install the M17 copper nuts and
washers onto the studs and tighten to 30 ft-lbs. Reinstall
the muffler, brackets, and heatshield, reversing the order
of removal.

When the engine is first started, there will be smoke from
the manifolds and exhaust pipes, but no extra noise. After
all the lubricants that you used burn off, your twenty-five
year old DeLorean should sound like a new one.

Brake Master Cylinder

It’s the Right PART!

The original Girling DeLorean brake master cylinders were internally proportioned at 62% and 38%, to compensate
for the weight distribution of the DeLorean. These have been unavailable for years.
The common aftermarket replacement, which everyone (including ourselves) have been forced to use has 50/50 pro-
portioning. Not at all ideal and certainly not best for braking performance. To those who have driven cars equipped
with both, there is a significant difference. The DeLorean community has been forced to use these incorrect brake
masters for years because that is all that is all that was available...until NOW!
DeLorean Motor Company (Texas) has had the original Girling-style 62/38 proportioned brake master cylinders repro-
duced. In doing so, we were able to dramatically lower the price by more than 50%, to $124.95. When you need
one, remember that the correct ones are only available from your full-service DeLorean parts vendors. #105543

EUROFEST 2006

by Robert Lamrock

No fewer than fifteen countries from throughout Europe
and North America will be represented next year at the
biggest international DeLorean event ever. For many
of the DeLorean owners and enthusiasts one of the
highlights of Eurofest 2006 (May 25th thru 28th) will
undoubtedly be a return visit to the birthplace of the
famous gull-wing.

Tony Ierardi DeLorean Motor Company (Florida) intends Factory Assembly Line - Nick Sutton photo
to drive his invaluable refurbished Prototype One around
the test track at the factory in Dunmurry where former
DeLorean employees will be on hand to give expert advice.
An overhead helicopter will supply excellent photo
opportunities of the entire scene and George Crane and
his team will provide guided tours of the hallowed walls
where it all began 25 years ago.

Delegates to Eurofest 2006 are not just buying into an
event – they’re buying into a piece of history. In fact the
whole DeLorean saga has been compared to the story of
the Titanic that was also built in Belfast. Incidentally, it’s
planned to visit the dock where the ship was built! Ireland
has a warmth and richness in character all of it’s own and
there will be an exclusive chance to see Hillsborough
Castle, Dunluce Castle and Parliament Buildings.

But enough of the tourist trappings let’s get back to the Cars and Chassis - Jim McCauley photo
serious DeLorean stuff. An original factory training video
has recently been discovered along with other rare foot-
age of John and the cars – this is ‘a world premiere’ you
won’t want to miss! And there’s another first – former
employees will be mounting an exhibition of DeLorean
memorabilia that has never been on Ebay!

Alistair McCann will display his pre-production Pilot 25
car alongside many other DeLoreans - including a 24k
gold plated one!

The DeLorean Owners Association in partnership with Gold Car and Special Crew - Nick Sutton photo
the DeLorean Owners in Ireland intend to make this 25th
anniversary a landmark event that will be remembered
for years to come. John DeLorean won’t be there but his
dream and spirit still live on.

and sons. Jason and I got to know each other really well doing
this work-in-progress.
What is your “daily driver”?
I am fortunate to have a selection of cars to choose from, but
soon, the DeLorean will be my daily driver exclusively... well,
almost exclusively. On poor weather days, I will drive a banger
of some sort and keep the DeLorean in the garage. It has taken
too long to get it nice and there are too many crazy drivers out
there who can’t drive in the rain, or snow... or dry!
What are your other hobbies/interests?
Automobiles and my practice are my main hobbies and focus
at this time. I try to throw in some travel, snow skiing and
working out.
Usually if I am not in the garage working on something, I am
