As mentioned last week, books from Master Point Press are typically available in Q 10 5 3 9872 KJ4
standard book form or as a PDF computer file that you can open and read or print.

Strangely, given how useful it is, “Should I or Shouldn’t I?” by Marc Smith, which runs AKQJ5
to 241 pages, is in PDF format only. The well-written book, as an addendum to the title AK92
points out, covers the difficult subject of drawing trumps in suit contracts. J6

How quickly should South draw trumps in this seven-spade deal after West has led the
diamond eight? Dealer: South; Vulnerable: East-West

North’s four-heart response was a splinter bid announcing at least game-going values in The Bidding:

to seven. SOUTH WEST NORTH EAST OPENING

7 Spades Pass Pass Pass
Here, South has 12: five spades, two hearts, four diamonds and one club. So he needs
only one ruff in the dummy for his 13th winner. This means that declarer, after taking the
first trick with his diamond jack (honor from the shorter side first), can immediately draw
three rounds of trumps and claim.

If he starts with the heart ace and a heart ruff, East overruffs the dummy, gives West a
diamond ruff and receives a second ruff for down three.

Apart from Master Point Press, books may be purchased from Baron Barclay Bridge
Supplies (baronbarclay.com) and The Bridge World (bridgeworld.com).

claims, “goes hand-in-hand with or-

One of those in-practice examples is
VO&N’s own CEO Jenn Davison.

While asking any woman about her
weight is probably still a social taboo,
the 5-foot-1 Davison blithely volun-
teers that information.

“I was 142 pounds starting in Au-
gust of last year,” exclaims Davison,
“and now I’m down to 120 pounds.
So I’ve lost 22 pounds. It’s changed
my life for good. I’ll never go back to
eating the way I was before because
I feel 10 times better, my inflamma-
tion I feel has gone down significant-
ly, I have more energy, I feel a little
bit more active and for me it’s been a
great health change.”

In fairness, bariatric weight loss sur-
gery can and does routinely produce
even greater weight loss in even less
time, but as Hill quickly points out, “I
had a couple patients who would prob-
ably have benefited from the bariatric
surgery, but they didn’t qualify within
terms of their insurance.”

Other patients, Hill and Davison
agree, simply don’t want to face back-
to-back weight-loss and hip or knee
replacement surgeries.

Moreover, the two contend, the ITG
diet can produce long-lasting results.

As Davison puts it, “I’ve seen plenty
of people who can drop 50, 60 pounds
in a six-month period, but then you
look at them a year out, they’re up
60 or 70 pounds. I don’t really care

cause it’s harder on our bodies to
drop weight and re-gain weight, and
with ITG not only are we getting you
to drop your weight, but we’re teach-
ing you healthy, manageable lifestyle
changes that you can maintain.”

To aid in that plan, VO&N monitors
its ITG patients with weekly phone
calls and offers a special email ad-

DINING REVIEW

First Bites: Post & Vine joins 14th Avenue dining scene

BY TINA RONDEAU
Columnist

After a long wait, Post & Vine has
debuted as the newest addition to the
14th Avenue dining and drinking scene
– and a number of Vero residents al-
ready seem enthusiastic about its re-
laxed bistro vibe.

Headline news: The food is good,
but this isn’t exactly fine dining. The
casual ambiance is as much of the at-
traction as the food here. Come wear-
ing a sports jacket, or come in shorts.
Post & Vine offers a variety of tempting
appetizers to enjoy with a cocktail, beer
or glass of wine; salads, sandwiches or
burgers if you’re in the mood for some-
thing light; and a short list of tasty,
well-executed entrées for those seeking
a full-meal.

Look & Feel: The outdoor dining
area is what makes Post & Vine unique.
While other restaurants have most of
their dining area inside, with small
courtyards or patios, the spacious cov-
ered deck that opens out from the bus-
tling bar area is where most of Post &
Vine’s dining will take place. There’s
nothing else quite like this in Vero.

According to Banov, “It was really a
personalization more than anything.
It doesn’t always work when you jux-
tapose two really different styles,
but we were able to keep the sweep-
ing staircase with the rod-iron metal
work and the fireplace that gives the
home a nice warm feeling.”

At the front of the house, the porti-
co draws the eye to the looming front
door, which opens into a two-story
foyer wrapped by a sweeping stair-
case of rod iron and wood. The foyer
leads to a formal living room with
arched transoms and a fireplace giv-
ing enhancing the unobstructed view
of the river.

Throughout the house, the rooms
feature modern light fixtures that
are works of arts themselves, adding
warmth and a touch of contempo-
rary style to the original traditional
decor. Ceiling details, custom mold-
ing, arched doorways, tray and cof-
fered ceilings add to the understated
elegance of the home.

You pay interest-only for a preset pe-
riod, at which point your outstanding
balance comes due. Or the HELOC
morphs into full amortization mode,
requiring payments of principal plus
interest.

Here’s an example of current HE-
LOC terms from an active lender,
TD Bank: Your house is valued at
$400,000, you’ve got a $200,000 bal-
ance on a first mortgage at 3.25 per-
cent that you snagged when rates
were near historic lows. Assuming
you’ve got solid credit, you might
qualify for a $100,000 HELOC at an
annual percentage rate (APR) of 3.99
percent, with monthly interest-only
payments of $327.95.

Looks good. But there are complica-
tions: If you want to use that $100,000
for anything other than home im-
provement or purchase, your interest
payments won’t be deductible under
new tax rules. Also, with the Federal
Reserve planning to ratchet up inter-
est rates, your interest costs probably
will increase.

Cash-out refinancing. This involves
replacing your current first mortgage
with a larger one, allowing you to
pocket the additional funds. A down-
side here: The loan you exchange your
precious 3.25 percent rate for is likely
to cost at least one percentage point
more than your current loan. And you
should check with your tax adviser
on what precisely may be deductible
if your new total debt exceeds the
amount of your original mortgage.

Here’s an example of a $100,000
cash-out refi using the same scenario
