The end of power dressing: What to wear in a new work era
BY LISA ARMSTRONG
The Telegraph
Even if you’re in the throes of job
hunting and fretting about how best to
communicate your charm, efficiency
and resourcefulness, power dressing is
not the way to go. It was on its way out
long before the pandemic. Peak PD was
early 1990s – big hair, big shoulders,
faux Chanel jacket, or the real thing if
you could afford it, plus big heels. In
essence it was a version of male execu-
tive attire perched, for a laugh, on top
of a pair of three inch heels.
Some of these power accoutrements
are back on the virtual catwalk. Of
course they are. Last week Michael
Kors advised the 51 percent: “La-
dies, you’ve got to practice walking
in heels again.” Over at Burberry,
Riccardo Tisci also showed sky-
scrapers for the foot in his autumn
collection – and swore to me they
were comfortable. “No one will put up
with being uncomfortable anymore,”
he says. “But I think so many of us can’t
wait to dress up again.”

OSCARS: STYLISH STARS SPARKLE ON RED CARPET
Having been postponed by two months due to the pandemic, the 93rd
Academy Awards took place Sunday across multiple venues: the first venue was
at Union Station in Los Angeles, and the second at Dolby Theatre, where the
ceremony normally takes place.
A smaller London-based hub in the U.K. had also been created, with an en-
semble of presenters on hosting duties.
Organizers informed guests last month that Zoom participation (which as
been popular among previous awards ceremonies in light of the pandemic)
would be limited, and guests were encouraged to attend the intimate event if
possible. A dress code of ‘a fusion of the inspirational and aspirational’ was
set, and with guests attending in person, it meant that glamorous red carpet
looks were back on the cards.
As these pictures indicate, some of the star-studded looks were great – but
the Oscars were not quite as fabulous as pre-pandemic. Hopefully, next year.

the most notable type of historical

handsome commercial buildings and
many beautiful homes.

Prominent examples of the style in
Vero Beach include the Farmers Bank

the Theatre Plaza and the Pocahon-

downtown. Brazilian Court at 1805
19th Place and the Royal Viking at 706

apartment buildings in the Mediter-

Med Revival homes are scattered

the Osceola Park neighborhood, and
there are some great, almost palatial
examples on the island in Old Riomar.
