“I love what I do and helping people live a fuller life”
Joann Avery & Joe Mutter Dear Neighbors:
I feel like I’m a part of the Mutter Family.
My new hearing aids have been an absolute wonder for me.
My very first family outing with them on we all went bowling
and I decided not to tell my family unless they noticed how well I was
hearing and sure enough they did! My granddaughter was amazed
when I told her to whisper something to me and I repeated it back
to her! They were so thrilled with my new hearing aids and couldn’t
believe that I was actually wearing them because they couldn’t see
them! My son-in-law even got his flashlight out to shine in my ear to
see that they were actually there! I cannot believe how easy the
transition has been and Joe was there to help me at every step of the
way. Every one at Mutter’s Hearing Center has been lovely with
helping me and truly bettering my hearing.
Sincerely Joann Avery

LEWIS LIBRARY: ART

welcomed by a crowd of girls . “It is designed to have local artists to showcase their
work,” said Kasha Barska, program assistant. “We invite
PHOTOS: LINDA THIBEAULT local artists for three months to display their work at the
library.”
That has been going on since the end of last summer.
The library now has two areas for local artists and pho-
tographers to display their work. But, there’s something
new.
“We’re just opening it for teens,” Barska said. “It’s an
opportunity for all the talented high schoolers.”
The youths will have their own display area at the li-
brary. The two adult display areas are booked for most
of the year.
“We already are filled out until September,” Barska
said. “The only openings I have for adults are from Oc-
tober to November.”
But “I’m wide open for teens,” added Barska.
Maureen Gallagher, branch supervisor, said artists
and photographers have no sizing criteria, although
most have averaged five works in the displays. “The art
has to be either framed or gallery wrapped,” she said.
Artists and photographers must also be local. Addi-
tionally, they must show library personnel their chosen
works before displaying them. The two artists now on
display at the Lewis library are Sharon McCuem and
Linda Relis.
This brings us to the other things going on, starting
with the free Sunday concerts.
“This is a very special event to bring some music to
the community,” Gallagher said. “It’s the Fort Pierce Jazz
& Blues Society that’s performing.”
(The library isn’t open for checking out items during
the Sunday concerts.)
“We have another performance Feb. 10,” Gallagher
said. “It’s inside the library. We have a very large com-
munity room.” The community room will open at 12:30
p.m. The show starts at 1 p.m.
Musicians not associated with the society will also
have a shot at taking the Lewis stage to wow the crowds,
said Enrique Carmona, senior digital program special-
ist. Musicians, poets, performing artists and anyone else
with something to say, for that matter. The library is au-
ditioning now for its upcoming open mic night.
“The show is on April 4,” Carmona said. “It’s from 5:30
to 7:30 p.m. We’re going to showcase a variety of artists.”
To audition, people just need to go by and see Car-
mona. The auditions can be done live, by appointment
or by video. Video auditions can be provided on flash
drives, by email, or even by YouTube or other online vid-
eo social media. The library requires would-be partici-
pants to provide copies of their driver’s licenses or state
identification cards, too. The field is wide open.
“I have yet to sign up anybody yet,” Carmona said.
The library is located at 2950 SW Rosser Blvd. Port St.
Lucie. The phone is 772-871-5470. It’s open Tuesdays to
Saturdays. Artists interested in displaying in ArtSpace

ace. East’s club discard was a mortal blow that South had not visualized. The contract could
no longer be made.
Just in case the spades were 5-0, or East had begun with a doubleton diamond and could
overruff a low spade, declarer should have discarded a club or heart from the board at
trick three. Yes, East would have taken the trick with his queen, but he would have had no
winning continuation. Probably he would have shifted to a club, but South would have won
with his ace, drawn trumps and claimed those 10 winners.
Try to visualize nasty distribution and how to circumnavigate it.
