that hearing loss is associated with accelerated cognitive decline (your brains ability to understand what you hear)
in older adults and that hearing loss significantly accelerates the development of dementia when compared to those
who retain their hearing. A third Johns Hopkins study revealed a link between hearing loss and accelerated
brain tissue loss. The researchers found that for those with hearing loss, brain tissue shrinks faster than it
does for those with normal hearing.

ELECT

LINDA GAUSTEN

FOR CITY COUNCIL
GENERAL ELECTION Nov. 8th

Linda Gausten

My election opponent, John Carvelli, has published a full-page negative attack ad against me
containing misleading claims, misrepresented facts, and outright nonsense. I wish to respond
by highlighting the facts regarding the assets I will bring to the table as a new Port St. Lucie
Councilwoman this November.

I am a financial business professional and have the skill and experience needed to meticulously
research every issue before coming to a conclusion. My qualifications allow me to understand
our city’s economy and how to work to make it better. My financial and leadership skills will
help the city to keep our property taxes down. I have what it takes to work to help reduce our
mountain of debt. My word and handshake is something you can count on.

In their endorsement, TC Palm said that I have “a solid grasp of financial matters.”
And that my “background would be an asset to the council as it attempts to
navigate numerous fiscal challenges. Gausten also is a person of action. In
2015, she organized community efforts to oppose Compost USA, a controversial
compost plant that was proposed for western St. Lucie County.”

“I humbly ask for your vote. I will work hard,
and work smart. I know that I can make
a positive difference in our City, which we
all call home. Please call me with your
questions (772-345-6669),
and read my platform by visiting
my website: http://lindagausten.com
I am looking forward to serving you.”

In addition to a high-purine diet, risk

TRADITION AND ST. LUCIE WEST REAL ESTATE SALES

TOP SALES OF THE WEEK: Sept. 19 to Sept. 23

Thirteen was the lucky number on the local real estate scene last week, as that was the total of sin-

THE OPENING LEAD HELPED DECLARER WEST NORTH EAST
865 A K 10 9 4 72

In the given auction, four no-trump was Roman Key Card Blackwood, South’s reply
indicating two aces and the spade queen.

South realized that he needed to take these 12 tricks: five spades, three hearts, two
diamonds, one club, and a diamond ruff in the short-trump hand. He won the first trick,
cashed his spade queen, played off dummy’s top diamonds, ruffed the diamond six
high in his hand, drew trumps, ran the heart nine to West’s jack, and claimed..
