Presidents page Dear Members,
Season’s Greetings!
It gives me a great pleasure to communicate with you
through the February 2018 issue of the e-Newsletter of
Indian Radiological & Imaging Association, which is the first
e-Newsletter of the new team of office bearers for the year
2018. I am glad to see that the new editorial team of the e-
Newsletter, Dr. L. Murali Krishna and Dr. Ramesh S. Shenoy
have done a wonderful job in designing the Newsletter.
Our association is growing day by day and so are the
activities of the association, therefore, apart from the regular
News Bulletin, a monthly e-Newsletter has been started by
IRIA HQ giving information about the various activities of
the association at the national and state chapter levels to the
members. This regular e-Newsletter is intended to make
members feel that they are part of the IRIA family and also
provide opportunities for IRIA HQ to seek and get feedback/
inputs from the members on matters related to the
association from time to time.
We have started the year 2018 with the 71st Annual
Conference of IRIA and AOCR 2018 which was organized at
The Renaissance, Mumbai from January 25-28th, 2018. This
conference was a mega event in the history of IRIA and
AOSR and the credit goes to Dr. Bhavin Jankharia & Dr.
Jignesh Thakker, Organizing Chairmen and Dr. O. P.
Bansal, Dr. Shailendra Singh & Dr. Sanjeev Mani,
Organizing Secretaries and their entire team.
Presidents page As you are aware, the ‘Indian Radiological & Imaging
Association’ is fighting a turf battle for the benefit of its
members and the case is in the Honorable Supreme Court
of India. The question is - who is authorized to do
Ultrasound? Our contention is that, only those doctors who
possess post graduate degree or diploma in Radiodiagnos
are eligible to do the same. This battle became necessary
because many Radiology colleagues amongst us trained
mere MBBS doctors in Ultrasound and enabled them to
challenge the Radiology profession. Therefore, I would like
to advice all our members, to desist themselves from
training or conducting workshops for the benefit of non-
radiologists. However, members may continue to do the
same for Radiologists only. Let us not destroy our own
profession.
The interim orders of our SLP filed in the Honorable
Supreme Court of India would come on 6th March, 2018.
We hope for the best.
We have already launched a major social project named
‘Reksha’, aimed to save female gender. This was
inaugurated by Sri Amithab Bachan ,who offered
willingness to become the Brand Ambassador of the
project. The cruel act of female feticide must stop. IRIA
believes that any person collaborating in female feticide
must be put in jail. But PCPNDT act alone will not save our
girls. Social support mechanisms should also be
implemented for the benefit of the girl child. Here IRIA is
willing to join hands with the Government and honest
NGOs
Presidents page Another major program launched this year is Radiology
Education and Research foundation which will generate
sufficient funds for up scaling up the educational and
research activities in Radiology under direct supervision of
IRIA
For the first time in the history of IRIA, the chairman of the
Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) attended our
conference and we have jointly launched the Radiation
safety program which will definitely help in reducing
medical radiation hazards.
Let us work together for a bright future for our profession.
Jai IRIA
Thanking you,
Yours sincerely,
Dr. Mohanan K.
President, IRIA
Gen. Secretary's notes Dear Colleagues,

I am happy to inform you that today the membership
strength of IRIA has crossed 15,200. More and more
Radiologists are becoming members of our Association.
The strength of any organization is active participation of
its members. In the field of Radiology, we have many
goals to achieve.
In order to enhance the knowledge of the members and
Post Graduate students and young Radiologists
especially, IRIA organizes CME programs. Total four CME
programs are organized every year. IRIA HQ also
organizes two IRIA Resident Education Programs (IREP)
in a year exclusively for the Residents.
I am happy to inform that IRIA provides International
Travel Fellowship Grants to its members, young
Radiologists in particular. 100% of shortest Economy class

restrict the Ultrasound practice only to the Radiologists. I
request the unflinching support from all members and let
us pledge to uphold the dignity of our
profession and not to indulge in any unethical practices.
I take this opportunity to thank Dr. L. Murali Krishna and
Dr. Ramesh Shenoy for bringing a very good e-Newsletter
of IRIA.
I request the members to feel free to contact me on any
issue pertaining to the Association.
