Raksha

RAKSHA - the brainchild of Dr. Sona Pungavkar and the pride of IRIA got an
unprecedented exposure during the pageant Mrs India queen of Substance 2019, held at
ITC, Welcome hotel, Dwarka, in Delhi on the 20th April 2019.
In her introduction, Dr. Sona Pungavkar spoke about RAKSHA and it's presence in 16
states. Also, in her talent round which was only for I min 30 seconds, Dr. Sona painted the
Raksha logo, while a poem written by her, called THE RAKSHAK played in the background.
She chose her attire to resemble the Rani of Jhansi as depicted in the film Manikarnika,
while she gave a strong message that the lady has to consider herself to be strong, believe
in herself and protect other ladies who are weaker than her and also put up a thought
provoking question - CAN WE ALL CHOOSE TO BE RAKSHAKS?
This is a motivation for each respected member of IRIA, to reach out to the community in
their own way, in support of the Girl Child and spread the spirit and word of RAKSHA - IRIA
far and wide.

THE RAKSHA
I was born as the fairer sex,
Treated as a princess,
I was loved,
nurtured
and cared by all.
I grew up to be learned
and beautiful
And was taught to be dutiful.
But there are many fair sexes,
not as privileged.
I wow to make
a difference,
And give reverence,
to mothers,
sisters
and daughters.
I give a promise,
To family and land.
I am pure and white
as a dove,
I lay my life
for the ones I love,
Though the fight is nigh.
I hold my head high
As part of duty,
I adorn the armor,
I have given my word
Undoubtingly, I grab the sword
I choose to be the enhancer,
I choose to be the protector,
I choose to be the Rakshak.
Can we all be Rakshaks?
