participation of 125 Central Council Members in this meeting,
which is historic and reflects the great enthusiasm and
dedication amongst the Central Council members and it is a
good sign for any organization for its upliftment. Let us march
together for a great future.

It was great to be a part of the inauguration team in the
renaming of Conference Hall in the name of great inspiring
leader Dr. Sudarshan Aggarwal. All important agenda
pertaining to functioning of IRIA were approved. Each and
every member actively participated in the deliberations. Fetal
Radiology CME is spreading like wild fire. Strategic decisions
on PC & PNDT are made. FORA is born and all Radiology
subspecialties will work together. The Asian Radiology
Summit has been approved. Annual Ultrasound Conference is
also approved by the Central Council. Raksha project is
gaining momentum.

This is a matter of great pleasure and satisfaction that the first
workshop of ‘Indian Journal of Radiology & Imaging’,
“Publishing Radiology Manuscript: A Primer’’, was organized
by IJRI on 21st July, 2018 at IRIA House, New Delhi which
was a great success and attended by 150 registered

Gen. Secretary's notes Dear Members,

Seasons’ Greetings!

I take this opportunity to thank all the members for your active
participation in the Central Council Meeting held on 22nd July,
2018. There was a record attendance of 125 Central Council

manner. I would like to inform you that the November Central
Council Meeting would be held on 11th November, 2018 at
IRIA House, New Delhi. You are requested to kindly mark
your calendar and plan your visit to attend this meeting.

I am pleased to inform you that the first workshop of ‘Indian
Journal of Radiology & Imaging’, “Publishing Radiology
Manuscript: A Primer’’, was organized by IJRI and IRIA on
21st July, 2018 at IRIA House, New Delhi which was a great
success. During the workshop, basic aspects of preparing a
paper for publication were discussed to encourage and train
participants to submit their research papers for publication.
Entire program was based on “Resident-oriented” modules.
The highlights included Ethics in publishing, CARE guidelines,
writing review articles, How to frame the research question
and Basic Statistics and analysis of results. Panel Discussion
was on “Why does my article get rejected!” which proved very
educative. There was a live webcast of this Workshop. This
Workshop was attended by 150 registered delegates
including Central Council Members. I congratulate Dr. Brig.
Chander Mohan, Editor–in-Chief, IJRI and his team for this
initiative.

Gen. Secretary's notes The Central Council has approved to form a ‘Profession
Protection Fund’ (PPF) in order to safeguard our profession
and fighting our cases in High Courts and Hon’ble Supreme
Court of India. I appeal all the members, officer bearers and
state chapters of IRIA to come forward and contribute
generously for this cause which concerns all of us.

The following recommendations of the PC & PNDTCommittee
meeting have been approved by the Central Council:

1. Only qualified Radiologists having degree/diploma in
Radio-diagnosis alone need to be permitted to do Ultrasound
as per PC & PNDT Act and this stand should be reitrated by
IRIA.

2. On violation of the 2014 amendment of the PC & PNDT Act
regarding Six Month Training Course, which was upheld by
the Supreme Court should be fought locally by the state
chapters as it is done recently Tamilnadu state chapter of
IRIA.

3. If any state chapter wants to intervene on our SLP in
Supreme Court, they can do by supporting the IRIA HQ only.

4. The IRIA stand that the minor offences like clerical errors
which are of civil nature which are now attracting criminal
punishment should be deleted from the rules. For this we
have been trying at our level best in various fora.

The next hearing of our SLP in Hon’ble Supreme Court of
India is expected on 3rd August. We shall update the
members about the same.

Gen. Secretary's notes All the members are requested to follow the PC & PNDT Act
strictly as it is law of the land.

I am glad to inform all the members that a Forum of
Radiological Sub-specialty Associations (FORA) has been
formed by IRIA, which was approved by the Central Council.
IRIA being the parent body of all the Radiologist Associations
will act as an Umbrella under which all the eligible sub-
specialty Radiology organizations will co-exist as independent
association under the banner of FORA. The eligibility of the
association to become a member of FORA is that all its full
time active members should be Radiologists only.

With warm regards,

Yours sincerely,

Dr. C. Amarnath
