Introduction

What is Sway?

Microsoft Sway is a modern platform, that can construct
an interactive presentations that is special and looks
revitalising and visually delightful.

Sway: Reimagine the way your ideas come to life.

Sway is a free app from Microsoft Office that helps collect
data, synthesis layout, generate design and publish on an
interactive, web-based platform that displays perfectly on
almost any screen. Sway can be published as videos or
interactive charts to engage the audience better (Joe,
2016).

What is Sway?

Sway can be shared to others as reports, newsletters,
webpages, and presentations.

Microsoft is working hard to promote cloud and mobile
apps, it has invested in several old Offices’ apps that you
may friendly for cloud-only additions. One of these is
Sway, a favourable alternative to PowerPoint.

Availability of Sway

Sway is a digital tool to present your contents in the
way of storytelling. It comes with the built-in design
engine to autogenerate your works with an aesthetic,
precise and polished layout. The continuity between
images, text, videos, and other multimedia can be
presented in a great visual across any devices (Microsoft
Malaysia, 2015).

Availability of Sway

The public can now start to use the free tool, Sway only
with a Microsoft account to share their knowledge,
thought, and ideas anytime, anywhere, any devices
(Microsoft Malaysia, 2015).

So, Here are the platforms that Sway can be accessed!

iPhone iPad Window 10 WEB: Sway.com

• Browsing on the web at Sway.com, Sway is accessible
and free in any electronic devices such as laptop,
computer

• Sway for Windows 10 is now available as an app in
the Windows Store with 39 languages of choice.

• Available on iPad and iPhone optimised with the
view of landscape and portrait mode .

If you ‘re familiar with Microsoft tools, surely most of you
tried PowerPoint to produce a complete presentation
slide and present with good public speaking skills. But,
the real life is not every can speak convincingly and
present well with slide only. Besides, PowerPoint is a big,
heavy, corporate tool with a matching reputation.

tools which is lightweight, cloud-only, story-telling

Getting Started with Sway (Microsoft, 2016)

Sign Up and Sign In to Start Sway

To get started with Sway, visit sway.office.com in any browser
and then click Sign in icon on the top menu bar.

Click or tap to start

Key in email or create one When prompted, enter the email
address you want to use with Sway.
You can use your free Microsoft
Account (Hotmail, Outlook.com) or
any organizational account given to

you by your work or school. If you
don’t have an account, visit:
www.microsoft.com/account to sign
up for free.

Starting with [Create New]

To create your Sway by your own, you can start design
everything from a blank page and deliver your creativity. On
the homepage of Sway, start creating your Sway by clicking
[Create New].

Click to start a blank Sway

By then, Sway will bring you to a whole new blank page, to
customise your own Sway with ‘Content come First!’ concept.

Started with Storyline

The Storyline is where you
type, insert, edit, and
format the content that
tells your story. By adding
cards, the content is
arranged in sequential.
Text, images, videos, and
even Office documents can
be added. The order of
cards can be rearranged at
any time to suit your needs.

Name the Title

The first card is the title.
Click the Title your Sway
placeholder text shown in
the Storyline, and then
type a short but
meaningful description
that can present what
your Sway is all about.

Click or tap on the ‘plus’
+ icon to add new content

text form.

Type in the important content for every cards added. You
can also drag and drop text and images right onto your
Storyline. You can rearrange the order of your content at any
time and customize each card to suit your needs.

Image Suggested by Sway

The image can be added as simple as the image prepared in
the suggestion function of Sway. On the menu bar, click Insert,
by keying in the keyword to search the most suitable image
inside Sway webpage itself, without searching it on other
searching engine, download and upload to Sway.

as videos, and add it to

You can add an audio to your Sway. Adding the audio file
from your devices or record it on the spot with microphone. A
text can also be added as the description for the Audio.

Audio, Documents from your Devices directly through adding
the cards.

Design Your Sway

Preview the Design

You can preview your work in progress at any time by clicking
the Design tab. When you preview your Sway, you can see
how it will appear to others when you later decide to share it.
To return to your Storyline when you’re done previewing your
Sway, click the Storyline tab.

Design Your Sway

Change Design Styles

Sway is designed to lets you emphasise whatever the content
itself to speak to others with a brilliant layout, design, and
formatting. You can stay on the suggested default design by
Sway, or select and customise the design your own.

Click [Remix] for
random design

Customize your
own style

To choose a style for your Sway, click Design on the menu bar,
and then select Styles. By clicking the Remix! button, you can
select a random look and design for your Sway at any time, until
you find a preferable look, layout and design.

Change Layout

Change the layout on how the Sway present either sliding
vertically, horizontally or page-like slides.

Use template

There are up to 350+ different style of template with harmony
colours, typography, and textures that you can choose.

Customise yourself

You can also customise a specific region of the currently applied
style, such as font, texture, layout and colour, by clicking
the Customize button in the Styles pane.

click the Play button on the
top menu bar, to view your
works like the audiences.
Preview it as what’s the final
work looks like when you are
done. If feels likely to modify
the works, click on the Edit
button on right corner to back
to edit mode. Otherwise, share
it by clicking on the Share
button.
