MESSAGE FROM THE CLASS TEACHER

I am an archer,
knowledge is my bow.

you are my arrow.

I am an old river,
carry ,wisdom is a must.

you a water - woman,
fill up with zeal and zest.

I am a fisher-man,
don't carry a basket.

will not give you a fish,
but teach you ,weave a net.

I am a diamond merchant.
Shapes the dirty mind.
you are precious gem,

costly, rare to find.

Carry a crown, on your head.

Mark this gardener’s word,
Made of flowers and thorn,

Life is a beautiful bed.

I may change for better.

My head, bald and grey.

Internet Addiction In Teenagers

Now days, the internet has become a source of all kinds of information. As a result, people are getting
addicted to the internet, and refer to it as though it is their second brain. No doubt, the internet can be helpful
in the sense that you can get information about just anything you desire but if it tends to affect your social
life, there arises many problems. The internet has given rise to many quirky and urban addictions. Such
conditions are mostly observed in teenagers. Today’s teenagers find the internet and the computers a
necessity if they are going through high school. They need the internet to do research for their assignment and
projects. If you don’t have a computer, you will be left behind in this modern age. The computer and the
internet is used by teenagers not only to seek information and to complete assignments but as a pastime, for
playing games and socializing. The internet seems to be a perfect place for teens. Today’s social networking
sites like MySpace, Twitter and Facebook let them represent themselves as whoever and whatever, they
want. Its like an entirely different world out there. Instead of socializing and meeting with family and friends
they prefer chatting with people on chat rooms whom they have never met or even seen. But it isn’t what
internet addiction exactly is... these are the symptoms of internet addictions. So what exactly is internet
addiction? How and why does it happen? It generally without us realizing that its happening, suddenly the
internet becomes the centre of our world we do not care about friends, leaving home seems completely
unnecessary; we check e-mails and other messages in the middle of night, and everything seems fine natural
and normal. But the TRUTH is that, this is NOT natural and normal. It looks like you’ve become addicted to
internet!! This kind of addiction among teens can often be destructive. It is one that could have a major
impact on not only the computer addict, but also on the family and friends of the people. It is clear that
teenagers spending too much time online can really deter their social and educational development. There is
nothing wrong with the use of internet as a tool for research, news or even entertainment n a limit. After all
the World Wide Web is the most accurate, up to date resource for almost any type of information. But as the
internet evolves and becomes more tailored to the individual, it grows increasingly easier to grow dependency
on it. This is especially true for teens- a group that tends to be susceptible to flashy graphics and easily enticed
by the popularity of social networks. Fortunately the rate of addiction is low in India as compared to countries
such as the USA, etc. But nowadays the time which teenagers use on the internet is increasing in our country.
So friends lets limit the use of internet, cell phones and social networking and have a happy teenage!

Reservations And Racism For Whose Satisfaction???

‘3 idiots’ the sensational grosser of this year, was the reason for hundreds of suicides. Most people were shocked and

found no reason to believe the news. The government said that parental pressure for striving hard and institutions

who exploit were the main reasons for suicides. After some days not this, but a major issue which is gripping the

country will turn out to be the main cause for suicides. In a country like India casteism has been prevalent since

ancient times. The 4 Varnas as it was called has now been transformed into the caste system of India which is the

major obstacles in our path of success. To abolish the caste system, after independence it was decided to give equal

rights to all. But Babasaheb Ambedkar who fought for equals rights stated that special primitives should be given to

lower castes as their condition was pitiable. Accordingly our constitution was formed. Babasaheb Ambedkar had

asked privileges only for 15 years for the progress of the lower castes. But even after 60 years of independence these

reservations are still there and are increasing percent by percent. “Why??” is the question that comes to our mind…

why should we discriminate??? Every leader has said that without social unity we cannot progress then why do we

have ST’s, BC’s and OBC’s. Why are all not in open caste?? Or why do people feel the need to divide our huge

population in castes? We all should be treated equal and we are the children of God and no one should dare separate

us. It was because of the “divide and rule” policy of the British that they ruled over us for 150 years. Reservations

today are haunting things of most people. Due to reservations intelligent people are being denied of admission.

Admissions should not be based on the quality of the caste but should be based on the quality of one’s brain. The

government says that India should be a “Mahasatta” like U.S.A., but we won’t be ever able to reach that level

because we have casteism. If there were no castes, people would still be able to progress. If government wants to

help economically backward people, let them help. Give them financial help. Why let them stay on top if some of

them are worthless?? Intelligent people, be it from any sect try hard and always win. Today rich people with the tag

of backward class win admission. America was able to succeed as they did not give admissions on basis of caste. They

gave jobs and admissions based on caliber. India blames other countries for having racial discrimination but we too

are no different. If students from our country goes abroad for further studies and gets a job the politicians there, say

that there is a brain-drain. But don’t they realize that because of their rules students go abroad? They don’t take

pride for India. Our country has got plenty of institutions and companies but if they a full courtesy to reservations,

students do and will go abroad. Politicians don’t care an ounce for our welfare, all they care is getting votes by spoon

feeding people with money and privileges. So friends, be proud of India, not for how it is, but for how it should be. No

system in our country is going to change without effort, but if we change the mentality of people everything will

change. Even I have used the word “caste” for writing. This word should be cancelled out from our mental dictionary,

till that is we won’t be a “MAHASATTA” which we should rightly be must provide forums to various spectrums of

people. It must create awareness about development and technology. We need to have many more people like

Barkha dutt and Tarun Rajpal. We need to talk about the real heroes who make our nation better. We need to expose

corruption… so much that the culprits are convicted! Media must represent true India to the rest of the world! This is

the need of the hour! Anjali Singh VII

Terrorism The Modern Devil

It was 7 o’ clock in the evening and people were gathering with their friends at the German bakery for a quick
snack. The atmosphere was like that of any city on a Saturday evening. Bright street lights, cars zooming past
constantly, young people strolling down the pathways and happy families out for the evening. The German
bakery- a famous café frequented by many youngsters was doing roaring trade that evening. At 7:15 pm there
was an enormous explosion and the walls of the bakery collapsed. 8 people were killed on the spot, thousands
were injured. It was later realized that this catastrophic situation was caused because of an IED bomb planted
there by some unknown person. Such occurrences have become quite common across the globe nowadays.
Another horrific situation on a much larger scale was caused on the 26th November 2008 in Mumbai. Such
situations spread the fear in the innocent minds. The people who execute these terror operations are called
‘terrorists’. Acts of terrorism shake the stability of the whole province, they cause loads of damage to the life and
property of people. These things induce terror in minds of innocent people. So, the question we should ask
ourselves is that “why do such instances of terror take place?”, “why do some individuals resolve to terrorism?”
and “What should we do to eradicate terrorism?” There are many terrorist groups all over the world and each
one of them has its own objectives which they seek to accomplish. The two main types of terrorism are political
terrorism and religious terrorism. Political terrorism acts aim at achieving necessary changes which people think
are really important and cannot be achieved by any other way. Civil wars or coupes are the examples of political
terrorism. Religious terrorism is practiced by people who belong to a common religion and act fanatically to
achieve religious supremacy. Such people cause mass destruction to get their demands heard and to terrorize a
larger audience. To stop such disturbing acts, all the countries should come under a single banner and launch a
major offense against terrorism. The people should keep their calm. Security in any area must be increased to
stop the transport of illegal arms and ammunition. If India too follows such measures, the frequency of such
activities will considerably reduce. The people should be united and no body will ever be able to cause any
terror...

Are We Getting Really Educated?

1.Information and knowledge. 2 different concepts. But very closely related to each other. Today we find
ourselves appearing for 6 school exams right from the first Std. Does this mean that we are getting a lot of
knowledge? No, it doesn’t. It just means that our memory is really up to the mark! Because studying nowadays
has become a regular exercise for the brain just to remember things. Thus, children don’t study the way they want
to. I feel that what we learn in school is pure information, to accumulate it and store it for a few days until the
exams get over. There isn’t any knowledge involved. To get knowledge one important factor is present which is
long lost today. It is application. Whenever we apply the information in a useful way, it becomes knowledge. Then
this knowledge can be used anywhere and everywhere. Why is India still a developing country and what is
stopping it from becoming one? It is our education system. Our education system is a stumbling block towards
achieving all round progress. If this is the state of education in cities like Pune where the children are
disinterested, then we can imagine the state of education in remote rural areas. Next is the pressure on the
today’s child. Even small children are expected to get good marks. Nothing is acceptable below 90%. All these
reasons are responsible for the rise in the number of student suicides in our country. The probable solutions
according to me are Streaming of subjects – If a child has an inclination of selecting the science stream after
completing his tenth, why should he study subjects like history and economics? Thus streaming of subjects will
help considerably, at least to make the child study what he wants to. Reservation – I am against the idea of
reservation for scheduled castes and scheduled tribes, because it increases competition. Most of these people
leave college completing only half of their course. Objective types of tests – The tests today are long, tedious and
require a very good memory. Instead of these there should be tests which test the concepts, understanding of the
student. The nature of competitive exams should be incorporated in schools. I hope if at least some of these are
implemented, it will surely make a major difference in the mind-set of the student.

Responsibilities Of Mass Media In Present Circumstances

Martin Luther translated the bible into German for the people to understand. Adolf Hitler made everyone buy a
copy of ‘mein kampf’ that tought people how to run a nation. But in India, we missed out on the significance of a
printing press. Let’s see how things can be changed and what is the biggest force that can help in bringing the lost
awareness back to the people. It is the media obviously! What do the media do? The media is an all powerful
source in any democratic system, because it carries the capacity to radically influence the thinking of people that
can help the nation to progress. The present world is known as the media world. Inventions in electronic media
have brought the world together. As every coin has two sides, media in general has been a great mover in
exposing terrorism and corruption. But it has also been an encouraging factor for the people going into the darker
side. We also see film stars turning into politicians. The issue of North Indians residing in Maharashtra took the
wrong turn as it was over hyped by the media. The present issues are also hyped by the government. The media
should handle sensitive cases with utmost care and responsibility. They should aim at bringing the truth out
rather than posting fake news to increase the TRP. Media should help in building the nation stronger though a
democratic country, the Indian government is thinking of having some restrictions on the media. In the 21st
century, the media must work hand in hand with the society. It must help the government in deciding the policies
and criticize the issue that might have deeper impacts on the society. It must provide forums to various spectrums
of people. It must create awareness about development and technology. We need to have many more people like
Barkha dutt and Tarun Rajpal. We need to talk about the real heroes who make our nation better. We need to
expose corruption… so much that the culprits are convicted! Media must represent true India to the rest of the
world! This is the need of the hour! ........

Times Are Changing….

Times are changing…this phrase has been doing the rounds for quite some time now!! And
it is quite true too!! Initially when global warming was a newly discovered phenomenon,
everyone was curious to know more about it and had the urge to make a sincere
contribution to the environment. It hasn’t been long after the world has known all the pros
and the cons of global warming, but the altitude of the global citizens has already seen a
drastic change. Nowadays, taking about global warming and becoming ambassadors of
the same cause has become more of a status symbol than a matter of concern. While there
are still people like Al Gore shouting their lungs out about the extreme shortage of time,
left to save the earth, majority of us seem to be deaf, while some of us are aware of
whatever happening is wrong, but friends, knowing what is right and doing what is right
are two different things. I am sure there will be a time when the entire global village will
wake up from its slumber of negligence and realize that whatever Al Gore said was right.
And hope to would not have been too late to mend by then.

A Way Of Life

India, the land of the tiger. We Indians, citizens of this great nation, on the verge of
becoming a superpower. Our aim-to take this very nation to the top; attain immense
economic and technological progress. Through this we stand to gain recognition, respect,
money and much more, but what do we stand to lose? Our rich Natural Heritage.
Right from the frigid Himalayas to the sun-kissed southern beaches, from the
dense evergreen forests of the Western Ghats to the mangroves in the Ganges delta, from vast
grasslands to cold deserts, our country is teeming with LIFE. Are we not neglecting this aspect of wealth
the country has in abundance? Our land is the most biologically diverse only next to the Amazon basin.
There are more undiscovered creatures here than anywhere else. But will anyone find and appreciate
them? Will they ever get a chance to come before the world? The chances are bleak considering the rate
at which we care destroying natural habitat. The national animal of India- the tiger, a symbol of strength
and intellect, is endangered
today because of our selfish motives. The Indian rhinoceros was revived from
extinction. Why did the situation arise in the first place?
70% of the people say they are animal lovers.
Every time they see a small puppy “so sweet” or a tiger in the wild “so majestic” is the clichéd reaction.
Everyone knows the number of tigers left -1411
But what are people doing – learning the number again after it decreases so that they can answer some
quiz?
I think people should change their outlook now and instead of just being animal lover,
they should start supporting conservation programmes.

SHORT STORIES

A Wise Old Owl

There was an old owl that lived in an oak. Every day he saw incidents
happening around him. Yesterday he saw a boy helping an old man to
carry a heavy basket. Today he saw a girl shouting at her mother. The
more he saw the less he spoke.

As he spoke less, he heard more. He heard people talking and telling
stories. He heard a woman saying that an elephant jumped over a fence.
He also heard a man saying that he had never made a mistake.

The old owl had seen and heard about what happened to people. Some
became better and some became worse. But the old owl had become
wiser each and every day.

Moral of the story :

You should be observant, talk less but listen more. This will make

you a wise person Narender Singh

SHORT STORIES

The Dog and The cows

The cows used to eat hay from the manger. One day a herd of cows came to the manger to
eat hay. They saw a dog lying on the hay in the manger.
One of the cows pleaded, "Please, will you get up! We are hungry. We have to eat our hay".
The dog did not take heed of it.
Once again another cow pleaded, "Please, let us have our hay". The dog snarled and the cow
stepped back.
A wise cow ran up to the bull and told him the matter.
The bull came and requested, "Get out, please! Let them have their food". There was no
reply. The bull became angry. He bellowed loudly and stamped his legs. The dog got
frightened and ran for his life.
