JULY 2021
First and foremost, I would like to extend my gratitude to the Chiropractic
association of South Africa (CASA) for selecting me as the “Student
member of the Month” for July 2021. Thank you for offering me this
opportunity to share my chiropractic journey with everyone.
My Name is Kimone Naidoo, I have recently graduated as a Chiropractor
from the Durban University of Technology (DUT), completing my masters
degree in Chiropractic. As my chiropractic journey begun in 2014 and
I dreamt of the days of qualifying and achieving my goal. As my greatest
achievement was reached and I’ve gotten so much more out of university
than I thought I ever would. It was such a disillusionment significance,
as my mother passed just three weeks before my graduation. As the
loss of a parent is never easy, I lost a best friend and confidant. It
was unfortunate that she did not get to see me take the final step.
However, I would invoke her, by saying, she would have been so
proud. Remembering her words “You are strong enough to persevere
through storms and you are ambitious to be able to achieve it”.
From as long as I could remember, I have always wanted to be a part of the medical profession and
helping individuals was a part of my desired being. After receiving my first adjustment and being totally
WOW’ED by the experience. This had sparked an interest of a little girl who always dreamt of helping
and healing individuals, specifically the elderly. My passion for chiropractic was matched solely for the
need to help individuals and being sublimated to the greater good. It gracefully extended in my final year
of schooling when I did my observation in the Durban University of Technology chiropractic day clinic,
Dr Mark Aaron who helped heal individuals and elderly individuals without the usage of medication, by
only the use of their hands.
Becoming a natural healer and contributing to an individual’s physical wellbeing. My chiropractic
journey has given me that opportunity to experience growth as an individual and live out my dream
of being in the medical profession. As I grew fondly about learning on elderly individuals that always
outsourced my curiosity. My thesis was solely focused on the clinical experience of the registered masters
degree chiropractic students and their management on elderly patients during their clinical practicum.
This helped me understand elderly patients in a more effective manner and to appreciate the work we do.
Some of the accentuated moments in Chiropractic was achieving an Anatomy certificate of top
performance during my second year of study from the Basic medical science department, I went from
being an individual who could not stand the scent of formaldehyde to appreciate the studying the human
body. Another highlight would definitely be my years in clinic, gaining the required experience from
treating and managing different patients. I noticed the significance of leadership skills in the clinicians in
how they advised and guided students to treating patients effectively. During the latterpart of my schooling
I tutored younger students in Diagnostics III. This aided my growth as a future inter disciplinary doctor,
taught that the approach of appreciation of how the humanities can enable me to better understand future
patients.

JULY 2021
My educational pursuits would have not been possible
without the generous support of the Durban University
of Technology Chiropractic Department. I thank Dr
Keseri Padaychee, Dr Ashura AbdulRasheed and Dr
Charmaine Korporaal for the words of encouragement,
you have always been instrumental in my career.
I would like to thank CASA for being such a dedicated
and helpful association, in always preparing interesting
webinars by keeping one up to date with the new
laws and new improved methods of learning. I am
thankful to be a part of such a passionate professional
association.
My chiropractic journey has not only made me the
professional and sophisticated individual that I hereby
am today. I have individuals that I have crossed paths along the way who have made it so memorable, by
supporting me through this path of life and being individuals, I value. Lastly, I dedicate my achievements
to my family who have helped me succeed in this endeavour, who have been supportive, caring and
concerned throughout my journey.
As a newly graduate, there are always going to be new challenges awaiting you as you make a new
chapter of your life. But if you continue to have the faith and persevere, you will be able to face whatever
life throws at you. Fear is the only pandemic. Don’t stop believing that you can create a beautiful
tomorrow for yourself.

I look forward to exploring the new possibilities on the journey of my career.
