MARCH 2021
My name is Micaela Ravidutt and I am a chiropractic student at the
Durban University of Technology. I would like to thank CASA for
nominating me as their student member of the month for March 2021.
I would like to thank my family for their support and encouragement
throughout the years but above all I am exceptionally grateful to my
Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ for seeing me through a most incredible
and gratifying journey.
I matriculated at Kloof High School in 2014. My favourite subject in
school was Life Sciences and I was particularly interested in the study
of the human body. Driven by the need to contribute towards improving
people’s quality of life and general well-being, I always found myself
leaning towards a career in the field of Health Sciences.
After attending a chiropractic presentation at a careers Expo at school,
I realized that chiropractic was indeed the career for me. In essence,
it encompassed everything that I believed in and I always envisaged myself helping others from a natural
and non-invasive approach. Having had no exposure to chiropractic, I felt compelled to extensively
research the career and I was intrigued by what the profession had to offer.
I was elated to be accepted into the chiropractic course at DUT and so began my journey in 2015 as a
chiropractic student. Despite being a consistent and diligent worker, I found the course was by no means
a “walk in the park”. The past few years have been very challenging and demanding. However, with
great perseverance and determination, it has been a rewarding and fulfilling experience.
During the chiropractic course I developed a keen interest in radiography and volunteered to tutor the
fifth year class in 2020. I have attended numerous radiography webinars.
The highlight for me in my chiropractic course was entering the clinic setting and interacting with patients
directly. I was finally able to apply the knowledge and skills that I have acquired over the years and put
it to practice. I have found that there is nothing more rewarding than
improving a patient’s quality of life. In 2020 I was honoured to be the
recipient of the Clinic Excellence Award.
I am approaching the end of my chiropractic journey as a student and
look forward to qualifying and starting my own chiropractic practice
where I will continue to promote awareness of the chiropractic
profession in the community. I am constantly on the quest for greater
knowledge and insight and I believe that becoming a member of a
multidisciplinary team will not only enhance the patient’s health but
will also help me gain inter-professional knowledge.
