California Joint Women’s Initiative Team (JWIT) www.cajwit.com MEMORANDUM FOR THE CALIFORNIA JOINT WOMEN’S INITIATIVE TEAM (JWIT) PROGRAM MANAGER FROM: California Joint Women’s Initiative Team Champion SUBJECT: Letter of Agreement for Champion in the California Joint Women’s Initiative Team (JWIT) 1.I understand the California Joint Women’s Initiative Team (JWIT) is an official entity that leverages the experiences and voices of civilian and military volunteers to enhance equal opportunity and inclusion across the California Military Department. Its primary purpose is to 1) analyze anomalies in workplace policies, identify root causes and remove potential barriers to equal opportunity employment; and 2) drive inclusion through mentorship and development engagement and retention of underrepresented groups. Membership is open to all. 2. A Champion is: an O6, E9, or equivalent civilian position who serves as a proponent and mentor. The role of the Champion is to: Promote awareness of the purpose, goals, and objectives for the CA JWIT throughout the CMD Promulgate the messages, initiatives, and issues of the team being championed Support, guide, and assist the Team Leads as they lead the group of volunteers to uncover and address barriers to employment, advancement, and retention for its focus area – this includes assisting with gaining access to data and other information Assist in identifying potential barriers in policies, procedures, and practices to aid in addressing those barriers Keep the Strategic Director and Strategic Advisors informed of team activities or senior leader engagements Uphold and contribute to an inclusive culture that values equal opportunity, diversity, and inclusion, enabling all CMD members to contribute to their fullest potential 3. Champions are also expected to meet the expectations of a mentor in Air Force Handbook 36-2643, Air Force Mentoring Program and FM 6-22, Developing Leaders. These include: Exemplify Core Values Provide practical counsel by offering guidance and feedback while also gathering personal feedback Support mentees career planning and goal setting by using a developmental plan to capture career planning requirements Advise mentees to cultivate their leadership and functional capabilities by completing the online institutional and occupational competency assessments. Share relevant knowledge, experience, and resources with CA JWIT members. Identify and help CA JWIT members resolve potential issues they face. Facilitate opportunities for CA JWIT members to gain new experiences and build skills.. 4. Champions will receive feedback (at least annually) to provide documentation of performance. The CA JWIT will review and approve annually appointment of Champions, who serve in one calendar increments. Champions will serve as board members in administrative concerns regarding member retention, removal, or remedial training. 5. Champions will not represent policy ideas as being official JWIT positions without first coordinating with the JWIT Team Lead and Program Manager.
