Prologue
Question: Summarize how the month of August is described.
My Answer: The month August is described on the first page of
the Prologue as Motionless, hot, and curiously silent.
Question: Explain the purpose of Mae Tuck’s trip.
My Answer: The purpose of Mae Tuck’s trip is to meet her two
sons, Miles and Jesse.
Chapters 1 and 2
Chapter 1 Question: Why do you suppose the narrator thinks it would be a disaster if
the cows made the road through the wood?
My Answer: It would be a disaster if the cows made the road
through the wood because it says on page eight that “ If they
had made their road through the wood instead of around it, then
the people would have followed the road. The people would
have noticed the giant ash tree at the center of the wood, and
then, in time, they’d have noticed the little spring bubbling up
among its roots in spite of the pebbles piled there to conceal it.
And that would have been a disaster so immense that this
weary old earth, owned or not to its fiery core, would have
trembled on its axis like a beetle on a pin.”
Chapter 2 Question: What did Mae always bring with her when she traveled?
My Answer: Mae always brings a pretty square music box with
roses and lilies with her when she travels.
Chapters 3 and 4
Chapter 3 Question: What was Winnie referring to when she said she might do it
tomorrow while everyone is sleeping?
My Answer: When Winnie said she might do it tomorrow she
was saying that she might run away.
Chapter 4 Question: Which questions didn’t the stranger answer?
My Answer: The stranger didn’t answer the questions who are
you and who are you looking for.
Chapters 5 and 6
Chapter 5 Question: Explain why Winnie decided not to run away.
My Answer: Winnie decided not to run away because she didn’t
know where she would go or where she wanted to go.
Chapter 6 Question: Why didn’t Winnie signal to the stranger when she went by
him?
My Answer: Winnie didn’t signal to the stranger because she
was very lost and confused and she just didn’t think to signal to
him until after she passed him.
Chapters 7 and 8
Chapter 7 Question: When the Tucks came to Treegap for the first time, who drank
from the spring? Who didn’t?
My Answer: When the Tucks came to Treegap for the first time
everybody except the cat drank from the spring.
Chapter 8 Question: What proof of Tuck’s story was the reader provided earlier in
the novel?
My Answer: There was proof of Tuck’s story on page 12 when it
says “ For Mae Tuck, and her husband, and Miles and Jesse,
too, had all looked exactly the same for eighty-seven years.”
Page 7 “ How deep, after all, I think this is a tough

Chapters 1-8
In chapters 1-8 of Tuck Everlasting, it describes how Winnie Foster meets the Tucks. In the
beginning of the book, Winnie lives in an overprotective house in the village of Treegap with
her parents and grandmother.Their house is on the edge of the woods they own but never
go into. Meanwhile, the Tucks are getting excited to see their sons whom they have not seen
in ten years. Mae is heading off to meet them, but they say that she has to be careful not to
be seen. She does not look in the mirror before she goes because it says she has looked
the same for the past 87 years. May takes along her music box as she goes off to meet her
sons. Then in chapter 3, Winnie has a conversation with a toad. She talks about how hard
her life is and she decides to run away. Later, that night Winnie heads out to her yard and
meets a stranger walking by who asks her about the woods and the people she knows in the
area. He tells her that he is looking for a family. Winnie’s grandmother comes out to tell
Winnie to go inside. Just then some music is heard in the woods. The grandmother says it is
the elf music she hasn’t heard in years. Winnie thinks it sounds like a music box and the
stranger is very interested in it. In chapter 5, Winnie decides she wouldn’t run away, but she
would adventure off into the wood to try and find what was making the noise last night.
Winnie does not find what was making the noise but she does find an opening in the wood.
She looks to see what was in the opening and she sees a boy sitting against a big tree
trunk. Winnie goes out and talks to the boy. They introduce each other and then ask some
questions. Earlier, Winnie saw him drinking water from a little spring. Winnie asked if she
could have some and Jesse immediately says no. Next, in chapter 6 Mae Tuck, Jesse Tuck,
and Miles tuck are bring Winnie somewhere that was out of the wood. Just as they got out of
the wood, Winnie saw the stranger from the other night on the road. Once they had gotten
farther from the wood they stopped at a little river to catch their breath when Winnie started
crying. Mae started playing a music box and winnie realized that it was the music she had
heard the night before. Then in chapter 7, The Tucks explain their whole story to Winnie.
They had come to find a place to settle when they had came across what is now the wood.
They found the spring and they all drank from it except the cat. They eventually settled and
built a house and some shacks. They started to notice that none of them were changing and
that something was wrong. They realized that the reason that they weren’t changing was
because of the spring for everybody but the cat had drank from the spring and only the cat
had died or changed. And finally in the beginning of chapter 8 Winnie is completely mind
blown by the Tucks story. But towards the end Winnie realizes she is very free right now and
that this is kind of what she wanted, a big adventure. Winnie was so happy she barely
noticed that the stranger was behind her and that he had heard the whole story.
Chapters 9-17
Chapters 9 and 10
Chapter 9 Question: What did Miles and Jesse do as soon as they got home?
My Answer: As soon as they got home Miles and Jesse jumped
in the pond.
Chapter 10 Question: Analyze the differences between the Tuck’s house and
Winnie’s house.
My Answer: The difference between their houses is that
Winnie’s house is very organized and clean, but the Tuck’s
house is kind of just a place to store stuff and sleep.
Chapters 11 and 12
Chapter 11 Question: Analyze the differences between dinner at the Fosters and
dinners at the Tucks.
My Answer: The difference between dinner at the Fosters and
dinner at the Tucks is that at the Fosters, they have lots of rules
and it has to be nice. While at the Tucks they just eat and their
only rule is to not talk.
Chapter 12 Question: How does Winnie feel about death?
My Answer: Winnie feels like she doesn’t want to die and that
death is bad but in reality it is actually better than living forever.
Chapters 13 and 14
Chapter 13 Question: What news did the stranger reveal to the Fosters?
My Answer: The news the stranger told the Fosters was that he
knew where Winnie was.
Chapter 14 Question: Explain how Winnie feels about Jesse’s proposition.
My Answer: I think Winnie felt very confused and just
completely lost after Jesse’s proposition.
Chapters 15-17
Chapter 15 Question: Would you give in to the stranger’s blackmail? Explain why or why not.
My Answer: I would not give in to the strangers blackmail
because he has been acting very suspiciously and I would not
trust him to get one of their children or to own the wood.
Chapter 16 Question: Why do you suppose the stranger ditched the constable? Explain.
My Answer: I thought it was very weird when the stranger
ditched the constable because he once again has been acting
weird and I think he is plotting something big.
Chapter 17 Question: Explain what happened when Miles caught the fish.
My Answer: When Miles caught the fish Winnie freaked out and
told him to put it back and Miles did.

Chapters 9-17
In chapter 9 of Tuck everlasting, Winnie, Jesse, Miles, and Mae were still traveling to their
destination. Winnie was very hot and wanted to arrive to the place. Not much longer they arrived at
their place, it was the Tucks “ House.” Miles and Jesse ran and jumped in the pond next to their
house while Mae had Winnie meet Angus Tuck, Mae’s husband. In chapter 10, not a lot happens.
Mae shows Winnie all around their house and talks to her about how some things in their life go.
Winnie was very confused about the Tucks house because she was used to a nice house and the
Tucks didn’t really see the need for them to have a nice organized house. In the next chapter, while
they are eating dinner Winnie panics. She wants to go home and she thinks the Tucks are
criminals. Mae calms her down and Tuck says he will take Winnie out on the pond to talk a little bit.
After that, in chapter 12 Winnie is on the boat with Tuck. Tuck tells Winnie that life is like a wheel
and that everything is a part of the wheel. Except for himself and the rest of the Tucks. He explains
himself as a rock dropped off on the side of the road that is permanently stuck. Chapter 13 is very
short but something big happens. At the end of chapter 12 Miles had called out that the horse was
gone. The man in the yellow suit had stole the Tucks horse and was now at the Fosters front door.
As Winnie grandmother opened the door the man in the yellow suit claimed he knew where Winnie
was. Later, in the next chapter the Tucks decided to leave the horse thief and go to bed. Winnie
was uncomfortable in her bed but it was the only choice. Mae and Tuck came in to talk to her but
the one that really meant something to her was Jesse. Jesse had told her that she could wait till
she was 17( the same age as Jesse) and then she could drink from the spring so they could get
married and have fun. After Jesse said this he told Winnie to think on it but Winnie was just super
confused and lost. Chapter 15 is basically the stranger trying to strike a deal with the Fosters. He
wants to own the wood if he gets Winnie back. The Fosters don’t exactly accept the offer but they
never decline it so the stranger just says they agree and he sets off before they change their mind.
Chapter 16 starts off again with a little more talking to the fosters but mostly the stranger riding
towards the Tucks. He is riding with a constable and it is very dark outside. They are talking about
stuff when suddenly the stranger asks if he can ride ahead of the constable and he says yes. The
constable’s horse is slow so the man in the yellow suit is slowly but surely gaining time on him. And
finally, in chapter 17 Miles comes in and asks Winnie if she wants to go fishing. Winnie says sure
so they go out on their little boat and fish. While they are talking Winnie gets a bite but it gets off.
Miles gets a bite too but he is able to pull it into the boat. Winnie freaks out and tells him to put it
back so Miles listens and he puts the fish back into the water.

Epilogue
What does the reader learn from the epilogue in this novel? Do
you think the epilogue was necessary? You learn a lot from this
epilogue. You see how much treegap has changed and how the
Tucks haven’t changed. Also, it shows that Winnie decided not
do drink from the spring and that she had died.

Chapters 18-25
In chapter 18, Winnie and the Tucks are eating breakfast. After they had
finished they were talking and heard a knock on the door. Mae went to open it
and she was greeted by the stranger. In chapter 19 the stranger comes in to
the Tucks house. He explains how he knows about the spring and a bunch
more. He says he is going to make Winnie drink some of the water and Mae
does not want that so she hits him in the back of the skull with Tucks shotgun.
In chapter 20, The constable arrives at the scene of the stranger laying on the
ground. He tells Mae that if the stranger dies she will be hung. All of them got a
little concerned because if everything was true, Mae wouldn’t die when she gut
hung. In chapter 21 Winnie arrives back home. Her family is very happy but
also a little worried. Next, in chapter 22 Winnie goes outside to the fence and
sees her toad. While she is worrying about the toad she sees Jesse. Jesse
gives her a bottle of water from the spring and explains how Miles came up
with a plan and he explains it. In the next chapter, when Winnie got hot she
came back into her house and put Jesse’s present in her drawer. She was
waiting for midnight. Winnie had zoned out but when she regained focus it was
almost midnight. In chapter 24 Winnie sneaks out and goes to the prison where
she meets the Tucks. Miles was working his plan and it was going pretty well.
Miles got the jail bars open and Mae climbed out. Right after Mae got out of her
cell the Tucks ran off into the night, Little did they know that would be one of
the last times they ever saw each other. And at last, in chapter 25 Winnie is just
thinking about everything she had done. She was finally back at her house and
with her toad. She used her special water and poured it on the toad, telling him
that he was safe forever.
In this story Winnie is the
protagonist and she
shows tons of bravery
while also showing
weakness at some
points. She is also pretty
clever for only being 10
years old. She has brown
hair blue eyes and lives
in a cottage
Jesse is a young character
who is very adventurous
and fun. He has long brown
curly hair and he is also
pretty caring and nice.
Miles is the Tucks oldest
son and is 5 years older
than Jesse. Miles is very
strong and smart. He has
short blonde hair and is
very good at carpenting.
Angus Tuck is the father of
Miles and Jesse. He is also
around 60 years old and
married to Mae. He is a
little bit lazy but does wood
projects to limit his
boredom.
Mae Tuck is the
mother of Miles and
Jesse. She is short
and plump and also
has gray hair. She is
very wise and old.
The stranger is very tall and
narrow and he wears a
yellow suit. He has gray hair

Through most of the book the tone is calm but
during the climax it gets pretty fierce and tense.
After the climax the story slowly dies back down
