who became chairman and president of the
USAKF.

United States Olympic Committee required
changes in the operation of the AAU NGB status
and that was when the USA Karate Federation was
born.

Anderson along with his team of the late Thomas
LaPuppet and Patrick Hickey, current president of
the USAKF, were the architects of the Olympic
karate effort. An extensive network of renowned
karate instructors throughout the country were
sought after to help make the vision of Olympic
karate a reality. A number of Japanese instructors
were very instrumental in those early years.
Takiyuki Mikami, Hidy Ochia, Kiyoshi Yamazaki,
Minobu Miki, Koji Sugimoto, Masaharu Sakimukai,
Katsutaka Tanaka and others gladly assisted the
USAKF.
