• And the beat goes on...

by AROLD AUGUSTIN, MD

When science gets victimized by ideological sophistry

Whenever there is a scientific discovery shining some
light on the supremacy of liberal, progressives VS
conservatives, Professor Nietzsche gets exceedingly giddy.
Not even for one second do he and his senior staff
question the underlying scientific tenet of such
publications. For some unclear reasons, most progressives
are certain that they are the best minds around and that
the rest of us are ignoramuses.
Case in point: A few years ago, some enlightened from the
Virginia Commonwealth University published a scientific
paper that purported to shine light on the psychological
basis of political ideologies. But, the finding that made this
article interesting was nothing else but the fact that
progressives were depicted as good people whereas
conservatives as authoritarian.
Knowing very well that bunch of supremely biased
academics, I am usually skeptical of the statistical findings
presented in such articles. Apparently, the authors have
now decided to publish a correction, essentially admitting
that the conclusions were wrong and that "psychoticism"
was rather a specific trait of liberalism.

6 COUCOU Magazine, July 2016

In conclusion, it is O.K. to publish some scientific
monstrosity and make your way to become a tenured
professor, and 10 years later, come out with a correction
to signal that you might have been wrong. Professor
Nietzsche et al. want to have it both ways. They will
ensure that you are labeled "ignoramuses" for life. Then,
they will present some fake apologies while the published
data were dubious from the get go.
Thanks again Professor Nietzsche for your courageous
correction, a decade later. Note that those same minds,
including the arrogant Nicholas Kristof of the New York
Times, would have deep sixed the same article if some
protected groups were painted in an unfavorable way.
This is the actual erratum released by the study authors:
"The authors regret that there is an error in the
published version of "Correlation not Causation: The
Relationship between Personality Traits and Political
Ideologies" American Journal of Political Science 56 (1),
34-51. The interpretation of the coding of the political
attitude items in the descriptive and preliminary
analyses portion of the manuscript was exactly reversed.
Thus, where we indicated that higher scores in Table 1
(page 40) reflect a more conservative response, they
actually reflect a more liberal response."

N’arrêtez pas le ot!

A chacun son lot…
De grâce, artistes,
N’arrêtez pas votre flot!
Que serions-nous piétistes

Oiseau de proie

Ce que le méchant
de toute ardeur fomente,
ses vents les plus violents
retournent une tourmente...
Ce qu'il vise juste
jamais n'atteint le juste...
Son masque une fois
tombé, quoi qu'il fasse
dévoile sa vraie face,
celle d'oiseau de proie...
Dans les petites choses
s'épanouit la rose,
le fondement des critères
de l'homme de caractère,
toujours prêt à servir
le déshérité du sort
aux lèvres le sourire...
Dans la transparence,
non dans l'apparence
l'homme fort

Soupi nou

Soupi nou fè plis bwi
Ke bat men nou
Alòs, kè kontan nou
Pa pi ere pase sa
Nou mare lespwa nou
Ak twa kout kòd
Souf nou
Adje, si nou ri
Se pou'n chare tèt nou
Ki moun nou ye ? Kote'n sòti ?
Kote'n pwale...?
Avni nou pa rive pi lwen
Ke longè ponyèt nou
Epi nou fyè
Pou le peyi, pou le drapo
Nou se pwemye pèp nwa
Endepandan
Men'm lè dènye mo a
Toujou nan men blan
San wont nou
Se sèl paspò nou
Nou sekwe ke nou
Tankou chyen
Pou nenpòt ti zo
Epi nou fyè
Nou se granmoun tèt nou
Nou lib pou'n fè tout vi nou
Ap goumen antrenou
Ki moun nou ye ? Kote'n sòti ?
Kote'n pwale ?

From his unique perspective as the great, great
grandnephew of "America the Beautiful" writer, Katharine
Lee Bates, Chris Gall transforms this beloved patriotic song
into monumental works of art--from purple mountain
majesties to gleaming alabaster cities. Honoring his
ancestry and national pride, Gall pairs the beautiful lyrics
with striking illustrations of notable American images such
as Pike's Peak, the Tuskgee Airmen, and firefighters raising
the American flag at Ground Zero.
