A Famosa, which means “The Famous” in
Portuguese, is located in Melaka. The fortress,

Sultan Abdul Samad
Building, Kuala Lumpur

A relic of Kuala Lumpur’s British colonial past, the Sultan Abdul Samad
Building sits pretty in the background of countless Merdeka Day parades

on Dataran Merdeka, which is directly in front of it. Housing many key
government departments during colonial times, the Sultan Abdul Samad

Building currently houses the Malaysian Information, Communications
and Culture Ministry..

National Monument Page 3
(Tugu Negara)

The National Monument is a sculpture that commemorates those who
died in Malaysia's struggle for freedom, principally against the Japanese

occupation during World War II and the Malayan Emergency, which
lasted from 1948 until 1960. It is located in the Federal capital, Kuala

Lumpur.

Kellie's Castle

Kellie's Castle (sometimes also
called Kellie's Folly) is a castle

located in Batu Gajah, Kinta
District, Perak, Malaysia. The
unfinished, ruined mansion, was
built by a Scottish planter named
William Kellie-Smith. According to
differing accounts, it was either
a gift for his wife or a home for
his son.[citation needed] Kellie's
Castle is situated beside the
Raya River (Sungai Raya), which
is a small creek to the Kinta River.

(Dataran Merdeka)

Dataran Merdeka is located in Kuala
Lumpur and is situated in front of the

Sultan Abdul Samad’s building. The
place is one of the most important
historical landmarks in the history of
Malaysia as it is the place that marked
the independence of Malaysia from

colonial rule on 31 August 1957.

Dutch Fort Pangkor
(Kota Belanda)

Dutch Fort Pangkor Island also known as Kota Belanda is the remains of
an old 17th century warehouse built by the Dutch to store tin ore. It is
located at a scenic beachside fishing village called Kampung Teluk
Gedung.

At the time the ‘fort’ was built, the Dutch had occupied Malacca and they
were extending their tentacles to other parts of the Malay Archipelago
and they had their eyes on exploiting the tin trade.
