UMK International

Greetings from UMKI again! The last three months have been a vibrant one. Moving to an
endemic phase provides a stable and more predictable environment for our university to
grow. In this phase, physical meetings become more frequent though social distancing is
still being observed. With the opening of borders among ASEAN countries, travelling for
physical meet bounces back strongly and globally.

At UMK International Office, things continue to push forward. Besides local embassy visits
to enhance internationalization, we travelled to Jakarta and Pekan Baru to promote UMK
programs. The 2 day promotion received overwhelming responses from the Indonesian stu-
dents. Thousands of students visited the 30 booths represented by both public and
private universities from Malaysia. One of the reasons for such good response was the fees

between Malaysian and Indonesian Universities. So why pay more for a local degree when
you can pay less to get an international degree.
Indonesian parents who came to our booth
believe that they could get not only better and
quality education in Malaysia but at a lower cost.
The trip to Jakarta and Pekan Baru has indeed
broadened our horizon in global marketing.

On the whole, it has been a very fruitful
second quarter for UMKI. We look forward to
more opportunities to make UMK visible
globally

Over the past two years, the pandemic has forced classes to be

cancelled and campuses to be closed across the world.
Classes were switched to online learning and physical mobility

programs and student exchange activities were not able
to carried out at all.

In UMK, to ensure students are able to
continue to experiencing intercultural diversity, online mobility
programs were held between Malaysia and China universities.
For example, UMK International has organised a few non-credit

mobility programs with China counterparts, such as the
introduction to Chinese Characters workshop by China Xiamen

University’s lecturers for UMK undergraduates who are
learning Chinese language, farming knowledge exchange webinar

by UMK experienced senior lecturer for Yunnan Agricultural
University (YNAU)’s students while calligraphy workshop by

YNAU lecturer for UMK students.

As the Regional Representative for Indochina countries,

I have the responsibility to organize mobility programs for UMK
in order to provide students with the opportunity to learn and
explore intercultural diversity. Before the Covid-19 pandemic,

I had the experience conducting non-credited cultural exchange
mobility program physically with university in Thailand.
However, during

the pandemic, physical travelling was not possible, thus I sought
to organize virtual mobility program with Thammasat University

in Thailand. Though conducted virtually, the experience was
interesting and valuable to students. As for 2022, hybrid mobility

programs are expected and I am looking forward to more
cultural exchange activities among Indochina Universities.

Hi Everyone,
Firstly, I am very honored and proud to be a student of
UMK. UMK has a strong academic atmosphere and
innovative educational philosophy. UMK does not only
has abundant field of studies, but also carries out
wonderful extracurricular activities.
In UMK Virtual International Day 2021, I won the “Best Student Performance
Award” and the first place in the “UMK Tik Tok Contest”. In addition, the
philosophy adopted by UMK which is “Entrepreneurship is our thrust “ prompted
me to set up a company for studying abroad. Starting my own business, really
made me gain a lot, and even changed my life.
Hence, I am very grateful to UMK for giving me this opportunity to learn
creatively and practically. Lastly, I would like to thank my supervisor, every staff
in the International Office and Centre of Postgraduate for their constant
assistance. I hope that all the students who study in UMK will succeed in their
studies and have a bright future!
