Welcome to UMKI first issue! We are very excited to launch this bulletin which will inform
and inspire you on a quarterly basis with all information about UMK international student
recruitment and promotion, mobility activities, international relations, international
student visa and support.
I am proud that this office has taken the initiative to publish the collective information of
UMK international engagements and through this platform, we seek to share and develop a
broader cultural understanding and a more complete view of the world around us with our
fellow students, academics and UMK community at large.

meeting on mobility program at Vignan University, Guntur, India. The program was
represented by Dr Mohammed Aurifullah, Regional Representative (India) and was
also attended by the chairman of Vignan Group Institutions, L. Rathaiah.
13 Jan - Promotional Visit to Vikrama
Simhapuri University, Nellore, India.

14 Jan - Representative of UMK International visited
the campus of Annamacharya Institute of
Technology and Science (AITS), Rajampet.
Our team visited the teaching and research
laboratories in AITS. The meeting was
participated by Mr. Abhishek, Executive Director and
Dr. SMV Narayana, Principal. Discussion on teaching
and research works carried out in Malaysia and
expressing the desire of having an MOU with AITS in
future. Besides, Dr. Malli karjuna, Dean, Dr. B. Bala Nagendra Prasad, Head,
Humanities and Sciences, Dr. Sadak Basha and Heads and faculty members of the
institute also participated in the event.

to the High Commission of the Republic of
Ghana involving the Acting High
Commissioner of the Republic of Ghana,
Ama Boahemaa Dwomoh to provide
opportunities for greater cooperation
in the areas of student mobility, research and teaching and learning (T&L).

16 Mar - Vice Chancellor of Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK), Prof. Dr. Razli Che
Razak paid a courtesy visit to the Embassy of Finland. During the visit, a special
discussion involved the Ambassador of Finland, His Excellency Sami Rafael Leino
in which to further enhance bilateral relations especially in related fields.
Also present, the Director of UMK International, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ng Siew Foen,
UMKI Deputy Director, Mr. Mohammad Affiq Kamarul Azlan, UMK Regional
Representative, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Abdul-Azeez Okene and Dr. Mohammed
Aurifullah.

17 Mar - The Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic and International) Prof. Dr Nik
Maheran Binti Nik Mohamad and the UMK International Team paid an official
courtesy visit to the South African High Commission where she met with the High
Commissioner Mr Malcomson, the First Secretary (Political) Ms Mbisi and the Third
Secretary (Political - Charged with Education) Ms Legodi.
Disucssion spanned across collaborations on joint webinars, UMK access to South
African academic, entrepreneurial and industrial markets.
The meeting opened up tangible platforms for contin-
uous engagements with South Africa through the High
Commission. Assoc. Prof. Dr Ng Siew Foen (Director,
UMK International), Mr Affiq Kamaraul Azlan (Deputy
Director, UMK International), Assoc. Prof. Dr Ibrahim Ab-
dul-Azeez Okene @barhama_aa (Regional Representa-
tive for Africa) and Dr Mohammad Aurifullah (Region-
al Representative for South Asia) were the team from
UMK International.
17 Mar - The Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic and International) Prof. Dr Nik
Maheran Binti Nik Mohamad and the UMK International team paid an official
courtesy visit to the High Commission for the Islamic Republic of Pakistan where
she met with the High Commissioner Mdm Amna Baloch, the First Trad Secretary
Mr Shafqah and the Education Secretary Mr Ghulam.

Discussions spanned across staff and student mobilities, MSGEB DIGIT package,
EduTourism, establishment of online meet-ups with Pakistani universities for
future collaborations, UMK access to Pakistani academic, entrepreneurial and
industrial markets.
UMK expects to host the High Commissioner in Kota Bharu soon. Assoc. Prof. Dr

STUDENT’S WELFARE
15 Mar - Welcoming new UMK international
students from Senegal at the airports today. All
the 6 students were sent to their campus in
Bachok and Jeli afterwards with the assistance
from the Deputy Director of UMKI, Regional
Representative of Africa, UMK staff and Student’s
Representatives (MPP).
25 Mar - Welcoming UMK’s first batch of undergraduate students from China, Lin
Xue Song (from Qingdao) and Zhang Xue Jia (from Hebei). They will be studying in
the Faculty of Hospitality, Tourism and Wellness (FHPK), UMK.
Their arrival was welcomed by UMK International Office’s Regional
Representative of China and Mongolia, Dr Julia Tan Yin Yin, two UMK Student
Representatives (Majlis Perwakilan Pelajar UMK), Hazikh Daniel Bin Abdul Halim
and Muhammad Amirul Shauqat Bin Azaha and also the Committee member of
UMK Mandarin Language Club, Dominic Lim Yi Wei at the Sultan Ismail Petra
airport.

Dr. Julia Tan Yin Yin

Dr. Julia Tan was graduated in 2005 from University Malaya, Kuala
Lumpur, majoring in Chinese Studies and minoring in International
Relations, then continued master studies in the same university
and graduated in 2011. She joined UMK in 2009, served in Faculty of
Language Studies and Human Development, then obtained Chinese
Government Scholarship, to pursue her doctoral studies in
communications (advertising) at Xiamen University, China.
Currently, she is holding university post as a Regional
Representative of China and Mongolia in the international office of
Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMKI), since February 2021. She is also
UMK Mandarin Club Advisor since 2015.
She has published 3 books, 3 book chapters and a number of local
and international journals, beside supervising 3 PhDs and 3 MA
international students. She has been significantly contributing in the Chinese
students recruitment, university collaboration between China and Malaysia for
example Xiamen University, Yunnan Agricultural University, Yunnan Arts
University and Hubei University of Technology. She has also successfully
organized a number of events in collaboration with those institutions like
students mobility, invited academic speakers, international conferences as well
as collaborative research (matching grant) and international publications.

SOUTH ASIA
Dr. Mohammed Aurifullah

Graduated in 2007 from Sri Venkateswara University, India and
continued postdoctoral studies at Indian Institute of Science
(IISc), Bangalore (2007-2010) and University of Calgary,
Canada (2010-2011). Currently, he is a Regional Representative
for South Asia at Universiti Malaysia Kelantan, Malaysia (Since
Jan 2012). He is actively working and connecting UMK with the
counties like India, Maldives, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan,
Nepal, Pakistan, and Mauritius.
On the other hand, Arifullah is a Senior Lecturer at Faculty of
Agrobased Industry (FIAT). He has more than 18 Years of
teaching and research experience. He has supervised 5 PhDs and
4 MSc. He has successfully completed 5 different projects with
full research grants and currently handling 3 research ongoing
grants (total amount of RM499,400.00). He has published about
60 research articles in reputed journals and 10 book chapters. He
has 50 conference presentations and seminars in which he has been a keynote
and invited speaker. He has been significantly contributing in universities
collaboration between India – Malaysia for example: SVU, YVU, ANU, VSU SPMVV.
He organized many events in collaboration with those institutions like, student
and staff mobility, invited speaker, international conferences as well as
collaborative research (matching grant) and publications.
He received many honours and awards which include the Best Research Scholar
Award – 2004; Junior Scientist of the Year Award – 2005; Young Scientist Award
– 2013; APC Award – 2013 and Stanford Who’s Who Member Award – 2012. He is
the member of scientific societies like, The Indian Botanical Society, Society
for Plant Biochemistry and Biotechnology and Society of Biological Chemists.
He serves as Editoral member and reviewer for several journals. His innovations
have been well recognized with Gold and Siver medals in national and
international expos namely, MTE, ITEX and PECIPTA. He owned 2 patents for his
innovations: Nano Biofuel and Wound healing products.

Greeting from UMK, Welcome everyone to Universiti
Malaysia Kelantan. I am Dr. Kanit Sripaoraya, Senior Lecturer of
Faculty of Creative Technology and Heritage. I have joined UMK
International (UMKI) as a Regional Representative for Indochina
regions to promote UMK for students’ recruitment and academic
collaborations since 2020 until now.
To introduce myself to you, I am a lecturer in Performing
Arts Field, Department of Heritage Studies (2015). My field of
interest is about performing arts and cultures, especially in
ASEAN countries. I coordinate the subjects of Dance studies,
Performing Art Studies, Introduction of Cultural Heritage
Studies, Acting and Seminar on Current Issue in Heritages. Apart
from teaching, I had conducted the student exchange mobility
programs, both inbound and outbound to explore the
international experience to students. I have also contributed the knowledge
sharing, specifically for dance performance to community and university
across the country.
As a Regional Representative, I like to introduce you to get to know my UMK.
UMK is the 19th Public university, located at Kelantan state Malaysia, 50
kilometres away from Sungai Golok province, Thailand. UMK is the place that
you can enjoy the multicultural moods where people live and interact
harmoniously. UMK is the place where you can further your study
academically with affordable cost of living. If you like to know more about us,
