introdution to the news my copy

Your Introduction to The News post should focus, briefly, on the basics and key conventions of a news broadcast. Include clips and images where relevant. Focus on clear and concise information and examples, rather than a large word count. Use the boxes below to make notes that you will then type up. Part 1 (using the news broadcast you have watched) – put the link here: Watch a news broadcast and state which one you watched, e.g., Look East Monday 18th March 6pm. The news broadcast I watched was ITV Anglia 14/09/2018 What stories were covered and in what order were they shown? HMP Hoesley bay open prison, Goerge freeman, special needs school, beach clean and boat show. What happens in the starting sequence and why do you think the visuals and audio have been used? At the start of the broadcast there's images of wind turbines and the sea this is things that represent east Anglia, there were also coordinates or places in east Anglia. Part 2 (using a story from the broadcast you have found) What was this story about and what was the structure of the report (lead in, main content, final comments)? The story's structure started by ITV Anglia reported on what's happened, the main comments were by the local giving their points of view on the issue and the final comments were showing the outcome of the publics anger with the prison. Who is involved in the story? In this first story ITV interviews the locals to get their opinion on paedophiles. getting put in an open Prision in their town. How are the people in the story represented? The people are represented as victims. How did you feel about the people in the news story? Why? Use the following terms where relevant: accuracy; balance; impartiality; objectivity; subjectivity; opinion; bias; access & privacy I felt they reported the story accurately, the story is bias, but the issue there covering was about letting sex offenders in an open prison so being bias on not wanting them there is a fair point. To summarise I feel like the people were reported as brave for speaking out for something that is wrong. Was the news story narrativized? i.e., was there a construction of a narrative to help the audience follow the news event. The news story was notarized by a reporter that was also interviewing the locals about their views of the prison. I felt that the narrator helped the viewer (me) understand the problem the locals have.

Part 3 News Ordering - 'What Makes the News'? (research) What is meant by the term news ordering? News ordering means how the story is ordered. Normally the order will start with something bad that’s happened, then by the end of the broadcast there could be a lighter even happier story. What is the term given to the list of stories that will likely appear on the broadcast? Prospect list Which story is likely to be shown first and how / why is it selected? Bad news or sad news is normally at the start of the broadcast, unfortunately sad news gets more clicks. Why is the ability to think and act quickly important in news? Acting quickly is important when working in the news because news companies want to be the first one to cover an event or story. It's an achievement If a news company does report on the news first. What is meant by the term 'slow news day'? A day with little to no news to report on. What is the final story often called and what is its function? The final story is normally called a kicker and it’s a happy story to end thew show. What is meant by the term 'news values' and which G & R wrote about them? A new value is a criterion that influence the selection and presentation of events as published news. What is actuality footage and stock 0footage and why are they used? Actual footage is used to show what happened or if something is live. Stock footage is normally used when there is not enough money or time to produce their own footage.
