FOUR DOORS
HIGHLIGHTS
During the 2020-2021 school year, our Four
Doors to Learning program continued to
provide all students the opportunity to develop
the skills required for lifelong learning. Our
outstanding faculty provided a nurturing
environment in which each student is known,
appreciated, and supported.
The unusual times of the 2020-2021 school year presented us with some
unique learning opportunities. We continued to build upon our strong
foundation in numerous ways at a pace that was impressive. Our strong
history in innovation prepared us well to pivot from traditional learning
experiences to those that are truly new - to all of us - students, faculty,
and parents. Our ability to remain nimble and positive helped us prepare
for this moment - a school year truly like no other.
I’m pleased to share some Four Doors To Learning Highlights from the
2020-2021 School Year.

The following day she arrived at school with cash from her allowance

FINANCIALS From The KCS Treasurer
Allen Church, Treasurer Let me start my report by saying I hope this finds
you and your family healthy and safe, and that you
were able to find some respite this past summer
from the stresses and challenges of the pandemic.
The school posted an operating loss for fiscal 2021, the result of decisions
made to confront and overcome unique challenges posed by the pandemic
and the acquisition of a site upon which to build our Senior School.
Significant investments were made in health and safety measures including
cleaning and facilities maintenance, the hiring of additional personnel to staff
our cohort structure, and other initiatives to ensure the health and safety of
our students and our personnel, whether at home or in class. Our priorities
remained focused on providing a diverse and engaging learning experience
despite the restrictions imposed by pandemic protocols.
While continuing to focus on the junior school operations, our long-term vision
of acquiring a site for our Senior School became a reality when we closed the
acquisition of our property on Lakeshore Blvd at the foot of Parklawn. The
acquisition was financed from strong cash reserves together with financial
support from both our bankers and our community. The carrying costs of the
property, which contributed to the operating loss, have been factored into the
financial models that support this strategic vision.
Completing the construction and opening the doors of the Senior Campus
will require financial support from our community. Several initiatives were
launched during the year including an innovative community bond campaign
accompanied by a traditional capital campaign. I thank all those who have
already supported this strategic vision and encourage those of you who
can, to support this critical initiative in the manner that fits your individual
circumstances.
I want to thank the members of the KCS Finance Committee, a group of
astute and selfless individuals who generously gave of their time for the extra
meetings and consultations required to get to this point in securing our Senior
Campus.
Finally, I want to thank you, our Community, for your relentless optimism and
support remains the foundation on which KCS continues to build.
