The Grade 10 students finally had an TRIM LINE TRIM LINE
DISK opportunity to work on their passion
Mr Theisen: projects. The three projects were focused on
'Shusei's mentor' three topics: the process of writing a short
story, scientific research about fear, and a
performer's reflection of life on the stage
and how the stage is an outlet of expression.
The three students invested significant time
in their research and making of their final
products. With the help of their supervisors,
each student made a report about their
process and product, and presented their
process during this long project to the rest of
the secondary students. It was a perfect
chance for the Grade 10 students to show
their friends and peers what they're
passionate about outside of the classroom.

The 2017-2018 PYP Exhibition was a huge
success! Grade 5 students started by sharing
some highlights about the planning process and
the amount of time they spent thinking and
organizing for the event. These were behind-the-
scenes glimpses into how much work actually
goes into this massive project. Next, students
delivered a memorable artistic performance that
combined peaceful music and relaxing
movements. Then, students asked participants to
get involved and learn with them by performing
some TaiGi in a peaceful outdoor setting. Next,
each student showcased their research and
findings by delivering a fact-based presentation to
inform others of a health issue present in the
world today and the action they took as a result of
this issue. Finally, students invited participants to
an interactive area they designed and created to
allow the audience to learn solutions and
strategies that might help overcome certain health
challenges. The room looked amazing and the
feedback from everyone was positive. Great work
year 5 students on a memorable exhibition!

CAS stands for Creativity, Activity, and Service. It
is a mandatory core component that comes with the
IBDP. CAS reminds us that academic life is not the
only thing to worry about, and there are many more
things to do in life. CAS gives us opportunities that
we never would've dreamed of!
Here are several examples of what we do for CAS:
Creativity: Photography, video editing, pencil
drawing, and learning to play a musical instrument
for the first time
Activity: Yoga, badminton, and club activities such
as after school running club
Service: Making the yearbook, collecting trash
from the Kizugawa roads, and Student Organization
Committee (student governance).
We also have the opportunity to interact with the
children from the support school.

In electives, teachers provide students with three different activities to choose from each term, and the students
can enjoy themselves in the elective they choose to be in. All of this year's electives had their own unique perks

2017-18 at DISK

DISK 2017-2018 was full of fun events where students were able
to cooperate and compete against each other and tighten their
bond. We had events such as the Halloween party, the Christmas
party, visit to Tatara campus, and a variety of other wonderful
events. However, we also had to say our farewells to some of our
students and teachers alike as they had to leave DISK. Even
then, this year’s DISK was full of laughter and joy with a few
tears along the way, and we can’t wait for another year at DISK!
