Project Supervisor

NORUL FAZLINA BINTI KHASHIM
SYNOPSIS

The name of the building is Yulin Interpretive Centre. Yulin Interpretive Centre is a place which
represents the cultural heritage in that place. This project built for people to experience and gain a lot of
knowledge more about the culture there. The site location is at Cameron Valley 2, Cameron Highland,
Pahang. Objectives of this project are to provide the opportunity for visitors to interpret and educate
information on plantation developing and the history of nature. This site project is 1000 – 1200sqm. This
Visitor Interpretive Centre has designed with space for a visitor to see all about tea plantation and
processing. Most of the building in Cameron Highland applied Tudor Architecture in their construction. As
a Visitor Interpretive Centre itself represent the cultural heritage, my building applies either one or more
characteristics of Tudor Architecture style in my building which one of it is using a large group of window
and door. The idea inspired by the character of the chosen site itself amount, full with nature on its
surrounding. The idea is to design a building that can connect people and the surrounding environment,
such as tea plantations near the location. Many openings use in the interior design of this building. In
addition, open floor plans are used and minimize the use of small enclosed rooms such as private
offices. The open layout design reflects the removal of barriers such as walls and doors that traditionally
separate different functional areas, such as combining a kitchen, living room, into one large space. The
cantilever element came cause of the windy environment. It is because good weather can strengthen
the structure of the building. The building used modern materials such as steel, glass, concrete, and
wood. The strength of this building made built with the material of using timber for the sun shading
device to control the trace of the sun to enter the building.

AZLAN BIN AYOB

SYNOPSIS

The name of the building is Highland Interpretive Centre. Highland is inspired by the name of Cameron Highland itself and
I am focusing a mountain as my design concept. Visitor Interpretive Centre is a place which represent the cultural heritage
in that area. It is build for people to experience and gain a lot of knowledge about their culture. The site location is at
Cameron Valley 2, Cameron Highland, Pahang. It is located at the main road in between Tanah Rata and Ringlet. It is
highly potential to success in a short period since many of tourists will pass by. Based on the site synthesis, most of the
building in Cameron Highland applied Tudor Architecture in their design. As a Visitor Interpretive Centre itself, it represent
the cultural heritage. I would apply either one or more characteristics of Tudor Architecture in my building which one of it is
a large group of window and door. The idea is inspired by the character of the chosen site itself, which is surrounded by a
mount and full of element of natures. The idea is to design a building that can make us feel as if we are in top of a
mountain and to create the connection between human and the surrounding environments such as the existing tea
plantation near the site, that will be enhance to be a recreation spaces for public to interact and socialize with, and the
recreation spaces that will be shared with the building user. The nature in it’s site surrounding inspired the design to
creating more public space by providing an accessible roof garden. The total floor area of Highland Interpretive Centre is
1025.23 sqm. The project required us as a designer to provide 3-4 special space in it. The first special space is an
Observation Deck which located at the Ground Floor (Connected from Highland Café) and Second Floor (connected from
the Highland Rooftop Garden). Skylight will be used as it’s floor to make us feel as if we are at the top of a mount. As same
as the function of the floating walkway on each floor, it is build for people to feel as if they are in a high place (Mountain).
Next is Highland Love Treasure located at the Ground Floor, all tourists can scribble their messages of love and more on
the locks then affix it at the railing grill as a symbolic of love and they’ve been there before. Thirdly, Highland Mini Market
that is also located at the Ground Floor besides The Highland Love Treasure. Based on Human and Culture Site
Synthesis, Kea Farm Market, Brinchang is one of the tourist attraction. It’s central feature is a farmers' market along the
main road and open daily, all the traders set up retail stalls from morning till evening which was a great place to seize
bargains on fresh crops including strawberries, corn, greens and fruits. Other local products available at the market include
fashion apparel, souvenirs, ornamental plants, packaged food and flowers. But, Highland Mini Market will only sell the
fresh vegetations while all the souvenirs and fashion apparel will be sell in Highland Souvenir Shop. In addition, an outdoor
stall will also placed on in front and besides of Highland Mini Market. The final special space is Highland Rooftop Garden
that is located at the Second Floor. Highland Rooftop Garden will be filled with various types of vegetation which have in
Cameron Highland such as, Strawberries, Cactus and many more. Deck will be used as the material of the floating
walkway floor. Most of the spaces will be using railing and glass wall as it’s main concept is Mount, where all the spaces
can make us feel as if we are interact and socialize with the nature surrounding. Moreover, the green element that will be
applied in Highland Interpretive Centre is Rainwater Harvesting and Natural Ventilation. Natural Ventilation being used to
appreciate the site climate where all the tourists can feel the light and cool air of Cameron Highland.
