Welcome, dear friends!

California, known as “The Golden State”, is famous around the world for its dazzling beauty, diverse
culture, limitless scenic destinations and warm hospitality.

El Dorado County also shines with these attributes and is fondly referred to as “The Jewel of the
Motherlode”. And for good reason: we proudly host the site of gold discovery in Coloma, California –
now the site of Marshall Gold Discovery State Park.

Over the past few years, our Executive Committee, local leaders, organizing team and over 50 dedicated
volunteer chairpersons, together with our amazing community, have worked with enormous enthusiasm to
develop El Dorado County Gold Week and host the 2016 World Gold Panning Championships.

We invite you to discover our beautiful county, its many attractions, enjoy visits to our local businesses
and shops, restaurants and galleries which, together with our excellent lodging accommodations, will make
you feel “at home away from home” and become part of our family!

As you explore El Dorado County, you will feel the positive energy that has been created around this event.
We hope it will bless your time here and leave a mark on your heart that reminds you that you can always
return to your California home: El Dorado County!

A hearty welcome to you all!

El Dorado County District III Supervisor, Brian Veerkamp

WGPA President’s Message

Dear goldpanners, organizers, volunteers and citizens of El Dorado
County, who welcome our World Gold Panning Association
members, family and friends to your wonderful and glittering corner
of the World! A real treasure for gold panning enthusiasts like us!
I am personally excited to be here, at the place where the California
Gold Rush began!

Who knows the real story behind the historic event that took place
back in 1848, and the meaning of the term “forty-niners”? All of us,
I can bet. California, the American River, El Dorado and Marshall are
names we are all familiar with. However, we will get to know them as
truth and reality, simply by visiting historic El Dorado County during
El Dorado Gold Week 2016!

This year has been amazing for the World Gold Panning Association
and our main events: in July we were in Switzerland to attend the
10th European Gold Panning Championships in the city of Burgdorf.
This is where Johann Augustus Sutter was living and working before
he moved to California!

Now we have this opportunity to stand on the very ground that
Johann’s mill foreman, James W. Marshall, discovered the first gold
nugget that started the world renown Gold Rush of 1849, and attend
the 40th World Gold Panning Championships. What an amazing
connection!

Many of us were here in 1998, too. I am pleased to say that after so
long, the U.S. delegation has once again won the right to host the
year’s main event for us goldpanners.

Goldpanners from all over the World, are you happy to participate in
this 2016 Gold Rush? I trust that you are! As is tradition, the WGPA
President wishes all the best to the participants and organizers. As
a goldpanner myself, I would also like to wish all of you a golden
week, a special time and a gold pan full of moments to remember for
another 168 years!

Sincerely,

Arturo Ramella Bagneri, President
