PERTEMUAN II LKPD 3 A. Instruction: Refresh your knowledge by doing this activity on your smartphone! ❖ Link Soal Wordwall: https://wordwall.net/id/resource/54599416 Scan QR B. Instruction: Read the following text. Identify the social function, the structure and language features by filling in the form below! Mobile Phone A mobile phone (also known as a wireless phone, or cellular telephone) is a very small portable radio telephone. The mobile phone can be used to communicate over long distances without wires. It works by communicating with a nearby base station (also called a “cell site”) which connects it to the main phone network. As the mobile phone moves around, if the mobile phone gets too far away from the cell it is connected to, that cell sends a message to another cell to tell the new cell to take over the call. This is called a “hand off.” and the call continues with the new cell the phone is connected to. The hand-off is done so well and carefully that the user will usually never even know that the call was transferred to another cell. As mobile phones became more popular, they began to cost less money, and more people could afford them. Monthly plans became available for rates as low as US$30 or US$40 a month. Cell phones have become so cheap to own that they have mostly replaced pay phones and phone booths except for urban areas with many people.

It is reported that plasma TV has lower black room, (unilluminated pasts), than LCD screen. The plasma TV consumes power differently for different scenes. Bright scenes consume more power than darker ones. The plasma that illuminates the screen might reach a temperature of 1200° C. When the screen cracks, the temperatures of the plasma will directly decrease, to avoid fire and human injury. Normally, the plasma TV may consume 400 watts for a 30 inches screen and 310 watts for a 50 inch. The lifetime of the plasma TV might reach 100.000 hours or 27 years if used 10 hours per day. It is commonly used for finding keyholes, supplementing dark-adapted vision, or helping you find your way when walking in the dark. The electric torch was invented in 1902 by Conrad Hubert, who was also known as Akiba Horowitz. A typical flashlight consists of a light bulb mounted in a reflector with a transparent cover to protect the light source and reflector, a battery, and a switch. These are supported and protected by a plastic case. The central part of a torch is the battery. The bottom of the bulb rests on the positive terminal of the battery. The zinc case of the battery forms the negative terminal The negative terminal of the battery is connected to the switch by a brass strip. Another brass strip runs from the switch to the metal case of the bulb. The bulb contains a very thin wire called a filament. The filament, made of a tungsten alloy, is enclosed in a vacuum. The filament rests on two glass columns. Two wires pass through the columns and the whole assembly is enclosed in a thin glass envelope.

It is very useful because it helps people clean dishes and eating-utensils. In 1887, Josephine Cochrane invented the first dishwasher. She made the machine because her servants often broke her lovely ceramic dishes. Since then dishwashers have continuously improved until today. Modern dishwashers are made of stainless steel and consist of a front drawing-door for loading dishes, a wire rack for the dirty crockery, a rotating sprayer and a drying element. The standard width and depth is 60 cm or 24 inches in Europe and in the US. Dishwashers clean the dirt from the dishes by spraying hot water, typically between 55 and 75° C. The water is mixed with detergent. Then the mixture is pumped by rotating spray arms which spray it onto the dishes. When the washing process finishes, the water is drained and more hot water is pumped in for a rinsing process. The final process is to heat the dishes to dry them. The whole process needs 15 to 20 minutes.

Solar Panels Solar panels, also known as photovoltaic (PV) panels, are devices that convert sunlight into electricity. They are made up of multiple solar cells that are connected together and are typically installed on rooftops or in open fields to capture as much sunlight as possible. Solar panels are becoming increasingly popular as a renewable energy source due to their ability to produce clean energy and reduce dependence on non-renewable sources like fossil fuels. Solar panels work by capturing the energy from sunlight and converting it into direct current (DC) electricity. This electricity is then passed through an inverter, which converts it into alternating current (AC) electricity that can be used to power homes and businesses. Solar panels are a reliable and low-maintenance energy source that can provide electricity for many years with minimal upkeep.
