James Velasco
James is both a Certified Mediator and principal of The Velasco Firm
LLC. He maintains membership in the American Bar Association,
Section of Dispute Resolution and the Association for Conflict
Resolution, Chicago chapter.
James Velasco has been both an educator for over 11 years and a
trial attorney for more than 33 years.
James is both a Court Certified Mediator for the Court-Annexed
Major Case Civil Mediation Program of Cook County and a Court
Certified Mediator for the Chancery Division’s Mediation Program of
Cook County.
In his thirty plus years as a lawyer, James has headed litigation firms concentrating their
practice in family law, business law and tort law. His experience, in both mediation and
litigation, is vast and includes divorce, commercial disputes, contract disputes, general tort,
fraud, deceptive practices, medical malpractice, products liability, contract reformation, breach
of contract, wrongful termination, construction litigation, complex litigation, mass tort litigation
and class action arbitration.
Throughout the current decade, James has honed his skills in helping to resolve complex
business controversies involving corporate structuring and governance, succession issues, real
estate problems, international contract disagreements, international business torts, partnership
disputes, and insurance uncertainties.
He has been a member of the American Bar Association, American Trial Lawyers Association,
the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, the Chicago Bar Association and the Illinois State Bar
Association.
James enjoys traveling, reading, squash, photography, biking to work daily and spending time
with his wife and daughter.
Brittany Roebke
Brittany Roebke is an attorney at The Velasco Firm LLC. Brittany
received her undergraduate degree from Truman State University
and her Juris Doctorate from Chicago-Kent College of Law.
Brittany was awarded the President’s Scholarship from Truman State,
an academic based scholarship that covered the full cost of her
undergraduate tuition. She was also awarded a full tuition
scholarship from Chicago-Kent.
During her time in law school, Brittany became a Center for Conflict
Resolution Certified Mediator. She also worked as an extern for the
Honorable Michael Panter in Parentage and Child Support Court and
as a clerk and legal researcher at a family law firm. During law school, Brittany also received
the CALI “Excellence for the Future Award” in Pre-Trial Litigation.
Since becoming a lawyer, Brittany has successfully practiced in the court, arbitration and
mediation setting. .Brittany has negotiated multiple settlements for her clients and
participated in several trials on matters ranging from child custody issues and property
distribution to contract disputes.
Michael Perlstein
Michael Perlstein has been engaged in the practice of law for over 32
years representing entrepreneurial clients in a wide range of real
estate, corporate, bankruptcy and estate matters. In addition,
Michael has been a real estate developer, a real estate investor and a
private business owner. Michael has worked with clients on a variety
of real estate issues including the buying and selling of real property,
varied contract negotiations, and complex financial term negotiation.
Michael has a demonstrated ability to manage multiple issues that
are unique to every deal, thereby creating a “Win-Win” scenario for
all parties. Michael’s problem solving and deal making skills, which
he has developed over the years, reinforce The Velasco Firm’s
talents.
