or a federal district of the country . The pattern of the stars are based on the
pattern of the stars that were found in Brazil's sky on the morning day that
independence was declared. The green stands for Brazil's forests and the yellow
diamond for its mineral resources. The motto on the flag, Ordem E Progresso,
translates to "Order and Progress."
