Assalamualaikum w.b.t. and warmest greeting.

All praise to Allah S.W.T for His abundant grace, the Commerce
Innovation Showcase 5 (COINS 5) was organised successfully. I
commend the organiser of COINS 5, under the Head of the
Department of Commerce, on your diligent efforts to ensure that
the program runs smoothly.

Innovation today has become a new global benchmark. It demands
creative capabilities that are new, unique, and useful and serve as a
catalyst for community well-being. Organising such competitions
demonstrate high levels of thinking, creativity, and innovation
among our students. I sincerely hope that these capabilities will
continue to be cultivated and become a norm in day-to-day activities.

I believe COINS 5 is the platform to encourage everyone in Commerce Department to give and
share creative ideas and make their day-to-day tasks more efficient and effective. Besides, COINS
5 is a vital strategy in fostering a culture of innovation among the polytechnic students to prepare
them with a more significant role in innovative education.

Through this impactful program, I hope that we will be able to lift the prestige of the Politeknik
Kota Kinabalu students, be in line with other higher institutions, and work together to achieve the
government's desire for TVET education in Malaysia.

First and foremost, my heartiest congratulations to the Head of
Commerce Department and the staff, especially to the organising
committee, for successfully hosting COINS 5, Session 1:
2021/2022.
In organising this exciting exhibition and competition, a remarkable
effort has been put forward to nurture a high-skilled and creative-
oriented young generation. The innovations demonstrated here can
bring a multitude of advancements in process efficiency, product
quality, continuous improvement on the product, and create new,
never-before-seen products.
Furthermore, COINS 5 also builds upon a culture of creativity and innovation. Students with high
intelligence and strong core values will possess the capability to compete globally. The fundamental
aims of COINS 5 are to enhance student communication skills, cultivate strong team spirit, good
leadership skills, and the student’s ability to think creatively and critically.
Lastly, let us hope that this program can provide a platform for researchers and innovators to
contribute ideas and play a role in cultivating research and technology.

Alhamdulillah, to the greatest of gratitude of Allah S.W.T for His
Grace, Commerce Department, Politeknik Kota Kinabalu has
successfully conducted the Innovation Showcase 5 (COINS 5). On
behalf of the Commerce Department, I would like to express our
gratitude to our respected Director of Politeknik Kota Kinabalu,
Ts. Zainab Binti Othman, for officiating COINS 5.

COINS 5 is part of Commerce Department development efforts for raising the learning
effectiveness and the students' ability to create high-quality end products through student potential
skills and performance. This program enables the Commerce Department to identify high-quality
and patentable end products. Finally, this program helps promote students' creative work and
receives the recognition and appreciation the students genuinely deserve.

I would like to thank all the organising committees, project supervisors, and participants for their
unwavering commitment and cooperation to ensure this event went smoothly.

May COINS 5 be a turning point in producing young people capable of enhancing innovations
that benefit religion, society, and the nation.

All praise to ALLAH S.W.T the Almighty, for we can host again
Commerce Innovation Showcase (COINS), the fifth series this
semester. Since the coronavirus outbreak (Covid-19), the world
seems to be put mainly on a halt, affecting the organisation of
programs and activities in educational institutions. There are
many constraints to physically implementing students’ programs,
yet we strive to find other alternatives to make things happen.
Therefore, we proceed to the virtual Commerce Innovation
Showcase 5 (COINS 5).

A little information on COINS; this is a semi-annual event organised by Jabatan Perdagangan,
Politeknik Kota Kinabalu with the ultimate objective to encourage creativity and innovative skills
among students. We hope students can find this event as a platform to express the art of presenting
a research and project paper. Besides, we also believe this program is fundamental in moulding
some good data analysis skills among the students.

Immense appreciation to all the lecturers for their time and wade through to make this program
functioning well. A debt of gratitude to everyone's efforts to our success. Thank the Head of
Commerce Department, Puan Farhana Binti Sabidin, for her solid advice and feedback, and to all
efficient committee members for their perpetual commitment and contributions. Most profound
thanks to the Director of Politeknik Kota Kinabalu, Ts. Zainab Binti Othman, and Deputy
Director (Academic) of Politeknik Kota Kinabalu, Puan Norhanom Binti Awang, for the constant
support and time.

I hope that COINS will continue to improve over time to serve as the best platform for students

Commerce Innovation Showcase 5 (COINS 5)

COMMERCE INNOVATION SHOWCASE (COINS), is one of the academic programs
organised by the Commerce Department, Polytechnic Kota Kinabalu, conducted every semester.
COINS program has been successfully implemented for four series now, of which the third and
fourth series run online. The program seeks to highlight innovative and entrepreneurship talent
among Commerce students. Since then, COINS has been the best platform for students to get
exposure and show their ability to explore, create, and innovate.

2021 has been an eventful year for everyone. The virtual format has received overwhelming
support from various parties. Despite the challenges faced due to movement restrictions, the
excellent teamwork among dedicated lecturers has made COINS successful.

GOALS
COINS aims to fulfil presentation evaluation requirements for DPB50163 Business Project
DPM50113 Marketing Plan, DPM40073 Marketing Research and DPA50173 Professional Ethics
courses. The program is a new platform that highlights the students’ attributes in innovation and
entrepreneurship through the presentation of projects which are evaluated by external juries.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES
• To achieve the course learning outcomes.
• To achieve the PLO for DPR, DLS and DAT for completion of the program.
• To create a collaboration platform with related industries for students’ project evaluations.
• To identify students' potential in innovation and entrepreneurship attribute.
