Team, I am honored to kick off Patra India's first E-newsletter.

I thought I would start with a recap of our history for those

Greetings

I believe we are in the new age of human exploration with the use of
technology for the information exchange from one end to the other.
I personally believe that the Information and communication play a
vital role in personal and organizational development. In a year
filled with challenges the idea of E-Magazine is a perfect go at the
right time. I'm confident this will bridge the communication gap
between US and India staff to know the regular eventualities. Alone
we can do so little together we can do Wonders - Wishing all the
best to Patra E-Mag.
In closing, I would like to thank the entire E-Mag team for an
outstanding job.

India - US Ambassadors

This is first of its kind program initiated
by the organization primarily to bring
down the disconnect between employees
working in India and in the United States.
The idea is to create a platform wherein
two employees, one from each country
will partner up and share the cultural,
regional and social differences among the
two nations, mostly through their
personal experience and interests, thus
making their counterparts familiar to the
lifestyle in another country.

With the successful conclusion of the first season, the second batch is ready to commence
from April with another 20 ambassadors and continues for next three months. The program is
now rolled out to other locations at Patra India making everyone a part of it, learning
diversified cultures across the country and improving the employee relations.

Vector will be Victor

-By Purneshwar Sahu, Raipur

In day to day life, we can feel that Science and Philosophy belong to two opposite
ends. But the fact is that Science itself has originated from Philosophy. Here I am
going to talk about a scientific word ‘Vector Quantity’.
We all know Wikipedia. It is an online encyclopedia where we can get information
about almost everything. It is referred to be ‘an ocean of knowledge’.
Just click on the very first searchable word (a word which appears blue) in any
Wikipedia page. New Wikipedia page will come for that word. Again, click on the very
first searchable word of this page. Keep doing this and within your 10th or 15th
search, you will be on the page of ‘Philosophy’. It proves though humans have
classified the knowledge in many streams, all knowledge ends up at ‘Philosophy’.

In science, physical quantities are classified into two groups.
First is Scalar Quantity, in which we must mention the
magnitude (quantity) only. For example, temperature (5-degree
C, 18-degree C) or Length (5 meter, 20 feet) etc. Second is Vector
Quantity, in which we must mention quantity as well as the
direction. For example, Displacement and Force. For force, we
must mention how much force applied and in which direction.
Similarly, we must mention the direction for displacement too.
This story is about Jack Daniel’s. Better yet it is about two
horses named Jack & Daniel. Jack and Daniel were in a desert
and reached a square in search of food, water and shelter. They
had three ways to lead on. Jack traveled whole day long but
ended up in the same square from where he started. He actually
traveled in each way one by one, but after traveling few
kilometers he got disappointed and came back to the square to
try the other way. Now he was faded up physically and mentally
as well.
On the other hand, Daniel chose a way and kept traveling. Before
dawn, he reached an oasis. He got food, water and shelter there.
He too got disappointed several times in his journey but had
faith in his choice. He kept leading on and got his goal. So,
friends, philosophy of life works in the same way.
We all use our energy and capability to reach our goals. But
energy and capability are scalar quantities, which have no
direction. All that is needed is the proper direction, which is a
vector quantity. Add proper direction to your energy and
capability and become a ‘Vector’. Vector will be Victor one day
friends. Like Daniel did.
We will discuss in next edition about how to choose the correct
direction and how to deal with the difficulties that we come
across in the journey.
