Here is a gist of the upcoming programs/activities by ISJS. 5-week Summer Program 5-week residential program in India from June 12 to July 16, 2023 It is a five-week advanced program designed for serious and motivated graduates, PhD students, Post Doctoral scholars, and full-time teaching-cum-research faculty members involved in religion, South Asian Religions or Studies, Languages, Anthropology, Theology, and Allied Subjects. 3-week Online Program 3-week online program from June 23 to July 13, 2023 It is a three-week online intermediate level program designed to cater to the needs of third and fourth-year undergraduate students, graduate students, degree holders, PhD candidates, professors, and faculty members in Religion, Philosophy, South Asian Studies, and Anthropology, and other related subjects (History, Art, Music, Public Health, Bio-ethics, Education, Management, etc.) who desire to learn about Jainism as a part of their higher education. For more details click here Online Program on Jainism in Hindi 10-day online program in Hindi from August 19, 2023 It is a 10-day online program on Jainism in Hindi from August 19 - August 28, 2023 which is open to all who wish to learn the principles, culture, and history of Jain tradition in Hindi. ISJS Annual Awards The Best Book Award for INR 1,00,000 or equivalent to US$ The Best Research Paper/Article Award for INR 25,000 or equivalent to US$ Annual awards for best book and best research paper ISJS proposes to institute an annual award to encourage scholarship in academic studies of Jainism to be of international standards. Two awards are proposed for the year 2023: The subject of books or research papers/articles should be related to Jainism and its applications to subjects like lifestyle, administration, interfaith dialogue, science and technology, medicine, environment, culture, pressing issues like epidemics, bioethics, judiciary, education, etc. For ISJS awards 2023, books or research papers/articles published in between 01.01.2020 to 31.12.2022 will be eligible. Bhagwan Naminath Jain Scholar Fellowship An engaging environment that encourages interaction among participants and faculty members Faculty members who are both published scholars and master educators from India and overseas Free boarding, lodging, classroom, and library facilities including local inland travel in India On successful completion, a certificate from ISJS and an American university along with credit hours will be given 8-week program for enhancing research and writing skills for Indian scholars of Jainism ISJS offers a unique and intensive residential training program for eight weeks that aims to develop a group of English-speaking Indian scholars of Jainism to make them well-equipped with research methodologies, and written and oral presentation skills to engage in academic discussions, research, and teaching of Jain philosophy and its relevance today in the global academic environment. Bhagwan Mahavira Fellowship to Study Prakrit Language for 9 months in Pune, India starting from September 1, 2023 ISJS strives hard to promote and build a cadre of serious Jain scholars. In order to achieve the same, it wishes to make the scholars well-versed in Prakrit (a language of Jain canonical literature). A 9-month program for learning intense Prakrit is offered to the participants from across the globe. In 2023-2024, it would be the fourth such program being offered. A monthly stipend is provided to selected participants during the entire course to meet the cost of boarding, lodging, study material and local travel inside India, related to this program.
