WRESTLING
Men’s wrestling has an extremely strong history of tradition and
dedication. Through success and championships, many wrestlers have
gone through DeSales and furthered their career in college. Men’s
Wrestling have won three team state championships, five regional
championships, and twenty-five individual state championships. Some of
these great wrestlers include, Jacob Vaughan(‘09), John Hiles (‘08), Daniel

Earley (‘05), Ryan Morgan (‘04), Frank Brown(03), Ryan Knapp( ‘03).
A notable player includes:

DAVID MCCLELLAND

David McClelland is the State Champion at 132 pounds and is committed to
Clarion University.

S - What was the stage recruitment process like?
D - Out of the colleges I attended in the process, it was hectic and felt stressful
at times but when I arrived at Clarion University it felt the most like home. Like

DeSales, it had an amazing family atmosphere and when I was on my visit
they suggested that they wanted to build the program around me and I never

felt as supported as I did in that moment and at Clarion.

S - What made Clarion Stand out?
D - The team atmosphere and everyone pushing each other to success. The

wrestling program is the only sport that is D1 at Clarion, which was also a
standout feature in my choice to commit there.

S - What is a goal you have set for yourself for your college career?
D - Plain and simple. NCAA Tournament Winner.

S - Is there a reason you decided to wrestle at 132?
D - I felt too small for 138 and 132 felt the best weight for me to win the state

title.

FOOTBALL

Football.
Our football program has had their fair share of extremely talented
players. Some of those players include: Billy Cain (2020), Johnathan
Thompson(2020), Quintero Quin (2019 2020), Cole Potts(2019), Joey
Velazquez(2018), Ty Van Fossen(2017), Alonzo Booth(2016). Those are
players who made first team ALL-OHIO, and there are many more. A
couple notable players include:

LUKE FICKELL
Now Cincinnati Bearcat Head coach, graduated from
DeSales in 91’. Mr. Fickell made All-Ohio for Football in 91’ and 90’.

We could talk about DeSales sports all day, considering the tradition
of dedication, perseverance, courage, and of course, winning.
Our school has 34 state championships, 84 individual state
championships, and 72 regional championships (and counting).

TRADITION NEVER GRADUATES.
